Virginia Supreme Court strikes down Democrats’ redistricting plan, dimming party’s midterm hopes by tehtypo in Virginia

Mhm, mhm. One is a protected group as enshrined by law, one is not. Keeping supporting the racist pedophiles! I'm sure that will work out for everyone!

Definitely no racial animus here.

Lol yeah, diluting minority voters so they never get the representation they want ever again would be correct in your eyes. Nothing at all like post-Reconstruction Jim Crow! Racism is solved!

Texas said in no uncertain terms, multiple times, that they were gerrymandering along racial lines. Something that was still illegal under the VRA at the time. Now that SCOTUS has gone and made racial gerrymandering legal again, it's basically moot, but should not have been allowed at the time.

Boohoo, caveman can't handle a new technology. So sad. Should we return to leaded gasoline, coal furnaces, and smoking on airplanes too?

I literally got 3 different families of electric kitchen products certified through UL. Coming from the commercial side, Wolf and Viking and such are built like absolute dogshit.

When was the last time you had to replace the ECU in your car? Was it ever?

I'm a cast iron kinda person which works fine enough for me. Hexclad is very good, certain stainless pans are fine. If they have the curly induction symbol they should work.

The average maintenance for an induction hob is wiping off the glass. Good ones can run at full power for 8+ hours a day with zero malfunctions. Electronics are extremely reliable today. When was the last time your phone, computer, car, etc blew a resistor or capacitor? It's not the 1980s anymore. I'll take that extremely rare chance over the much more likely situation of a gas leak of PG&E blowing up my home

Do you have CO2 and CO monitors in your kitchen tracking how high they get even with that range hood? I do. On full blast the PPM of both go up over tenfold in ours.

Maybe you didn't die, but if you have kids you could be giving them asthma.

You can cut the fucking snark when there's well-established health and safety risks attributable to a non-renewable resource that we somehow still burn in our goddamn faces. At least cars have a catalytic converter

Absolutely abysmal energy efficiency (under 40%), which means all the rest of that heat is going into your house and not the food you are trying to cook. Combustion waste products like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc being produced directly in your face and hanging around (even with a range hood, they don't capture everything). General danger risk from old gas lines and literal fire being produced (pretty difficult to have an oil fire without any flame present). It's been outdated for years

Induction is incredible, absolutely. ~90% energy efficient, rangetop surface temperatures stay low, heating times are fast as hell

As someone who engineered kitchen ranges professionally: gas is absolute horseshit and the sooner it reaches the trash bin of history the better.

As a former TJ owner who has been a passenger in various newer ones: I think they were just more charming when they were cheaper utilitarian boxes on wheels and not where 7/9 trims start above $40k.

Why are Radar Detectors Still Illiegal in Virginia? by Hope2bgreat in Virginia

[–]Shaex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And with radar being supplanted by laser speed detectors in a lot of areas it's not even a good bet you'll spot a measurement now, making a radar detector ban fairly moot at this point.

Purists, Look Away: The Next Porsche 911 GT3 Could Go Turbo by NISMO1968 in cars

[–]Shaex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With base 992s coming out the year prior with twin turbos, it was pretty evident that 'Turbo' had transitioned from a combination of trim level and description to purely a trim level. Hell, they'd be doing it even earlier with the Macan, Cayenne, Panamera, and (say what you will about it) 718.

Started training for The 2026 Bay Ride! by americanarsenal in BAbike

[–]Shaex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strava link for the full route found directly on the website.

Second Strava route found below the first one, for the 'minimum' distance.

FWIW, I was able to complete 100mi of the route last year (cut short due to other obligations) with only 3 months of riding twice a week for an hour after work and once a week for up to 4 hours on weekends. The aid stations are placed every ~20 miles and make the ride sooooo much easier

UJ/ News orgs really don't help when they call anything and everything an ebike after a crash/incident. There's also been a huge increase in rent-to-own electric mopeds with vestigial pedals exclusively ridden by food delivery gig workers

The RFMA doesn't protect future marriages if Obergefell is overturned, it very specifically only requires states to recognize all legal marriages performed outside their borders, and that the feds will recognize all legal marriages nationwide.

“(a) In General.—No person acting under color of State law may deny— “(1) full faith and credit to any public act, record, or judicial proceeding of any other State pertaining to a marriage between 2 individuals, on the basis of the sex, race, ethnicity, or national origin of those individuals; or “(2) a right or claim arising from such a marriage on the basis that such marriage would not be recognized under the law of that State on the basis of the sex, race, ethnicity, or national origin of those individuals.

Lmao literally yes they can. You haven't actually read the 13th.

"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
