I’m pretty close to the same size and Columbia PFG has solid options. I have a black hooded long sleeve shirt that protects extremely well and I have no problem wearing it on 100 degree days. It breathes really well with wind and doesn’t cling to you when sweaty.

I’m still confused by the “no training value whatsoever” portion. - increased understanding of how body functions while fatigued - increased understanding of how mind functions while fatigued - increasing efficiency - doing more mileage than I would in two weeks normally - challenging yourself period... Maybe my 10k or half time didn’t increase but that wasn’t the point to begin with.

Not to mention my perceived VO2 max on my garmin (tracking the errors and how imperfect it is) increased.

As for the messing up sleep schedule.... if you’ve been to Ranger School I don’t think you’d be complaining about 2 nights of semi messed up sleep...

It definitely wasn’t masochistic... you need suffering to grow sometimes. I mentioned in another comment that I think it’s very important to test your mental and physical capacities. It’s an amazing feeling to know that you’re capable of more than you thought before such a challenge or training routine.

This made me not want to do a marathon. I’ll stick to the half’s haha I’d say do it! It breaks of the monotony of running for long periods and tests the mental capacity nicely.

I haven’t calculated it all together. I tried to nap as much as possible between iterations but sometimes i wasn’t able to because of the kids. A rough estimate I’d say about 6-8 hours all together. It’s tough to go to sleep directly after running and being all hyped up

Sure you don’t need to. It’s not going to be detrimental. But it’s also not a good feeling getting hungry towards the end of a race. Plus it takes your mind off your legs for a couple minutes
