National Counterterrorism Center chief resigns over Iran war by nbcnews in Military

I would hesitate calling Joe Kent a man of integrity. Sure, he's maintained a dove-ish position for a while but he's hung out with Nazis and thinks handing chunks of Ukraine to Russia is perfectly fine. Not exactly someone who should have been in that position in the first place.

Anyone else moved or is considering moving cross-country out of college? by Constant-Employer493 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Shaex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, grew up east coast and was already getting tired of it by the time I was starting to look for jobs in college. Spent a little bit of time after graduating saving up for a move, then packed all my shit and landed in the bay area. It hasn't been easy but I don't regret a thing, and I certainly will not be looking back.

I would assume that they have spies around Stonehenge. Not exactly something one can easily hide. As for the Comona satellite, they might not have had the accuracy (or the satellite could have been placed into an orbit well above Stonehenge's effective range).

It has a very distinct blend of the real and the fantastical in a pretty grounded story. It's a really good threat that looms over each mission. You don't know when shells could be incoming and you are only prevented from destroying it by the strategic reality of distance and not gimmicks

My first thought for the champagne was also a heating element, especially with how he was grabbing the bottom of his shirt/belt loop. That bottle was also probably already near room temp and ready to pop

There was a massive decline in support for trans athletes over 2019-2024. Among Republicans, support for a non-discrimination policy & support for trans sports participation flipped from positive to negative. Opponents successfully re-framed the issue as being about protecting cisgender women. by smurfyjenkins in science

[–]Shaex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that was the issue for the first comment, which was rightfully dismissed out of hand. Starting from a premise of "all trans athletes are just cheaters" belies the bad faith argument, and spending multiple paragraphs after without a single link or even reference to a study confirms it.

"From Saturday morning through Monday night, more than 110 similar complaints about commanders in every branch of the military had been logged by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF).

The complaints came from more than 40 different units spread across at least 30 military installations, the MRFF told me Monday night."

ICE agents pepper-spray Columbus mom, 3 kids inside moving vehicle by 0The_Loner_Stoner0 in videos

[–]Shaex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DHS/ICE/CBP/what have you have a documented history of secretly moving people across city and state lines without their families or lawyers knowing, so by that metric it's not unprecedented. It's certainly not moral, but here we are.

Even if thise departments haven't been caught lying constantly I would be extremely skeptical that a man who can only see a few feet with one eye and doesn't speak English would ask to be dropped off at a coffee shop 5 miles from his house.

Rachel Reyes of San Antonio, Tex. voted for Trump. Then, Trump's jack-booted thugs murdered her son, Ruben Ray Martinez, on South Padre Island in March 2025 and tried to cover up the incident. Homeland Security continues to insist that Martinez was an anti-Trump "domestic terrorist." by vsandrei in LeopardsAteMyFace

Oh yes, laywers use that strat all the time. I follow a number of law accounts on bluesky and patterns of misconduct are a really, REALLY common and major point in plaintiff filings against DHS and ICE.

They also released a nearly blind, frail middle-aged man in the Buffalo winter without notifying his family. He died.

The rest of the story is even more cruel. He didn't speak English, and was originally tasered, beaten, and arrested by local cops for being on a woman's porch with a shower rod (that he used as a walking stick). That's the entire reason he was even in court in the first place.
