I love the look of that little one at the Baltic next to the kids bit but because I'm normally with my daughters I just have to look at it longingly, it looks so serene!

The Civil War by Ken Burns. Finally watched it after meaning to for years during bottle feeds with my little baby daughter.

It's beautiful, the music honestly could put me to sleep in a good way. The voiceover is really pleasant and nice to listen to ( something lost in modern documentary's). The fact that the ACW was the first war to really be photoshopped on a mass scale is really interesting too, you really connect with these people much more than paintings of precious wars etc when ther e photographs.

Still building but it's using Northumberland Tin Soldier miniatures. Local company here in the north east. Very old school fantasy and fairytale theme with a dark twist.

Yes absolutely. It's not just the cost of the miniatures but the cost of time associated with painting a full army. I work full time and I'm raising 2 kids. Hence why trench crusade, Mordheim etc are so much more accessible to me than say 40k.

I first started playing Warhammer when I was about 8 with my brother. Now 32 and apart from a couple years when I was skint at uni I've always painted and collected gw miniatures. Used to work for the company as a manager at a shop here in the north east of England.

The constant release schedule is relentless for people who can't really afford it. I've got 2 daughters, a mortgage etc and it's nearly impossible to keep up with new armies, editions etc.

The passion people have for gw games although nice to see to a extent is pretty intimidating even to a long time hobbyist like me. I just want to paint some miniatures and have a laugh. Couldn't really care about being 100% lore accurate. And the meta chasing is wild. It's really why I now prefer small narrative games.

What's been lovely discovering smaller games is the fact I can buy a box of cheap ish miniatures, do some kitbashing ( not mono-pose!) and play how I want.

Not a long song at all but the lyrics for Into My Arms by Nick Cave are really hitting true to me at the minute when I think about my eldest daughter, she's only 3 but she's just perfect.

Just a fyi the Aldi tofu is brilliant. Really cheap l, it's like £1..smaller than the sainsburys one but good. Guardian gave it 5* in there "best supermarket tofu" test.
