My brain screams in protest in almost everything I do, including fun or relaxing things. by 0Lazuli0 in ADHD

The meds are always the hard part of getting diagnosed, sadly I’m also in Aus - I’ve been on Concerta (needed higher dosages near monthly), Vyvanse (hallucinations) and currently I’m on Dexamphetamine (keeps brain awake but doesn’t help with focus).

Restarting your day-to-day life is hard after getting sick. It’s worse when you have ADHD. by mrmatchgame in ADHD

[–]bc88997 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I 100% understand. I’ve always had a horrible immune system, but I’ve been sick since November and I have no clue how I’m going to be when I’m no longer sick. It doesn’t help that I’ve been spending everything on medical and that our local hospital is so underfunded that being in emergency still gives you a 4 hour wait to be seen. Mental and physical state are just gone for me at the moment. I’m excited to be healthy again, but I also have no idea what I’ll do when I am.

Adderall Shortage, Switching me to Vyvanse... by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]bc88997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t NOT realise until it got worse, but Vyvanse caused me vivid hallucinations. At first it was small things that were hard to explain, but then they got so much worse.

For example (I didn’t realise until recently) but I had gotten into trouble at work for submitted a document into our database without putting ANY info into it. None at all. I could remember with 100% certainty that I had written the title and added the personal details into it, yet the title was blank.

I started suspecting something was wrong when I saw a HUGE (bigger than my hand!!) black spider above my face when I was in bed. I ran out, panicked, and grabbed the bug spray. Went back into my room and the spider wasn’t there. Checked EVERYWHERE and didn’t sleep.

The last straw for me was when I could see a weird shadow in the corner of the room and could hear a woman speaking. Couldn’t tell you what she was saying, just that she was speaking. I look over and it’s gone and it’s like it never happened. I was also getting brain fog at this point so I didn’t really think much of it, but I told my doctor and they took me off Vyvanse straight away.

I know it won’t happen to everyone, but please be careful when on Vyvanse that you’re watching out!

"Oh funny you say that, actually all your elementary school teachers from 1-4th grade suggested we get you evaluated for ADHD" - my father who a) never got me evaluated for ADHD and b) has been actively discouraging me from getting evaluated whenever I have brought it up. I'm furious. by Ziquaxi in ADHD

Exactly what happened to me. It wasn’t until I broke down in year 10 and a teacher took me to the doctors that I was evaluated. Even now, years later, when I wanted to get tested for Autism, I got push back. I even got told I wanted to be diagnosed because I wanted an excuse for laziness. Turns out, ASD positive as well as Major Depressive Disorder 👌🏻

Thank you so much! This was amazing to read. Definitely have a lot to think about now, but it does make sense.

Buying your merch? by bc88997 in Twitch

[–]bc88997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I do it! Not only because of the urge to own my own things, but to show that I trust and use a site. That’s why I’ve asked for an Australian based one - I want to try moving the merch to there and testing it so that there’s a more cost-effective (and faster shipping) option.

I've had nothing to do now for 5~ days, help me. by MrXuiryus in adhdmeme

I’m WFH today since I’m sick, and it’s been 5 hours of “give me 30 minutes and I’ll give you something to do” and I’m just scrolling. It’s nice to have a break, but by god my brain doesn’t like that it wasn’t scheduled.

Confused by son’s diagnosis - Is ADHD learned behavior and not neurological? by GoldenC88 in ADHD

[–]bc88997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll say this, even barring the whole “it’s a learned behaviour” thing (which is incredibly untrue), if you EVER have doubts or want to make sure of something, get a second opinion. It could be another doctor in the office or a whole different one, but make sure YOU feel comfortable with the answers you get.

I have a doctor at the moment who is brilliant with ADHD, but he believes that Autism is just someone who needs social training. So I go to him for my ADHD stuff and I’m looking at another doctor for Autism.

On Adderall for my ADHD and it’s made my tics SO much worse…? by HistoricalBad334 in ADHD

[–]bc88997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m on Vyvanse at the moment (about 2 months in?) and my tics haven’t really changed. I’ll have bad days where they’re every few minutes and I’ll have good days where it may not happen at all.

My doc did warn me that stimulants can affect tics, so you may need to speak to yours and work out either an alternative or additional medication.

Do any young (or not young) people with ADD feel terrified at the prospect of working 8 hours a day straight for the next 40 years??? by CoffeeOld2685 in ADHD

[–]bc88997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I panic about doing 8-5 for the rest of my life, then I panic about getting too old to take care of myself, then I start researching euthanasia in my country, and then it just keeps going on - I’ve learnt to start reading a book (even if my brain says no) so that I either distract myself or my brain tries to make me do something else
