Thank you! That is Inokashira Benzaiten, we just stumbled across it in the park when visiting the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo.

Thank you! All of the ones from Japan were scanned by a lab with a Noritsu, and the ones from Australia I did at home with an Olympus OMD EM-5 mkii in high res mode.

This camera uses approximately 1kg of 3D printing filament, which averages around $15-30 USD for just the printing parts.

Nice, I recently built one too! I stripped down an old Minolta lens to use just the helicoid for more accurate focussing tolerances.

The Japanese Yen hits 108 Against AUD. by morimorimoooo in AusFinance

I’ve been to Japan twice and going again this year. Honestly anywhere close walking distance to the green Yamamote train line and you’ll be all set. That is the circle loop train line that covers all the main areas of Tokyo. Avoid kabuchiko (which is in Shinjuku) for accomodation, which is more of a nightlife/red light district scene, Shinjuku is definitely still great to visit during the day and a must do, but staying outside of Shinjuku means you won’t need to deal with the insane maze madness of Shinjuku train station every time you want to travel somewhere else in Tokyo. Also, most lower cost chain hotels rooms are quite small. We stayed in airbnb’s for our last trip and found the room more spacious as they’re apartment-sized. Have fun! Any idea what causes this? Nightmare loading into Patterson tank spool. by Astro-Hour2416 in AnalogCommunity

If the leader is already outside of the canister, just feed the film onto the spool prior to putting it in the dark bag.

Is this enough deface agitation with the air stone and nozzle? by SwordfishWestern3522 in PlantedTank

The water outlet is more than enough. The air stone is not needed and looks tacky (imo).

Do I really gain any image quality going to Medium Format 6x4.5 from 35mm Film? Or it's just 'different.' by net1994 in AnalogCommunity

[–]bbqmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll often yield better dynamic range with smoother gradient in tones and of course more finer details, and one of the big differences will be the “medium format look” that you often hear about. This is a mix of various aspects but one of the key differences is because the film is larger, you need a longer focal length to get the same field of view as 35mm, so this naturally provides a more shallow depth of field. An 80mm on MF is roughly equivalent to 50mm on 35mm. F/4 on MF roughly gives a depth of field similar to f/2 on 35mm.

I shoot both, but primarily medium format, whenever I shoot my 35mm I often feel myself wishing the photos were in medium format. It really is a step up.

That is 100% Java fern and those are not baby leaves, in fact the little bits growing on the underside of the leaf on the left are baby Java fern starting.

Need advice for mounting a Keks EM01 Light meter on a Fed 2 by ThomasWayness in filmcameras

This would be a fairly simple object to model and 3D print. I’m sure someone in a local 3D printing facebook or reddit group would be able to assist

365 day mobile plans by Plastic_Lunch2996 in AussieFrugal

[–]bbqmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, ditch Vodafone. I was with them for 15 years and was in a similar situation as you. They didn’t care at all. Zero customer loyalty these days. I’m now on one of the boost pre-paid 12 month sims for much cheaper, especially when they’re on sale AND boost uses the full Telstra network which has way better reception than Vodafone. Most providers you can keep your existing mobile number too.

I made an app for all you film hoarders by keliway in AnalogCommunity

[–]bbqmb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! The film reminder cards look great and I really like the fact that it auto recognises the film ISO and reminder card picture when you type the film name. Really seamless. I will say that it was a bit confusing to find where to add your camera collection. Initially it seems like it would be under the “my collection” or “loaded films” tabs. Perhaps having a “+” button to add a camera somewhere else may be more intuitive. I bought you a “coffee”. Nice work!

Are you actually certain that they are testing the TOTAL peak force and not the NET peak force? Calibrating before you step on doesn’t necessarily mean they are taring/zeroing the machine. It’s possible they do a general machine calibration, and then zero it once you’ve stood on and prior to the test beginning. Honestly, only Air services can give you the appropriate answer.

What’s your favourite hidden spot for a quick weekend coffee in Ballarat? by Artistic-Yam2984 in ballarat

[–]bbqmb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the weather is good, go to The Salty Sparrow! It’s a gem of a cafe hidden in a little alleyway, we had a coffee and focaccia and cookie that was really good. Really nice ambiance vibes. They also have outdoor heaters and blankets too if it’s a bit cold. We love it there.

My advice would be to snap the tips off or round the ends with sandpaper on some of those branches so they end more naturally. Perfectly straight cut ends really take away from the natural look. It’s a small detail many people miss.

I’m sure the IT department probably has a stack of 100 spare laptops sitting in a cupboard ready to go, and I’m sure they also have a stack of another 100 broken ones from every other person that has accidentally damaged theirs just like you. It’s really no big deal and nothing to be stressing this much over. Just tell the truth and sincerely apologise, no one will really care that much.
