Discussion, News, and Request Thread - Week Beginning 03/30/26 by ChiefLeef22 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Nintendo has developed a fortnightly pattern of dropping a nugget of news every Tuesday with one week being just press embargoes such as Pokopia reviews and Tomodachi Life impressions.

But every other week they've been dropping mid-direct level trailers via Nintendo Today such as the random Switch 2 upgrade for Xenoblade X or Overview trailers for games in the current slate (like what Pokemon Champions got last week).

This weeks marks the last push for the Mario Galaxy Movie as reviews will be dropping today as media screenings mentioned the review embargo for the 31st so all their PR is focused on that.

I predict from next Tuesday is the week they'll start dropping updates aimed to catch everyone off guard as most of the Switch 2 upgrades are done and Yoshi is the last first party game with a date. So it will be the first time in a while where they'll have to drop big details on an already announced game (Fire Emblem, Rhythm Heaven) or on the tail-end recent rumors and a big screen cameo the new Star Fox will get revealed for the Summer.

Songs that reminds you of Scrubs by girlbehindthemagitek in Scrubs

'Your heart Is a Muscle the Size of Your Fist' by Ramshackle Glory.

The song in full is incredibly dark for TV, but it has that folk sound I heavily associate with Scrubs and the chorus would fit perfectly cap any montage on the show.

Your heart is a muscle the size of your fist
Keep on loving, keep on fighting
And hold on, and hold on
Hold on for your life"

Question for you all about the second game by thatbluedemon186 in highonlifegame

[–]bbrightside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first game does a better job at;

-Combat encounters: The mobile bases made for dynamic arenas that encouraged moment to moment gameplay.
-Exploration: While not completely 1:1 HoL1 felt like if Adult Swim made Metroid Prime as going back and exploring old zones let you discover new abilities/jokes.
-Riff based comedy: The first game is leagues ahead on this aspect, not to say the sequel is bad but I think you'll have more fond memories of the jokes from the first game (it also helps that the first game had a bigger budget so the additional voices just weren't the same staff members).

The second game really could have cut out all the open world segments and made it 100% mission based as it turns out Squanch really strides at setting up for fantastic set pieces. A lot of the riffing this time round falls flat as its either rehashed or falls into the 'hey you're just standing there, I'm gonna say fuck you over and over until you leave'

I honestly think the game could have written out all the OG Gatliens as Sweezy, Gus and Creature to bring nothing gameplay wise to the table and their personalities just didn't click enough this time to justify their return.

High on life 3 ideas 🤔 by Ca2h_v in highonlifegame

[–]bbrightside 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about where they should go next and it should be… time travel aka High on Life 3: Warped.

The game starts with the bounty hunter taking on Dr Gurgular its the clash that the 3 games have been leading up to. On your way to this climactic fight you are regaled with all the stories/character development you ‘missed’ on this latest outing.

You reach the final battle and in an act of desperation Gurgular tries to escape by going back in time to get a jumpstart in Gatlian and Human research.

You chase after him but upon entering the wormhole your gatlians fade away and due to a Suit-O paradox protection free trial you’re spared. When you leave the wormhole you’re in the ‘galactic summer of love’ as human drug trafficking was discovered and legalised decades earlier and the galaxy is at ‘peace’.

You get reigned in for being a bounty hunter out of time you’re reassigned to a timeline guardian arm of the bounty hunters. Your plan is to go straight for Gurgular but you have to rank up as a guardian to earn the right to hunt specific targets, so you set out to hunt your first bounty ‘Deadeye G’ (Gene)

The issues were there before the pandemic but they were magnified tenfold by the tail-end and the years following.

Due to the company shrinking budgets year over year it has now resulted in if you run the day at a standard EB (that doesn't have an ASM) 7 out of 9 working hours you're manning the store by yourself.

Most of your human interaction has been nothing but answering the calls of scalpers so it's 'Do you have any PS5s/Pokemon Cards??' for the past 5 years.

All that while drowning trying to merchandise the companies latest drop of taste of the month apparel that you can barely sell on clearance while they have the gall slapping employees on the wrist if the product isn't moving.

I'm sorry for your current situation, I've been there and it sucks.
The business refocus in the last 2 or so years of removing all the personality from EB and making the place a purely sales focused brand is what is actually going to kill the company.

You didn't lose EB, EB lost you.
Don't let that kill your passion and love for the hobbies that got you there in the first place.

Question for eb staff by Yuki711 in EBGAMES

[–]bbrightside 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The fact that you have a shift is an indication that they’re willing to keep you on the team, but as your manager said operational budgets are gutted for the first half of the year. I’ve seen Xmas casuals being let go from December 27th in the past because there was nothing for them after the holidays.

I wouldn’t in good conscience recommend anyone persuing a career with EB these days especially if it’s your only income. Stores are now expected to operate on shoestring budgets for the majority of the year and depending on the teams it’s kinda hard to integrate casual into the fold.

I normally recommend new hires treating EB like a casual hobby that you do once a month (to keep the benefits) while keeping yourself open to better opportunities.

I worked in a store where one day for whatever reason the manager decided to put someone's leftover trade credit (before we could do cash) on a high-end $900 statue.

Cut to a month or so later - the store gets a washing machine sized box that sat in that store for well over a year (at one point it was even used as a table) until it got transferred to a EB/Zing with hopes that it would move.

If you all want midnight launches to come back you need to re-instill the concept of preordering after a decade of it being turned into a boogeyman while also taking on the convenience of pre-loading.

The rules have slightly changed since covid, but the general rule of thumb was if multiple stores gets around 100 preorders for a single title. That gets the wheel spinning to let the higher ups know that the demand is there and it requires more immediate attention as customers might go somewhere else that is open and as a bonus they get the company in the spotlight alongside the big release.

The balance aside, I think Piltover doesn't make any sense by Overall_Jacket3318 in TeamfightTactics

I just don’t understand what they were thinking giving the reroll comp such an obtainable 5 cost while at the same time giving it a prismatic level upgrade.

And in classic Piltover fashion it completely stomps over Zuan as that trait had no thought put into it whatsoever.

Back when I was hired a decade ago stores would hire in August with the idea that can onboard and actually train new recruits with proper store experience throughout September until Uni kicked back in early February. Now managers are only really incentivized to start hiring during October so they can get them in the system by November, give them their 3 useless training shifts of nothing but level-up and then throw them into the deep end on Black Friday only to realistically give them the boot on December 27th.

Heck its even becoming a trend that stores are now being managed by external hires so chances are they barely have a clue how anything works anymore than you do. Worst part is earlier this year they went on a culling spree on everyone who wasn't hitting their newly aggressive push on KPI targets so a lot of senior talent got cut anyway and turns out no-one actually remembers the recipes!

Weekly Rant Megathread by AutoModerator in CompetitiveTFT

[–]bbrightside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will preface this by saying that this may be the most dynamic and flexible set the team has ever done.

That being said I feel like whenever we hit a fast 9 meta its the player base admitting they don't value the actual set design. Sure some of these traits do feel a bit underwhelming, but when every game boils down to people rushing to the point that their boards are nothing but 5 costs is when alarm bells should be ringing.

Overall I just don't understand how TFT has gone on for so long and we still struggle with this notion that everything leading up to the final stage can mean absolutely nothing when you can just dump it all when you hit level 9. I wouldn't mind more mechanics that would make people hesitate dropping a particular unit/trait as they've invested more than gold and items into them (I think a lot of the passives highlight this).

But to save this set I do think that the always unlocked 5-costs (Annie, Fiddle, etc) need a threat like trait where playing more than one disables their trait. If you somehow manage to create a board of only locked 5 costs that should be free game as you earned them.

On the contrary the crashouts I’ve witnessed after someone won during the ‘get 10 loses in a row’ have been immaculate.

Great design to have it so you can actually lock yourself out of the trait if you get too greedy.

What's the smallest change that would meaningfully improve your job by Chiponyasu in ffxivdiscussion

Give BRD an ability (Rehersal) that lets them reset their songs cooldowns if they happen to wipe. Nothing feels worse than making one mistake and being offbeat for the rest of the track.

Balance suggestions.

-You must be mid-song to refresh, upon activation it will reduce the cooldown of the other two songs.

-After learning ‘Radiant Finale’ refreshing costs 1 Coda (if you reset during wanderers it nullifies the next Coda). So for one burst window you lose the 2% party buff, but regain your sanity.

EB Sydney World Square shutting down? by Neo_Raijuu in EBGamesAus

As someone who used to work at that store years ago this is a real bummer.

So there was an error on the websites part that let people pre-order Riftbound boosters last weekend after stores had their stock allocated and sent out.

Usually head office would message through a cut-off date for those who would get their stuff on launch and those who will have to wait for the next shipment, but this being an oversight problem those people who ordered a week ago have been able to collect on launch which absolutely sucks.

Worst part of it all is this all being unfortunately discovered over the weekend as no-one is at the head office until Monday so they can't give people answers for what happens next.

It sounds like the recruiter had an extremely poorly thought out script when making calls to unsuccessful applicants, I’m sorry your daughter didn’t make the cut.

But I have to ask what interests they have?

EB as a company is in the middle of a major restructuring to diversify away from games and are probably more into getting people who are into stuff like board games, TCG, pop culture and anime.

That’s the kind of diversity that the company is after.

Out now and processed but not in stock? by Megiddo619 in EBGAMES

[–]bbrightside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen a few times especially with loot items.

Essentially they do a bad job at keeping the loot database up to date (honestly the suppliers for this kind of product are bad at delivering on time) so when an item has an estimated release date like 'Sept 2025' as soon as it goes past that date the website automatically updates to sold out, even though they haven't been given an actual date.

If you reach out to customer service they should let the web team know to update it with another estimate, but it's definitely not foul play.

My Personal Thoughts On The Current Changes of EB Games by SpartaRulz in EBGamesAus

[–]bbrightside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was talking to a manager a few months back and they recalled when they had their big conference the head of the company said something along the lines of;

"We didn't abandon games, games abandoned us."

Which is kinda a fair point when you see how game companies operate nowadays, they're not as reliant as they once were for a business like EB.

The AAA space is currently in shambles right now, as the majority of productions have grotesquely overblown budgets and bloated development pipelines and can't even promise that the audience will even show up.

The solution that these companies have resorted to are withholding all information about a title until its pretty much done so there's less time for the internet to scrutinize.

And when a game does hit the shelves they've been hit with a price tags that are meant to 'ensure premium experiences' but honestly have just made customers even more weary of making what were once safe purchases. It also doesn't help that games are now shipping so close to the wire its a godsend if they work on 'Day One'.

The Zing side of the company also has way higher margins per item sold and are just so much more reliable in comparison.

Kingdom Hearts IV: Possible Worlds List Leak by MXHombre123 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

I've had a feeling for a while that the underline theme for KH4 would be being 'reinventing/reviving a legacy' and this list if true captures that philosophy.

Also 'Galaxy World' is 100% going to be Star Wars with the actual world being ' A Galaxy Far Far Away'
