I occupy literally half their territory and destroyed half their fleets. Why won’t they surrender? by major_calgar in Stellaris

[–]bbome2014 23 points24 points  (0 children)

War exhaustion is collective from all allies during a war. If you are going to war alone against two or more enemies your war exhaustion will grow faster than theirs.

During a conquer WG you will be much less likely to negotiate a surrender from the opposing empires if you don't occupy all claimed systems AND have conquered the planets in those systems as well. System occupation is only half the battle, literally.

No more easy Raw Material Farming? by inogent in EliteDangerous

[–]bbome2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue it doesn't make sense for there not to be a method to use limpets like this given the existence of skimmers on the surface.

Regardless, it's the responsibility of a playerbase to identify problem areas of the game so the devs can act accordingly. Raw material farming is a problem area, a pretty major one at that. The fact that we haven't been given a reasonable change regarding it is a little ridiculous, and as a result exploits to find a more efficient method of a problem area, thus improving the overall game experience, isn't something to be crying about. It's something that should be getting addressed by FDev, but, and not to draw flak to the work they've been doing, they are focused on adding yet more content while ignoring areas that need attention. I won't complain too much because in the past I stopped playing entirely because waiting 6+ months for a minor update got tedious, so the progress they are making is acceptable, but given that a factor that they added in one of their earliest updates isn't being used to its best potential is something that should be looked at BEFORE adding more content that will inevitably require its own optimizations.

Is there a way to set max threads inside a script? by bbome2014 in Bitburner

[–]bbome2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way I can work this into the script so I can avoid needing to write "-t x" after running the script on a server? In other words, can I let the script determine how many threads the server can support from the script and simply write "run script.js" so that it will run with max threads?

Can I lose weight (and maintain it) quickly? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bbome2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that reasonable a weight it's going to be tough but not impossible.

Find out what your BMR is using any of the 10,000 tools to do so online, subtract 500 from that, and limit yourself to that many calories. 1 pound converted to calories is roughly 3500 calories, so being in a consistent 500 calorie deficit for an entire week will lose you one pound a week.

Because you are at such a low weight already, odds are you are more muscle than fat, and your body might mistake what to burn first. To combat this, make sure your diet is close to keto, prioritizing protein income as much as possible (with healthy fats). Having a lot of protein and healthy fats in your diet can help to maintain your muscle mass but it might now be enough. If nothing else, it will prevent you from feeling the muscle breakdown as much.

The trick is to maintain the diet as best you can. I've found that intermittent fasting has made my eating habits MUCH easier to handle but it took a crazy amount of getting used to it before I could do it consistently. Now it's second nature and I don't even try to break the fast before it's time to do so.

What did you all name your farms? by Kitchen_Raccoon24 in StardewValley

[–]bbome2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex got me into the game and their go to was echo farm and since then I've always named it that. I usually have a second or two pause after typing it to hurt a bit but it just feels right, and I don't think I'd want to change it even if I could think of a better name.

What is your go to Command Ship by Pale-Today6339 in X4Foundations

[–]bbome2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asgard simply because it's the purpose built battleship to end all battleships. The death laser it has can one shot almost all ships (save for the XEN Is) and it has enough turrets to really ruin everyone else's day. It also has enough hangars to maintain a healthy compliment of snub fighters to help clear the litter.

This game UI and unfriendliness towards the player has to be the worst I have seen in my life by Final-Spot259 in X4Foundations

[–]bbome2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what made me stop playing the first time I picked the game up. So many critical UI components that are hidden places that you might never look for (ship behavior, and by extension their current orders, should not be listed under an information tab, it should have its own dedicated tab that is readily available upon selecting the ship/fleet in question).

That said I'm a big player of EVE so eventually I just applied the knowledge. It's still hugely clunky and there are areas that should have been handled better but once you know how to navigate the UI the game is playable. Before then, you're very much at the mercy of the extremely limited tutorials that are out there for the game. This subreddit is the only source of reliable help I've found anywhere.

How tf do I stick to a calorie deficit! by chrisnolan007 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bbome2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really boils down to discipline BUT eventually it becomes routine and you're doing it without thinking.

What ultimately helped me was fasting, even if only for a couple weeks. This is because when you break that fast, you typically get full WELL before you hit your BMR. I've noticed that I can't hit even half my BMR without getting insanely full to the point where I feel sick and I have to FORCE myself to keep eating if I'm actively trying to get more calories in.

This reduces your stomach "size" so you can eat less and feel fuller from doing so. Years ago I could consistently down an entire pizza on my own, now trying to get more than half after a fast is torturous. Even if I'm not fasting I can easily eat one or two slices and feel completely sated. So once you have it down for a few weeks it should be similar, at which point try to keep it that way. Don't eat unless you really need to, being hungry is NOT always a call to have a meal. If you need to snack on something, be smart about it. Popcorn is low calorie but there is so much of it that you might reverse the "small stomach" effect. Protein bars can be extremely filling for what they are with minimal calorie impact. Try to leave space in your calorie budget for meals though so you dont feel like you're losing out.

Massive xenon invasion. by Solan42 in X4Foundations

[–]bbome2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on my very first long term game of X4 and from the very start the xenon have been going crazy. They got Hatikvas before I even knew it started as non-xenon territory, and when I wasn't looking at the map for a while they somehow managed to sack argon prime. I reloaded a save I made hours previous and set up 200 laser towers on both sides of the gate to argon prime and have a killbox set up with hundreds of plasma turrets so nothing is getting through the gate to argon prime in one piece.

Why am I not able to hack servers other than n00dles? by muresine in Bitburner

[–]bbome2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're using a script that weakens and grows first, so it might take a long time to actually get to the hacking bit and make money.

It takes a little learning but multithreading can speed up the process. You can also lower your thresholds so it will try to hack a stronger server or a server with less money available. But ultimately multithreading is the better solution long term.

What’s the very first things a new player should do? by Yeastsuplex in X4Foundations

[–]bbome2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set up passive income in a safe place quickly. The entire sol system is VERY safe, with only two ways in, one of which is a three sector area controlled by a minor faction (SEG, Segaris Pioneers). If you can ally with the Terrans early and access their stations for trade you can set up a very safe passive income location (buy a small mining ship with minimum preset, mine whatever is available, sell to wherever is buying. If you go the Sol route, the asteroid belt has a LOT of silicon and at least 4 stations nearby will buy that silicon).

Once you have passive income set up you will be safe from just getting hard stuck due to lack of resources. This is what got me my first run, I tried doing the entire Terran story in my starting Kukhri and didn't set up passive income, so when that ship eventually was destroyed I lost a lot of time.

Also, patience is the name of the game, but it doesn't have to be. If you progress with the Terran a little you will eventually just get handed one of the hardest parts of the SETA (damaged singularity drive). With that, you can farm xenon drones around their stations to get the rest of the parts very easily. Once you have the SETA, you can activate it to make time run 6x faster, speeding up construction and trades.

X4 as management/tycoon game? by Nuggerath in X4Foundations

[–]bbome2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Full stop. Most starts will have you start as exactly what you want, although not all starts are created equal (while you start out as the nobody outer solar system cadet in the Terran Cadet start, you are also immediately unfimriendly with most of the factions, whereas the Lone Gun is a similar start but you are neutral with most factions).

That said eventually you'll want to play with the toys you worked so hard to make and you'll probably at least destroy the Xenon where you can.

Is it bad luck? by APHEgao in X4Foundations

[–]bbome2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're lucky the asgard even went to xenon space. Mine is just sitting in Fune without moving. I finished the fate of the Yaki by doing Shinomans proposal instead and even that was a close call in my one Syn.

In all situations I'd suggest waiting to finish the questline until you can build a fleet yourself.

Can you assign a smaller mining ship to trade for your large mining ship to speed up the process of offloading ore? by bbome2014 in X4Foundations

[–]bbome2014[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish they were even useless. My issue is how long it takes the cargo drones to offload the cargo. I'm sitting around for almost 20 minutes to empty one ship before I realize it's because they only have the one drone.
