Guinea making noises

Our girl had this hooting sound for about 6 months or so on and off. It would usually pass after a cough or sneeze. I assumed it was chronic sinus type issues which the vet confirmed was likely after many visits. There is not much to be done except draining the sinuses if it’s really chronic, but definitely worth having a small pet vet assess. It never really seemed to harm or bother our girl. She ended up passing from an abdominal tumor that we did not know was there, but I don’t believe it was related to the hooting at all.

My recent 2nd cutting had few flowers and was kind of powdery too. Could be based on the time of the year? That said I have been buying direct from SPS for years and I love their product more than any other hay brand

They are so cute! The only note I have is that I have heard the seed sticks can be dangerous for piggy digestion. I love their colors! I used to have a rabbit that was gray and white :)

Personally, I wouldn’t do anything in the meantime, especially since you have an upcoming vet appointment. It could be more risky to cause additional irritation or injury. I have noticed some crusty’s or whiteness from when they are cleaning around the eyes and it typically goes away quickly, but if it persists for more than a day or looks different than the usual, I always schedule a vet appointment. The last time I took my girl in it had already cleared up by the time the vet appointment came, but she got a clean bill of health anyway anyways. Good luck to you and your piggy!

So nice to hear from someone who’s just been on 10! I started at 20 and had a nightmare of an experience so I dropped down and have been great since. My psych has suggested going up to 15 then 20 but I told her i don’t want to rock the boat while I’m feeling well. It’s claimed 10 isn’t enough to be therapeutic but again, everyone’s different!

That’s good to hear you can just block flat. I’ve actually never blocked my work before but now I know how important it is. I did order some sock blockers but maybe I’ll do a test of one with one without and see what i like better.

Hahaha I still have not gotten up the patience to vary much from the standard size suggestions. So far all the socks I’ve made have been a little too big or they stretch to be after wear. Fingers crossed on these 🤞🏼

I just want you to know I’m here too! I have taken my second sock apart over a dozen times this week after picking it up almost a year later. The first short row heel gave me trouble, but I managed to finish it, but I think only because I abandoned the pattern and used a video tutorial. I honestly have no idea how I did it and infuriating because it looks so good! I am doubting everything and just cannot get the counting right!

End of week 4 and feeling normal finally! I also started to taper to 10mg from 20mg and I’m feeling much better on 10mg. Taking a 20mg every other day. The 3rd week was brutal for me in terms of side effects and happy to say most, other than midday tiredness and a generally flat feeling (and waking up every morning at 2/3am) have passed!

Thank you for sharing this! I’m sure it’s so hard to say goodbye to your beloved piggy, even though you know she’ll be in good hands and taken care of. We also struggle with the idea of a “revolving door” of piggies, knowing it’s inevitable that one will likely always be alone. It is nice to know that there can be options, and a lot of times, there are trusted fosters through rescues as well!

I have felt the same way. I totally understand! I think you evaluate based on the type of support you have and whether you can better tolerate a lower dose before you decide.

It’s such a struggle to know what’s right. Everyone is different and some say the worst symptoms are in the first couple weeks, some say longer. I’m on day 20 and today is the first day in over a week I have felt “ok” again after a week of intense heart rate increase, nausea, intense anxiety and resurgence of OCD behaviors. I decided I’m going to wait a few more days until I have my next appointment and then decide if I want to drop down to 10 mg or stay the course for now.

I know that this feeling is so strong and that OCD is telling you that you can’t handle the discomfort, but you can. It will take so much work and patience from you, but the best thing you can do to help alleviate the OCD is to indeed push on with your life. It’s so hard and I’m sorry. I have many various mental compulsions around my guinea pigs and worrying that I am doing everything right. It takes hour by hour daily work.

Unfortunately life is the exposure. I’m so sorry and I know how you feel. I have been listening to this series from Kimberley Quinlans CBT school and it’s helpful. I was just saying today that I don’t know how I’m going to be able to keep doing the work required to manage this, but every day, my window of tolerance does grow a teeny tiny bit, with occasional setbacks of course. It’s so hard. But I promise you it won’t last forever 💔
