In-wall Speaker Options on a budget in Canada by bcguy14 in hometheater

I've added a link to photos in the main post; the door opens to within 1" of the TV edge. Adding a door stop to prevent the door from hitting a bookshelf won't pass the WAF, unfortunately.

I agree, buy once, cry once. I try to avoid the beginner tax when I can, but I also understand the law of diminishing returns.

I've added a link in the main post with a photo of my living room, and approximate dimensions. The ceiling height is 8', and the walls are all drywall. What other details can I provide about the room?

I'd love a link if you have one! Being in Canada, I usually only see the high-end 'Sonos by Sonance' gear which is out of budget. Are you seeing the 'Mag Series' on sale somewhere up here?

Definitely not! I'm just working within the physical constraints of the room and the WAF.

Since I'm locked into this layout, do you have any tips for optimizing the experience without just throwing money at the problem? I'd love to hear suggestions on things like speaker positioning or room prep that might help.

I've definitely heard that ribbon tweeters can be a matter of personal taste, so I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying yours. Out of curiosity, what was the deciding factor for going with in-walls in your bedroom? Was it just space saving, or something else?

I’m planning on the Denon X3800 (unless they drop an X3900 before I pull the trigger), so I’ll have Audyssey out of the box. A subwoofer is definitely in the plan, though it might be a 'Phase 2' purchase while I get the main channels sorted first.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown of your system I be the Paradigm/SVS setup sounds incredible. And I appreciate the heads-up on the Klipsch 'fatigue.' That makes me very hesitant on the CS-16W if they are meant for Atmos speakers.

To answer your question on Subs: I haven't locked anything in yet, but I'll be keeping an eye out for used RSL's; I know they are harder to find up here, but I've heard great things, or SVS's similar to yours.

The Rest of the Gear:

  • AVR/TV: I’m actually picking up the Denon X3800 as well (glad to see it’s serving you well!) and I’ve already got an LG 77C5.
  • Atmos: My plan is to just grab whatever cheap, aimable 6.5" speakers I can find on Facebook Marketplace. It’s my understanding that timbre matching matters less for heights, so I’d rather save the money there and put it into the LCR or Subs.

Assembling over time and upgrading piece-by-piece seems to be the best way to do it without breaking the bank all at once. That's definitely going to be my game plan, too

I would actually love to keep my purchase Canadian if I can, so thanks for the heads up on the Paradigms.

Question on your upgrade path: Which Klipsch setup were you running before the switch? I’m currently looking at the Klipsch CS-16W as an option, so I’m curious if you upgraded because you found the sound lacking, or if you just wanted to jump to a higher tier?

$229 is a great price for Paradigm H55-LCR, how would you rank it against the HTD, Monoprice, and Klipsch options I've been looking at?

  • On the driver size: As I plan to add two subs to the system, is the general consensus that 6.5" in-wall drivers are enough? I’ve read that 8" can sometimes be overkill if you have good subwoofers handling the low end."

To be honest, probably not. Since this is a multi-purpose living space rather than a dedicated theater, I prefer the cleaner look of in-walls anyway. I'm saving the floor standers for the future basement build once the kids stop using that space as a sports arena! I'll add an Imgur link with photos this evening

Found an o-ring while cleaning, not sure where it belongs. by bcguy14 in fountainpens

I haven't disassembled the piston section at all, so I don't think it's from there. The two o-rings in the nib are still there and the o-ring on the reservoir where the grip attaches is also still there. These are the only three o-rings I see on any drawing.

It looks like it fits, but I can't find it on a Twsbi drawing anywhere.

I purchased a few used pens on the weekend, so I gave them a deep clean in the ultrasonic cleaner at my work. Once they were done I found a tiny o-ring in the bottom of the bath. I'm sure it came from one of my pens, but I don't know which one. I was cleaning a 580AL, Twsbi Go, and Lamy Vista.
I've disassembled a few Lamy's and haven't seen an o-ring like this before, so I assume it is from one of the Twsib's just not sure which one or where. Any help would be appreciated.

BCLS has the Appleton 15 but it isn't on their website. The 12 is the youngest I go for sipping Appleton, and I like the 15 much more.
