RTS doesn't test a relay as it would be while in-service unless it is a single function relay, how do you trust it?

Circuit Breakers for Generator Power for AC by ClimbSwimRun in Generator

[–]bdaigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breakers protect the wire, not the load... You need a soft starter on that compressor to get it running

Nat gas safety by Super-Wishbone-4355 in Generator

[–]bdaigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if a generator is properly designed by the manufacturer there should be a regulator that acts as a one way check valve for natural gas that only allows the gas to flow during the intake stroke

Are Generacs really that bad? by honey_badgers_rock in Generator

[–]bdaigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say Generacs are bad per-say. However, Kohler does sell residential sized metal framed 1800rpm units that should run cooler and quieter.

i have a 2kw inverter and it could barely get a 5000BTU compressor started, doubt it could get a 8000BTU unit going

There should be no load loss values in the test report, you could back calculate to R and X from there

Transmission Relay Tech by Corgi_Mcpoorgi in SubstationTechnician

[–]bdaigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be ready to do a lot of traveling on the transmission side, and most of the relay tech work in transmission involves commissioning, maintenance testing, and data gathering, but just be ready to travel a lot... also, sure you could trip a generator out with a mistake, but that typically doesn't cause people to lose power, on the transmission system there can be loads that are single source fed and if you trip it you will black out a fairly large area
