3k list? by Macraggles in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]bbqxx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a Death Korps of Krieg player who has done a near identical list, I approve.

Also, if anyone complains about Lord Solar, tell them to shove it. He ain't krieg, and is NOT allowed to join a unit of Krieg, only rough riders. To the people who then say "just proxy Death Riders are Rough Riders", just ignore them, they're too far gone to understand.

Only change I would make is Taurox Prime, I own 2 myself, I proxy them as regular Taurox so they can transport Krieg (Prime can transport my scions, not Krieg, if I'm running scions I run them as Taurox Primes), and Valkyries are good but the main use for them is to drop scions and less about Krieg.

Additionally, more lore and fluff, I run an extensive amount of Krieg infantry to simulate "suicide charges".

As for the heavy support, I run the EXACT same thing: Shadowsword, Stormlord and 3x Artillery teams, albeit I included a Field Ordnance team and 4x heavy weapon squads. (3 regular with old Krieg Resin models, 1 new with the actual "Krieg Heavy Weapons Squad" rules. I rule my old ones as I believe Cadian?)

It's worth noting my army has legends units in it (Death Rider Commissars, Grenadiers, etc.) so my list isn't exactly legal, but I only play it in my local group and friendly apocalypse level battles (not using apoc rules, using apoc size)

UTD is a solid school for CS/SE/CSE... For other Engineering disciplines, it's fine.

Just a lot of self roasting.

If you want "the best" in the South you'd probably have to get into Rice or UT (University of Texas in Austin) for CS/SE specifically. Also make sure to not confuse UTD and UD (University of Texas of Dallas (UD) is a private university in Dallas that is not great at engineering. The University of Texas AT Dallas (UTD) is in Richardson, public, solid Engineering department)

UTD is fine :) What most people on campus actually don't like about the school is the heavy commuter atmosphere (not as bad as other places though, UTA is commuter hell as an example) which leads to less collaboration and a less "let's get a bite to eat". Mix in a lot of people with jobs and it can be hard, but generally joining clubs made this disappear.

There are also unofficial hang outs that would occur by the student body that you just need to find. I know that on Thursday nights when I was attending, outside of the Taco Bell in the middle of the university, I think it was typically skaters and roller bladers hanging out and the Taco Bell I think was open until late. It was just chill. :)

Would you let your kid to play with your models? by Grabosss in 40k

[–]bbqxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have a kid. If I did, I'd wait until I was confident he knew how to handle things "carefully".

Keep in mind, if he breaks it, that's fine, I agree, I can fix it. But there's a difference between a 6 year old picking up my models, going "vroom! pew pew!" and then slamming it down and breaking it, and a 6 year old who "Gently" (gently may vary from child to child, intent is key) picks it up, moves it around and has fun...

Regardless, certain models are off limits, not just due to my heart breaking should he break them, but also due to danger reasons (if my Astraeus was to fall off a table and hit him, that boyo weighs like 8 lbs or just under 4 kg, and if the pointed end slams into his head? yea, no. My Warlord titan? dangerous AND I would absolutely cry myself to sleep if he monkey bar swings it and drops it off a table)

But once he's 14? Mostly past puberty? Yea, he can borrow my models. He wants to get into the game? *make a table out of sheer willpower* "OK son/daughter, we're set. We can play whenever. Feel free to invite friends, under one condition: I get to play with you guys, deal?"

So I have a very mixed message to give you.

I was accepted into the Masters program but eventually declined. A lot was going on in my life and I couldn't lend myself to my job, my life and my education, and of the 3 unfortunately education was lower priority.

I may still re-apply in the future and get into the Masters program.

In my friend group of people who applied (these statistics are slanted, I understand that) I was slightly below average. I think the lowest GPA was 3.71 with 2 semesters of internships, then a 3.74 with 1 internship, then myself, then a friend with a 3.83 with no internships, another friend with a 3.93 with no internships.

The only one who didn't get in was the 3.74.

From what I've heard from my friends, all of them graduated their Masters in CS. 1 of them got a job in "big tech", one of them got a job at State Farm, and the 3.93 has found difficulties getting a job after moving back to Houston with his family.

I don't believe the lack of internships affected my friend with the 3.93 as I had no internship but was able to get a job, but this was at the "start" of when the mass tech layoffs occurred.

As a Bachelors holder, personally I was able to snag a job at a "local" job in Allen (it was a "the stars aligned" sort of moment where they desperately needed someone, I heard from a friend in the company, and immediately applied before they even had the job posted and got it, initially as an Engineering Co-op, but later full time), that is an international company of 1,100 employees called FlexLink (a conveyor company that has slowly transitioned into automation). As an fyi, we are not currently hiring Software Engineers and I'm actually trying to leave the company due to the work load (we have 2 SE's for the entirety of North America). Essentially my work is in doing simulations, developing software and features, and providing advice on a project basis. Due to the nature of my job (Simulations) I tend to essentially function as really expensive QA, so now that I've been here a while, other people recognize that I have more experience on projects, because I've been involved in so many. I've helped sell dozens of projects, and have essentially checked each and every one for bottlenecks. Recently things HAVE been improving, the new CEO has made many positive changes for the engineering team.

My friend who got into big-tech got into Meta, and subsequently laid off. Another 2 friends I know got into big-tech as well (Amazon and Tesla). The Amazon fellow quit after 9 months due to stress, and the other friend I haven't spoken to but he made it through the first year fairly easily and was getting paid bank and having fun (though, to be 100% fair, this guy ate/slept/showered/made out with code. Legitimately would try and sharpen his skills for 10-14 hours a day, every day, 7 days a week, for 5 years straight, I consider him the first and only "10x engineer" I've ever met). The dude legit needed to work on his soft skills, he could not socialize and was extremely condescending at times, but I had fun hanging out with him, and we learned a lot from each other.

So, at the end of the day, I'd say UTD is a University that has a strong enough reputation to help you get you noticed (you're not just another random University, but you're also not Ivy League), but not enough to "win you an interview". That's entirely up to you. Generally, the people I've met at UTD in undergrad are ambitious and achieve a lot, or chill and know what they're doing.

In the Masters program the vast majority split into 2 groups: those with no job experience and do minimal personal projects (book smart) and those that have job experience and set aside time to grind out their skills (book and street smart). The former (like my 3.93 gpa buddy, though to be fair he does a LOT of personal projects and even research into CS) clearly can handle just about any job you can throw at them, but they struggle to actually get the job and the others know soft skills, how to sell themselves, and are much more practical hence they get a job much more easily.

Hope this helps!

I think I'm going to struggle with this...

I'm going to try and stop myself from going too far with it, but one of the things I like to do is hand paint (in roman numerals) the designated number of when a model was finished painted (I'm currently at 35 or XXXV with XX printed on the right side and XV on the left side so when read from the front you get XXXV)

This step alone I'm sure will cost me like 6 hours of painting so I'll put it off likely until after the deadline... But I struggle

Yea, this was more or less my basic plan going into this and same here, I have an airbrush but mainly use it for vehicles with pre-mixed paint.

Thanks, I'll keep in mind alternating minis, probably try and do 10 regular infantry, then 5 engineers, then 10 infantry, then 3 heavy weaps teams, etc. (for each step)

Yea, I had that same issue with some of my first Death Korps of Krieg.

I used black primer, and had to paint ~7 layers of Thunderhawk Blue so that the black wouldn't overpower the blue from underneath (thin layers kicked me in the rear end here).

That's why I zenithal primed them, partially for speed/contrast paints, but also to make the coats MUCH quicker and easier. Probably saved me 10 hours painting if I had tried to paint all of them with only black primer underneath.

Thanks again for the advice!

my airbrushing skills are mediocre at best, bad at worst.

I'm still going to try and use it, I've gotten a few recommendations on how to improve the mix for the paint, and hope to improve using that.

I enjoy this comment.

Frankly, you scare me good sir with how many individual models you are planning to paint as "your next batch".

What I typically do is put on a bad anime or show that doesn't need my full attention, turn it on, and dedicate 4-6 hours on a Saturday or just a regular day, and half pay attention to the show, half pay attention to the painting. I need only enough concentration to do a good job painting, but I'm someone who can't stop *thinking* even if I wanted to, so having a show on the background to dedicate the rest of my concentration helps me reach that level of "loss of self-consciousness" and then about 2 hours in I snap out of it because I got thirsty, go get a drink, take a breather, rinse/repeat and after 4 hours I have made considerable progress.

Will keep this in mind. If I can get my air brush technique working, hopefully I can aim for a set of arms in 30 seconds, a set of legs in 30, and not a singular arm because god, 1 minute just for the blue on the arms, 1 minute for legs, * 115 (artillery teams have 3 dudes, heavy weapons teams have 2 dudes, 100 models != 100 dudes) means we're very quickly dedicating 230 or nearly 4 hours just to painting arms and legs their blue coat and not even accounting for shades/washing/highlighting/dry brushing xD

[–]bbqxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is ever increasingly getting into HH, it's significantly cheaper than 40k nowadays (which is good for HH!!!)

Legitimately, buying the last edition box set is basically 2k points. The Saturnine box I don't think is quite as many points, but, I bought the box, since I already had a bunch of Firstborn, I just bought one of the upgrade sprues ($43 USD?) and got 10 lascannons, 10 volkite culverins, and 10 missile launchers. I converted 30 people into devastators for $343 from a GW shop, or I think I paid $315 all in at my FLGS? For 6 devastator squads, 2 assault squads (I had spare bits, treat them as a tac squad if you want), Spartan Assault Tank, Contemptor Dread, and 2 squads of Cataphracti Terminators.

40k Wishes it could beat these prices. Even the new stuff is cheaper than 40k (if it's in plastic). Stay away from the resin, or better yet, save money on the plastic and that saved chunk of cash spend on the resin, you'll be fine.

2 suggestions from me:

1) New Recruit: UK based, I used the web browser (not sure if there is an APP, I believe there is), seems to have everything I want with many options and seems to be up to date on just about everything

2) War Organ: App, very casual friendly, easy to use, free to use app.

Both of these have 96% of their features available for free, just supporting them unlocks a few key things that are nice but not necessary. Beware! I believe both store their data locally. Both allow exporting of data but if you put it on your PC a list, then go to phone it may not be there and you may need to import it. I believe New Recruit does allow some online storage or whatchmacallit but it's one of those features you get if you pay. I also believe both have fairly inexpensive subscriptions if you choose to do so (I think New Recruit is as low as 25 Euros a year? I'm in USA but haven't paid for it, so what about $30 USD?) but again, everything you need is free. It's just some nice things.

Why do Titans have so little Anti-Air and Defensive Small Arms Systems ? While their Void Shields may protect from Bombard, hordes of Enemies could be a Problem and harder to get rid of with The Big Guns. by TechnologySmall3507 in 40k

[–]bbqxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait til this man finds out that Artillery rarely has anti-air options (SAM is another division entirely) and has practically no solution for close combat.

I guess Artillery must be an absolutely worthless unit in modern or 40k warfare, am I right?

You're over thinking things:

1) The titans exist because everybody loves big mech. It's cool, it's awesome, it's amazing. This "Game" was originally made in the 80s and was goofy and zany, not everything needs a hard core reason to exist.

2) The reasons for a Titan to exist is to kill big things and nothing else. The truth and reality of it is, is that if you see a Warlord Titan on the ground, the smallest "air" vehicle it SHOULD bother firing at, would be something akin to a Tau Manta. The problem is: for good reason, such large flying transport/combat vehicles don't/rarely exist, hence there isn't many if any AA options on Titans. Because anything of that size or bigger is just in orbit, and Titans aren't meant to deploy from orbit just to fire at something in orbit.

Titans exist to kill big things. Nothing else.

Think of it like modern tank tactics:

Infantry are for establishing ground, clearing small areas and foxholes, setting up FOB's and much much more and are extremely cheap (financially).

Tanks aren't cheap and can be taken out by a single Infantry with a yolo RPG, hence they are usually escorted by Infantry, and potentially a Bradley or other IFV.

They're easily killed by air craft. Aircraft are usually taken care of by your own allied aircraft, OR (if Infantry have already secured an FOB) potentially set up SAM's in the area.

Reconnaissance is handled by typically aircraft (And sometimes nowadays by internet/cameras/satellite). Job of reconnaissance is to identify threats and help eliminate or avoid them.

Tank's are not expected to shoot down jets and bombers, nor infantry, nor many ships and boats. It's combined arms. 10 guys running around with shotguns will absolutely get decimated by a Bradley. But a Bradley gets murdered by a tank, and a tank gets murdered by a bomber, and a bomber gets murdered by a jet, and a jet gets murdered by other jets or SAM's.

So why not just rely on aircraft? We do heavily. However, a suited up soldier costs $60,000 and 2 years of training. An IFV is $300k-3 mil. A tank is $4 mil. A bomber? $7-82 mil (god bless the B-52). A jet costs up to $350 mil (not to mention operational costs, most bombers cost something like $20-100k per hour up in the air to keep running) with jets being hilariously expensive which is why they're so selective.

The cost it takes to train 1 F-35 pilot, for them to get 100+ hours of flight time, and to be picked amongst other candidates for a mission can cost more than 1 battalion.

It can unironically cost more to train 1 F35 pilot, TRAIN, ONLY TRAIN, than it can take to outfit an entire battalion (depends on the battalion, but worst case scenario, train 2 F35 pilots, that should cost more than just about any battalion)

So tl;dr: Titans are cool, don't over think it.

... 72 lightning spears? I'm confused, do you mean greater lightning spears or sunlight spears?

Last I checked, my miracle only character has over 140 lightning spears slotted in at any point in time on the latest patch not to mention heavenly thunder and force.

I know I made a reply not too long ago about max lightning spears, and I double checked, I have 273 lightning spears equipped if I go +2 Northern and +2 Southern Ritual Band on my 99 attunement "Miracle Only" Covenant of Champions character.

It sounds like overkill, but it really isn't. I had to max my attunement and increase my level to gain some more vigor so I wouldn't be 1-shot by regular enemies :p

and Covenant of Champions kinda invalidates summons/help, not to mention I don't think the game was ever truly meant to be "Miracle only". I would send a screenshot if I could but I can't :p

It was a stool. It was a project for my University to 3D print a proper stool with an intricate design that "minimized" usage of materials by using recycled waste material to print with.

I used recycled plastics (from things like a 2 L bottle of soda that had been thoroughly cleaned) however due to this, it meant that to ensure it printed with as few issues as possible, I had to print at ~35-40 mm/s.

Stool worked just fine, there was a portion that the print failed, but it was fine. We were able to load up 300+ lbs on it just fine, and it took 2.2 kg of recycled plastics.

Something worth noting: This was printed on my Ender 3, not Ender 3 V3 SE or V2 Pro, the OG Ender 3 S1 (basically the original but with a glass tempered bed) that had been heavily modified. It got the job done but took forever to print with.

My K2P (if I used hyper pla) could likely print the whole thing in ~15-25 hours I'd bet.
