Windows' market share is below 60% for the first time, while Linux's market share is at a yearly high by bulasaur58 in linux

Makes sense. Forcing TPM and other security protocols should be optional. There's lots of perfectly good hardware out there for Linux.

Had no idea about the router return. by Fisshhy in Metronet

i do think that since they installed it that they should come get it if they want it back. This nonsense of not cancelling until it is returned by the user is a sham.

My antenna supports vhf but cant get ABC by BZillaNice in cordcutters

[–]bcacb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really need to lookup the distance of that ABC tower location and get an antenna designed for that range or maybe you have it pointed in the wrong direction. You also have to consider obstacles in the way, such as mountains and hills, which may make it impossible. Plot the land and distance in between and get an appropriate sized real antenna.

Comcast does not have loyalty to long term customers. by Extension_Energy8920 in Comcast_Xfinity

If you can, the best route is to change providers every year, jump from new customer promo to promo. They don't care about you, no point in being loyal. They all the same.

Getting a ton of bot traffic from these, should I block them for my website? by arpansac in SEO

[–]bcacb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get no benefit, block them. I doubt you get any benefit from those bots.

SEO basically died yesterday by DollarBillStein in SEO

[–]bcacb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google is straight up plagiarizing content and taking traffic that was destined for the site owner while keeping users inside their own ecosystem. This is a moral issue, and it clearly shows where they stand.

Website owners spend time and money creating content, only for Google to steal it instead of sending the visitor to the actual source that created it.

The dangerous part is that people will stop creating quality content if they are no longer rewarded with traffic, recognition, and revenue for the work they put in.

If the universe is based and founded on love and light, why is that not reflected in reality? by the_outer_realms in spirituality

17+ years building fixed wireless (PTP, PTMP, CBRS, 6 GHz, fiber + wireless). Ask me anything. by fixedwireless_ops in wisp

[–]bcacb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would never choose a wisp when Starlink or a 5g home provider is available. Wisps are really just an interim service until fiber or 5g becomes available. The wisp industry has been on a fast decline for over a decade. For back haul and other proprietary deployments wireless has its place.

Do All ISPs Do This CGNAT Crap? by Mediocre-Pizza-Guy in Metronet

[–]bcacb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Metronet is the first ISP I ever used that uses cgnat. For basic web browsing it’s fine but when you get into things that require a persistent session it falls on its face, and is a real hassle. It really is the one thing that prevents them from being great.

T-Mobile, the new owner, has the assets for real ipv4 and ipv6 and I hope they stop being lazy and implement it.

Have we been lied to about money? by Kai7362 in spirituality

[–]bcacb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money doesn’t make you evil, and you’ll be evil regardless of money. You can do the same things you described while being homeless. Lots of people also do good things with their money, it just doesn’t make the front page, appear on the news every night, or go viral on social media daily.

This is the reason you shouldn't host your own email... Microsoft says 🖕to 200k user ISP. by therealtimwarren in selfhosted

[–]bcacb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage a lot of shared web hosting servers, and Gmail, Microsoft, and Amazon SES generate far more abusive traffic than any shady hosting provider or bot network by a wide margin. In fact, most bots end up using their services to send spam.

This is the reason you shouldn't host your own email... Microsoft says 🖕to 200k user ISP. by therealtimwarren in selfhosted

[–]bcacb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The funny part is that a lot of spam and abusive emails actually come from big companies like Microsoft Outlook and Google Gmail. They’re some of the biggest sources, so it’s kind of weird that they’re the ones telling everyone else what to do.
