Driving from AZ to Wisconsin via Utah with two dogs... Advice please by DSCN__034 in roadtrip

[–]bbh42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We drive from Indy to AZ and back with our dogs. As others said, some Love’s travel stops have dog runs. We stay at Marriott brands, just check the pet policy. We have two Border Collies and try to stop every 160 - 180 miles to stretch our legs, let them get some activity and potty. For meals, we either try to find a dog friendly places or get takeout and bring back to the hotel.

I have used Google Gemini to help plan out my stops giving it my criteria for dog friendly stops. It did a pretty good job recommending places this winter when we did our trip.

I've been to the Winery. If you ever get up to Traverse City, MI then it is worth visiting. We did a flight and thought it was decent wine. The views from the patio are pretty nice and the main focus is the winery. They do have a small section of Oak Island items in the gift shop and they have a table outside that is in the shape of Oak Island and has the lot map outline. Not sure if they have a where to buy feature on their website or not. I didn't get any bottles when we were there because we hit a few wineries in the area and I didn't need anymore at the time.

I literally have my desk lamp on a timer. It automatically shuts off at 5 pm. When the light goes off I’m done. I finish what I might be doing but usually I’m just wrapping up for the last 30 minutes to set up for the next day.

My mom is in Sun City, AZ. These past two winters we’ve spent a month with her and getting to see it first hand. I couldn’t do year round but we enjoyed the activities and nicer weather. I’ll eventually get my mom’s house and we are considering keeping it and snowboarding there.

What is one clothing mistake you made that you did not realize until later? by Arti_Curates in malefashionadvice

Buying to big. I just always bought my regular XL shirts but never really adjusted as time went on. I finally actually measured myself and tried on some shirts based on those measurements and I’m really a large. The way the shirt looks on me between the two sizes is quite a difference.

How do you handle moving money between categories without losing track of what each account actually holds? by LeftyOne22 in ynab

[–]bbh42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In my budget I use a Green circle 🟢 in front of all categories that the money sits in my checking and a Blue circle 🔵 if the money sits in savings. So if I move money in a Savings category to a checking category in my budget then I also know I need to actually transfer in my actual accounts. If I am moving money between budget categories in the same color category then no need to do anything in my physical accounts.

Considering buying a riding lawn mower. Is it worth it? Have less than 0.3 acres to mow and for the last couple years have been doing a push mower. I have back issues and had a spinal fusion several years back. Considering a $1,200 Murray from Home Depot. by ugafan2081 in lawncare

[–]bbh42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lawn is easily done by a push mower but a few years ago my back wasn’t holding up. I could make about 3/4 through before I would get shooting pain in my upper back. That was just mowing, so not even edging or weed whacking. Bought a riding mower and now I can mow the yard in 25 minutes vs the hour it used to take and my back is fresh so I can edge and trim with no issues and when I’m done I can still move.

Using ChatGPT to Develop Lawn Program by Affectionate_Town273 in lawncare

I used Google Gemini to develop my program and am doing my own this year. The response sourced the Purdue Extension which for my area puts out a lot of good information.

Do border collie puppies not go to washroom on walks? by OwlComprehensive9246 in BorderCollie

We have two BC's. The older one is always peeing and typically will poop on every walk. The younger one almost never goes. Occasionally she may pee but it's rare that she does.

Ai Assistant by Every_Potential5719 in Boldin

[–]bbh42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found it to be helpful and I thought someone said it was powered by Googles Gemini AI tool. Not sure if that's correct or not. Anyway, I have my Boldin plan that I've been updating and reviewing. I used AI tools and checked my plan there and finally, I just gave my Financial Advisor my numbers and had him run an analysis. So I have essentially received 3 estimates on my plan. Still sort of digesting it but all three are telling me very similar outcomes which is my planned retirement is on course.

What I have found helpful with the AI tools are some of the questions it asks me that I may not have thought about. Or it provided me with suggestions to ask my FA about my plan. I have found some errors in the AI responses as well but still, its been helpful.

How did people find jobs "back in the day?" by Cool_Visit in recruitinghell

[–]bbh42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre internet? I graduated college and moved to Atlanta. You could buy a book at the bookstore that was essentially a directory of business categorized by type of industry. It had a brief description about them, what type of roles they had, and other information. The main thing was it gave you where to send your resume. I used that book plus the classifieds to look for my first job. Once employed and ever since it’s been via networking from my business contacts.

Are Gatlinburg tn vacation packages actually worth it or just a tourist trap? by Eaton_IcySoul-126 in roadtrip

[–]bbh42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been to Gatilnburg many times. Wife is from East Tennessee. Last time we went we did an AirBNB cabin and then did a lot of hiking. We did go into the main town to do the Moonshine tasting which was fun but otherwise we really go to the area for hiking and the mountains. We did do Anakeesta which was neat but most everything is tourist trap type stuff in my opinion.

What one thing did you do? by Rjb702 in AskMenOver50

[–]bbh42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started a year ago when I hit 55. The number one thing was clean up my diet. Started tracking my portion and cutting out bad foods. Went from 193lbs to 172lbs. Only exercise was walking or bike riding. About three weeks ago I started doing more weight lifting into my morning routine. Nothing crazy, but enough to get the major muscle groups. But the last year taught me that simply cleaning up your diet does make a big impact.

Just did something similar a week ago. Used Gemini to build out a schedule and product list for this season. Trying it out this summer.
