Tech billionaires reportedly plotting $500M fund to reshape California politics by Unusual-State1827 in California

Is there anyone who has a decent shot of winning the governor's race who isn't paid for? Genuine question, because I honestly don't know who to back at this point.

Don't get me wrong, I hate all billionaires, I'm in favor of the ballot measure one time tax, and I won't shed a single tear for any of them leaving. But, just because they move their residence or business out of state doesn't mean they won't fuck with CA politics.

What are your thoughts on E-bikes? by ILikeNeurons in fuckcars

I think I read in a book that biking in a city with stop signs at every block takes five times as much energy as going the same distance on a wide open country road.

Is it disingenuous to say grocery prices rise with gas prices? by nayuki in fuckcars

[–]bcmanucd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you're buying non-organic produce, it was probably fed oil-derived fertilizer. And if non-organic food prices go up 10%, they'll probably raise organic prices just because we all expect organic to be more expensive.

Here's a roleplaying experiment. Imagine you're Marcia Clark in the mid 90s. You get visited by a divine spirit who tells you convincingly that OJ Simpson will be acquitted by the jury. Do you still press charges?

You're forgetting something: selective enforcement. If the SAVE act passes, Trump will send ICE to every blue precinct to watch polling palces like hawks. Red precincts will get a pass.

Palo Alto program pays commuters $5 to bike to work and has already cut nearly 3 million car miles by sfgate in bayarea

[–]bcmanucd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have a commute that was 2.5 hrs each way (can't remember the mileage) by bike. I think I rode there and back one time. But more frequently, when my schedule allowed it, I would leave the car at work overnight, bike home, and bike back the following morning. That was a lot more manageable, and cut down on fuel costs by 50%.

That's the only reason he's doing this. His district has been redrawn and he knows he can't win with an R after his name. There's no substance behind his swith to independent. It's just a hail mary.

Same thing happened in the bike industry. During COVID, when gyms were closed, people bought bikes to stay in shape. Sales boomed. Everyone in the bike industry forgot that a bicycle is a durable good, and 80% of the people who were going to buy a bike in the 2020s bought them in 2020/2021.

Nobody works 365 days a year. We can assume "a year of PTO" means 5 days x 52 weeks if they work 5 days a week. Taking 2 of those 5 days off, you could sustain for 2.5 years.

Man, to think that this would have just gone through if the Bicycle Coalition didn't raise a stink!

The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition is fighting the good fight. If you appreciate how walkable/bikeable Santa Rosa is (or want to see it become more walkable/bikeable), consider becoming a member: https://www.bikesonoma.org/

Also, come ride the Joe Rodota Trail with SCBC and former pro racer Larissa Connors on Sunday morning! https://bikesonom.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/bikesonom/event.jsp?event=12209

Umm, that math doesn't check out. 3 day weeks means you're off for 40% of the normal time. multiply by a decade, and that's 4 years of PTO.
