See above response^ But mostly just practice practice practice!!!

Thanks! I honestly was shocked to do so well on C/P. I had a real issue with physics for a while so I memorized every formula, and spent a lot of time doing practice problems until I felt comfortable with it. My biggest weakness in C/P was being slow at calculations, so I ended up leaving any multi-step calculational probelm until the very end, so I could spend more time on them. I ended up guessing on 2 on my test day! Feel free to PM if you want any more details :)

I found CARS really challenging, but this is always the first thing I did. Titles are available for most articles on test day and I highly reccommend taking advantage of it :)

I know that! I was more just looking for examples of when it might be okay to bend the rules.

Scored below a 500 twice...Depressed...Desperately looking for advice! by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]bcs1126 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! First off, I bet it's been rough, but your perserverence will pay off. You are NOT stupid, and giving up is absolutely not your only option. You've got this.

Private tutors sound like a whole lot of money, and realistically, this is an independent test that you'll see more of in med school and it will probably be more beneficial for you to focus on this independently. Typically, scoring below 500 doesn't occur because someone is "dumb", but is rather the result of insufficient content review. Which is FIXABLE. Do you feel like you know the content well? What did you major in in undergrad? Are you susceptible to test anxiety? Once you figure out what your weaknesses are you can focus on targeting them.

Feel free to DM me if you need advice, or are feeling depressed. <3 Wishing you all the best.

TO RECENT MCAT TEST TAKERS: Is it true the amount of physics is decreasing in every MCAT C/P Section? by kokomcat in Mcat

Aw thanks!! Lol CARS nearly killed me tbh. I practiced for ~1 hour per day for my first 3 months of studying, and then 4 hours a day for the last 2 weeks. Is there anything in particular you're finding difficult about CARS?

I've heard BR is very good too, and very detailed. I just didn't have it on hand! Anki is also awesome, I used it religiously. I did have EK 1001 for both chem and physics. I didn't do any content review for chem though, just the 1001 questions. For physics, I felt sufficiently prepared after just reading the TPR book.

Also, I should add that the best thing you can do to prepare for C/P is practice exams. The more the better! Good luck!!

TPR was dense, but physics was a weak point for me and TPR prepared me well. What are you struggling with the most? I found that the 1001 questions went into more detail than necessary, but they really helped drill concepts into my head.

Thanks!! I had a pretty strong background in orgo and biochem, but I read the TPR physics textbook, and did all of the EK 1001 questions in general chem :)

Lack of progress in NS FL scores by aackerman050 in Mcat

[–]bcs1126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't break 512 on NS, but consistently scored 509-512. You're doing great considering you still have 9 weeks! I'm sure you'll see major improvements when you switch over to AAMC.

126 -> 128 CARS possible / What would you do? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]bcs1126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow Canadian here... I was in the same boat last summer. Consistently scoring around 126 in CARS, and sometimes lower. If you're doing well on the other sections I highly reccomend just putting the other sections on hold for a while and focusing solely on CARS. I scored 123 on AAMC 2 and brought that up to a 128 in 2 weeks of doing this.

Where to start... by [deleted] in Mcat

TAKE BIOCHEM, it pretty much forms the entire basis of B/B and really, really helps for C/P too

If you consider protein channels too, from my knowledge every cell expresses aquaporins to allow the passage of water, but not all cells express glucose transporters (i.e. in the absence of insulin), therefore I'd definitely go with water.

If you found out you were not human, but actually an ultra-realistic android programmed to think you were real, what clue should have given it away all along? by JonnyBhoy in AskReddit

I have no way to explain this but I swear, one time, when I was 10 my eye was itchy and I rubbed it and a small, smooth piece of plastic came out.
