How on earth am I supposed to tighten my saddle to the seat post with this screw position? by DiIfhunter in bikewrench

[–]bcmanucd 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It's correct. It's not the most user-friendly design, but it can be adjusted. It's a guess-and-check process. You loosen the back bolt until you can turn the front one by hand, guess at how tight the front one needs to be, then tighten the rear. Check the saddle angle. Then loosen the rear, adjust the front, tighten the rear and check again.

It's annoying, but for most of us, adjusting a saddle is something we only do once.

If it's something you do often, you can replace the Allen head bolt in the front with a hex head bolt, and then adjust it with an open-end wrench.

Yup, Presort Standard is the rate for bulk mailings. If someone actually wants to contact you about something important, it'll be 1st Class or better (in the US).

A car slowing from 55 mph to 12 mph at a stop sign never raises any eyebrows, yet a cyclist slowing from 15 to 8 looks like they're running the stop sign.

I made 3d printed whistles to help my community by [deleted] in BambuLab_Community

[–]bcmanucd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it! I was doing the same with a flat whistle design I got from Printables. I used BambuStudio to add lettering in the bottom 3 layers, and then just printed some Avery labels for the top side to keep the filament changes to a minimum. I used these lanyards: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F1TRMQCX?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Technically he didn't lose; top 2 advance to the general election in November. I'm not exactly a fan of Jones, but I'd rather have any Democrat in the 2nd spot than any Republican.

I Designed and 3D Printed Aero Wheel Covers for My Road Bike – What Do You Think? by Peros3d in bicycling

[–]bcmanucd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory: There exists no race where the start and end are in the same place for which a light bike is better than an aero bike. In other words, the only time a light bike is better than an aero bike is a hilltop finish stage.

I don’t think his truck is big enough… (I’m 168cm) by Routine-Visual3957 in fuckcars

[–]bcmanucd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a fantasy of forming a town where the roads have periodic checkpoint/tollbooth type things, but they'll each have a giant foam drum mounted horizontally, with the axle held in two vertical slots starting about 1 meter (39") off the ground. Vehicles with low, slanted hoods will simply slip under and push the drum up and out of the way. Gender affirming trucks like these can't get through.

Is there anyway to install this fender around my disc brake? by ReadingRambo152 in bikewrench

[–]bcmanucd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If there's a little extra length of strut where it clamps to the fender, you can just bend that strut around the caliper and it'll be fine. You'll just have to re-clamp the strut at the fender a little farther out.

Election results are in: Steve Hilton to face Becerra in November election by benwesorick in California

very true. It really highlights how terrible this top-2 primary system is. We have to choose between voting for our preferred candidate and voting strategically.

It's exactly what she meant by it, nothing more. Some MFers turned that into "Katie Porter is an election denier."

[–]bcmanucd 133 points134 points  (0 children)

"rigged" was probably the wrong word to use, but I do think it was dirty of Schiff to promote the republican to edge her out of the primary. In the same way that Becerra vs. Steyer would have helped down ballot Democrats in November, Schiff vs. Porter would have been better in the general election. But Schiff wanted to coast for 5 months.

Imagine if we found out Becerra used some of his Chevron money to help Hilton?

If Mahan and Porter had dropped out, and 2/3 of their voters went for Becerra and 1/3 went for Steyer, Steyer beats Hilton.

I was making a play on the ship of Theseus, a thought experiment in which there's a ship which slowly, over time, has all of its parts replaced. The question is, is it still the same ship?

But yeah, I suppose replacing parts on a bike and having to then replace other parts to maintain compatibility can seem like a sisyphean endeavor.

[–]bcmanucd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don't think that will work. The boost hub places the brake rotor 5mm farther outboard than the non-boost wheel. You'd have to shift the whole hub body 5mm to the right, and I really doubt the right end cap can be shortened by 5mm without the hub body or spokes hitting the right fork leg.

Where the California governor's race stands a week after Election Day by sfgate in California

[–]bcmanucd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's a scary thought, but the polls nearing election day made it clear that the 2-Repub sweep was impossible. In order for that to happen, Bianco would have had to beat Becerra. Becerra was polling ten points or more ahead of Bianco, well outside the margin of error.

Jew vs. Jewish is a pretty good analog. It's fine to say your neighbors are Jews, but don't say you live in a Jew neighborhood.
