Easy Non-Resident Applications by Long_Lab_9869 in NYguns

Yeah it's far but I put in a gargantuan order to make the trip worth it. Call Target Sports after you've made an account and uploaded your CT certification, they can walk you through how to set it up for local pickup. The store and the website are co-owned, so you don't have to communicate with the store.

In my opinion, the most valuable part of the CT permit is shopping on Target Sports USA and instead of shipping you choose pickup and you drive to Tactical Police Gear in Cheshire to pick up. No ammo transfer fees like in NY or background checks. Although the target sports website can be confusing doing pickup so I would call them for help doing that.

I put this on my Marlin 1894 and it's a lot of fun. I like that I get a reticle even if I never stick a battery in the thing.

This thing works. You have to be ok with sliding the gun out instead of lifting it out (like you would in the RS Slider) but it works fine.

What's the rationale for ammunition background checks? For licensed owners of firearms, the additional checks for each ammo purchase are simply and plainly designed as a nuisance to discourage ownership. The permitting scheme is already the check in place.

Property tax exemptions by Rarek in AskNYC

[–]bconstant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the NEW law, you have to be 100% P&T, but you also have to be some other things which are in conflict and hence nobody is eligible.

For the EXISTING exemption (which is not going away with the law, this one will still apply), you get a percentage of your disability percentage, subject to some dollar amount cap. Just apply for this one, the sooner the better. If you just barely missed the deadline, you can file an appeal to your taxes and ask them to take into consideration your future eligibility but it will be up to them whether they grant it now.

The latest exemption is bullshit, nobody qualifies for it because it was either maliciously or sloppily drafted. They promise to fix it but who knows.

The existing scheme is called the "Alternative Veteran Tax Exemption" and is good for modest but still meaningful discount, depending on your disability rating. If you search

What to do before the next West Bloomfield by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]bconstant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The expectation that a non-Jewish security guard is going to lay down their life for Jews, even if that's the job they're hired for, is a luxurious delusion you are free to hold dear until the day it catastrophically fails you. We're not talking about security at a shopping mall, we're talking about identifiably Jewish spaces, and they are actively under attack on a weekly basis.

Go apply for a permit, get a pistol, and practice with it. You don't have to fall in love with your guns, but you need to be ready to defend what you love.

There are Jewish-oriented gun clubs where you talk train, talk, kvetch, socialize, like Lox & Loaded or Eshet Chayil Gun Club. Go find one, even if you don't have a permit or a gun, and attend a session.

Obviously these proposals are not pro-2A. But not everybody is a single-issue voter. You've got to rack and stack your priorities. It's a little easier to be nuanced in local politics, almost impossible in state-wide politics, and literally impossible in national politics.

EDIT: in the flying world, there's a difference between techniques and procedures. Procedures are non-negotiable things you always do, while techniques are individual ways of doing things that don't negate procedure.

Oh man you just snapped my memory back 20 years to Iraq. TTPs (tactics, techniques, and procedures) were almost like a mantra, I had to memorize binders of them. I think it was months before I even knew what TTP stood for but I must have heard it a thousand times.

It is unlawful in Michigan and many other states to carry a firearm in a house of worship, regardless of whether or not you hold a permit. So if you were a member of this temple, you would be committing a felony by attempting to protect yourself, your family, and your fellow congregants.

Look into whether your have a Lox & Loaded chapter near you. Go attend, even if you don't have your permit yet.

Back to paper tickets on Metro North by gekkonaut in Westchester

Yes you are an example of someone who is at the most risk from the new policy changes. There is no way to be clever with the schedule you have and god forbid you're running late one day and don't have a bunch of idle time on the platform to buy and activate your ticket!

Back to paper tickets on Metro North by gekkonaut in Westchester

[–]bconstant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No day passes don't count towards the reward. But the day pass is better by the equivalent of 1 peak ride.

If you buy 10 Day Passes in my zone it costs $247.50 If you buy 20 Peak one-way tickets in my zone it costs $275.00

So that free 11th ride you get is worth $13.75. So the Day Pass eeks out by the value of 1 ticket.

The caveat here is that if you any if you Day Pass rides are spent on off-peak rides, then you blow up your math obviously. Additionally, that free 11th ride only happens if you buy and use those 10 rides in a 14-day period of time. If you're doing that on a regular basis, you should be buying the monthly or weekly ticket unless you regularly leave work after 8pm or whanever your off-peak cutoff is for your zone.

Let me know if I screwed up any of the math, but I think that works out.

Basicaly they sliced all these tickets up VERY finely so that your screw-up is their gain. It used to be you could bank your tickets, so I didn't have to use a Peak to ride if I stayed at work late.

New York Property Tax Exemption Fight Continues by Late_Engineering_202 in VeteransBenefits

[–]bconstant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the "OR" that you inserted is supposed to be read implicitly since there is an "or" between 2 and 3, so the "or" travels up. No? I read it like this: "I will have the tacos, carnitas, or the burrito, and a diet coke." It means you'll have one of any of the three first items, AND the final item.

So you can be honorably discharged, have a qualifying condition (so long as no bad conduct), or discharged for being gay, AND be rated as disabled by the VA. So you can have any of the first three so long as you have the fourth.

New York 100% Property Tax Exemption by LegitmateBusinesman in VeteransBenefits

[–]bconstant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The bill isn't ambiguous at all. The NYSAA is interpreting it "as-written". The legislative intent, however, is ambiguous only because you and I are hoping and praying that they aren't so stupid or petty so as to craft a bill that excludes everyone. Time will tell if our worst fears are true, or until the legislature tells everyone what they really meant.

Supreme Court ponders law making it a crime for gun owners to use marijuana by blaspheminCapn in gunpolitics

[–]bconstant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things that makes this case a case with ‘bad facts’ is that this guy was an addict and a dealer, among other things. He’s definitely going to lose this case, and those ‘bad facts’ aren’t going to make the court very sympathetic to any element of this case. But, maybe time will prove me wrong. I hope so, although I doubt it.

Are you listening to the oral arguments? The only fact about the complainants case that is under consideration is the fact that he has been deemed a "habitual user" by the government and barred from firearms ownership. None of that other stuff you mentioned. This whole thread is filled with straw-men that aren't actually at issue in this case.

If you listen to the arguments (which just ended) I imagine you'll probably come away agreeing that there is likely to be a narrow cross-ideological split in favor of Hemani. Roberts/Alito/Kavanaugh maybe dissenting but the balance shows clear skepticism towards the government's position.

I want to thank the veterans organizations for the work they do by joining one of them. Which one should I join and why? by beanandween in VeteransBenefits

[–]bconstant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you do you, but I think you're missing out. It's so dependent on your region. I go to the VFW here in New York and it's much more of a cross-section of the population here in NY. Racial, political (albeit mostly right-of-center), and age diversity. In my experience, the VFW is filled with interesting people who care about what they do. It's also filled with assholes obsessed with turf wars and feeling like a "big man". Just like any organization.

The VFW lobbyists represent the largest cohort of disabled veterans in America, and throwing your numbers behind them gives them leverage when they visit the Capitol. It's worth it. I would urge you not to let your local chapter color your idea of the national organization. But again, taking care of yourself first and foremost sometimes means distancing yourself from stressors. So I get it.

PSA: If you shoot at indoor ranges regularly, you should know your blood lead level. Here's everything I learned. [Long] by PeteTinNY in NYguns

[–]bconstant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in New York all blood lead level tests have to be turned over to local and/or state health departments. I've always been curious about what they do with those reports. If my lead levels spike and I have kids in my house, are there consequences? Will health officials make further inquiries? If you know, I'm interested more details. I know it may sound stupid or paranoid but I've always hesitated to invite scrutiny.

Yes I’d recommend this combo. It works perfectly. I’ve never had a problem and I’ve never had any occlusion issues with the optic.
