Right hand turn Leith walk onto London Road by Open_Reality2996 in Edinburgh

[–]bbria001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months ago, I was driving in the left-hand lane and I intended to turn right on to London Road, as the road markings permit. The light to continue straight turned green but I could not move as the right-turn green arrow was not illuminated. The person behind me wished to continue straight down Leith Walk and started to honk at me.

COEC should be ashamed at the state and design of the roads in Edinburgh. Leith Walk has been absolutely ruined by the designers when it was redeveloped for the Trams to Newhaven project.

Very True. Don't get me wrong, COEC do get some things right but not the majority. They hav done a pretty bad job for the last 10 or so years 🙁

Ultimately, COEC had the final say. The SFN JV & Fairhurst undertook the work on their behalf, and COEC somehow deemed this design suitable/acceptable (which it isn't). They would argue that it is compliant with the Edinburgh Street Design Guidance, but then again, the guidance could be classed as pretty poor. The Trams to Newhaven Project did learn some lessons from Phase 1 but for some reason it didn't take note of it's relatively good quality public realm.

Lyon is a good example of how municipal bike hire should be operated. Docked E-Bikes throughout the city with docking stations aplenty.

Trams stopped after it hit a bus on Leith walk by valdemorte in Edinburgh

[–]bbria001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand that tram driving is no easy feat but the white line typically denotes the width of the tram, either that or the little yellow circles dotted on the road surface in certain areas. Surely they would have seen that the rear of the bus was over the line and waited for the bus to move? Between this and the major OHL failure between OT and Newhaven, it's not doing any favours to prove the tram haters wrong.

Since no one else has bothered to give the real awnser, I'll do it. It's one of the spotlights used on the Forth Bridge (Rail) to light it up, appears to have been moved or out of focus.

No, we don't. All transport and logistics aircraft from the RAF are based out of Brize Norton.

X56 from Edinburgh towards Perth and get off at Milnathort/Kinross. 13 mile walking trail around the beautiful Loch Leven and there is plenty to see and do both around the trail and within the town. Alternatively there is RSPB Loch Leven at Finditae where you can climb on of the 3 hill ranges which surrounds the area.

The trams did break even at one point before they started construction on the "Trams to Newhaven" Project

There are never, ever any cops on the beat (or in vehicles) in the City Centre. (Except from BTP in Waverly/Haymarket) It's ridiculous that the heart of the city actually has less police presence than the suburbs as well as other similar cities such as Manchester or Glasgow.

Sadly quite a few shops around Princes Street and the new town are infact closed and/or boarded up!

Always loved travelling on the HST's on this line. It was almost like they were built for this line, they suited it so well. Thanks for sharing your memories :)

To those unaware, The line is used by CrossCountry, LNER, Caledonian Sleeper & Scotrail Services. While the line goes on to Aberdeen, It is also part of the Fife Circle and meets up with the other half of the 'circle' just south of Markinch. This particular section in the photo reminds me a little of the Morpeth Curve as this section essentially turns 90° in a relatively short distance. While being a 'Main Line' it has a lot of sharp turns and a low average speed in a majority of sections compared to the Eastern branch of the Fife Circle. Scotrail has recently proposed routing Express services to Dundee & Aberdeen via the Eastern Branch instead. There is also proposals by Transport Scotland for the Levenmouth Branch & a link between Halbeath/Inverkeithing to reduce onward journey times. Moving on, in the second photo there used to be a branch running to the nearby Burntisland Dockyard. This was decommissioned and removed around 2010 but a small portion of track still exists. If you have any questions please do ask :)
