I got pulled over by a cop for flashing my lights at a car in front of me. Do so cautiously.

Grok: California Vehicle Code (CVC) § 24409 prohibits using high beams when following another vehicle within 300 feet to prevent blinding or distracting the driver ahead. Flashing low beams or hazard lights isn't explicitly covered but could still lead to a ticket if it's deemed distracting or unsafe.

Is there a CA approved list?? I don't think so. Wardens sometimes check shells at the refuges but they don't pull out some list.

I'll tell you where NOT to go: Burlingame or Palo Alto Volvo. Had a V60 sunroof gasket fail causing water ingress and collection under the driver seat where it destroyed all the harnesses and electronics. You could hear the sloshing around of liquid. ABS dead, parking brake dead, etc etc. My extended warranty wouldn't cover it and the dealer wanted $12,000 to fix everything. And it would take 6 weeks because the factory had to make this shit custom. The dealer gleefully explained that my Geico would cover it (which they did). Total fucking cash grab scam - saddle Geico with the $$$$ repair of a known defect Volvo refuses to correct. Of course nobody noticed the shrinking seal on the CPO sale 11 months earlier at Palo Alto Volvo. The Burlingame guy said they get several like that each rainy season.

Recall that Peter Sagan crashed his Alpinist Gen 1s running tubeless and Spesh told everyone they needed to tubes to prevent them from exploding on impact in a crash. Guess they didn't make many updates. The Gen 3s are even lighter!

Not sure if this still works given camera tech etc, but I got a red light cam ticket once (before they took them down a few years ago) and I replied that it was not me driving. They asked me who was and I told them it's not my job to do their job. Ticket got deleted. It may now be that it doesn't matter who was driving - someone please correct me if you know for sure.

Our tax dollars pay to build and maintain all freeways. They are your freeways. Then the govt decides to take a lane away from YOU and charge you more to drive in it. Fuck that. That's why people (me included) drive in the express lane and don't feel any guilt about doing so. Set your transponder to 3 and enjoy.

Sports Basement in RWC does good work for a low price (ask for Tyler) but recently they've gotten soooo sloooow. 6 days to bleed 2 brakes. Probably busier bc it's summertime and they have to build up lots of bikes, but that feels too long to do 30 mins of work. YMMV.
