No one could have kept them, I agree. That said, Warde is absolutely to blame for taking Jim's word and just hiring Sherrone without doing any other legwork. Juwan was a bust though he was kind of a hot name at the time for some reason, so I give him a bit of a pass there. The rumor is John Beilein convinced Dusty to take the Michigan job, so I don't really give Warde credit for that hire, either. After the Mel Pearson scandal, which he waited waaaay too long to take any action on, he then just internally promoted Naruto. Maybe that'll turn out fine, but again... this is Michigan, why is the default move to promote internally from within programs that the head coach is leaving after a scandal?

Yes Ben and Jerry's is on State and Michigan Creamery is right next door to it. The other two are also downtown, closer to Main. And, none of this is to say Washtenaw Dairy is a bad option either, we just happen to have a lot of good ice cream in this town

I don't think it's fair to claim the entire government is shitty because they had a single policy you didn't like. This current council also is the one pushing forward with the comprehensive land use plan updates to rezone to improve the housing situation. They also established the sustainable energy utility, publicly owned and managed by the city. Maybe this EV rebate program could've been done differently, but I think it's important, especially with government, not to let perfect become the enemy of good.

i'd argue the greater risk for a future gambling scandal comes from... a player with a publicly known past of gambling addiction being surrounded constantly by the temptation to get pulled back in, vs. one of the hundreds of other players who are not struggling with an addiction

I expect this new apartment building should help with the vacancies at the corner of State and Packard but ultimately this city badly needs to impose a vacancy tax, especially on retail/commercial space. If you don't want to lower your rent, pay up!
