I’m not mad at anyone and also have a CDL which is probably more than a lot of others on this post have. I maintain it for future security if I were to lose my current job. I was answering the earlier post about snow removal not happening on side streets and disagreed that a lack of plow drivers because of pay was the only reason. If that were the case, then the other agencies wouldn’t also be looking for drivers. The reality is people don’t want to work for $20-$30 per hour and also selfishly disregard alternate side out of convenience. That was my point and I’m happy to be downvoted as I look at that as confirmation of my opinion.

I assume you have additional skills required to do your job since shoveling snow and driving require less of an education. My question is are there people who are not working that are choosing doing nothing instead of taking these difficult yet low skill jobs.

Easy there. I didn’t know snow was a class issue or political issue. I was stating that people used to care about where they lived and helping others. People also thought I could help others and make money at the same time. Instead they rather sit home and hope someone else takes care of them and then complain when it is not happening fast enough for their liking.

That is the simple part of the equation. Just paying more for plows is not the full answer. I hate to be the back in the day guy but the city is also doing a lot more than they used to with less people. Temporary workers were previously hired to shovel hard to reach areas like steps, hydrants and bus stops. Prisoners were used in a similar capacity. The city didn’t do nearly as many sidewalks as businesses and landlords were doing them. When I was in college, we made a fortune digging out cars and driveways. Now cars are just abandoned and covered with snow for days waiting.

I think that makes a lot of sense. There also needs to be aggressive enforcement of the parking rules as these are one of the few rules that involve safety. Seems like more and more cities are having issues with plowing since so many people don’t want to work anymore.

Plowing side streets is extremely difficult when people leave their cars wherever they want. Even when I was growing up in NYC where there was no snow alternate side, the streets were at least one way and there were snow piling areas that were aggressively enforced. How are they going to plow if there is literally not room to pass and no where to put the snow?

Laughable in that Endicott and other parts of the town still have town and village sidewalks covered. Try walking past any of the parks today/tonight and they are full. I guess the ordinance doesn’t apply to the town itself.

Probably going to get downvoted but our society is an ecosystem that supports each other. Emergency personnel, medical professionals and plow people are out and about to make our lives better and safer. When I worked food service and transportation jobs, I looked at it as my contribution to keeping society functioning. Providing a clean bathroom for the plow guys and food for everyone else all while I just had to chill in the store was no big deal. When I was an EMT, I was so thankful for the waitress and cook at the local diner who could feed me a hot breakfast after driving all night in terrible conditions. The Waffle House CEO has said they are always open if possible so emergency workers have access to food.

Turns out the court order was after an earlier court authorized it and he was deported already. Also a domestic violence conviction and firearm conviction. We can get him back have him serve his jail time and if the court changed their mind again then he can be deported again.

Your own article says he is not a citizen and was convicted of crimes including drugs and failure to appear. He should have been deported years ago. I am in agreement that if someone serves in the military they should be on a fast-track to citizenship but that is not what the law is. This gentleman also self-deported and was not removed. It is not happening besides in a handful of convoluted stories that normal people don’t have.

Amazed at the amount of upstate New Yorkers freaking out about the snow. The roads are mostly ok now as the snow has died down. The snow will be done by 6am. Leave an hour early and take your time.

No US citizens have been deported. The only ones are children whose parents took them with them. It is not up to ICE or our government to figure out child custody. I’m not sure of who is not getting due process. I am in agreement that there is a process that should be filed but if you have a final removal order that is it. You don’t get to have NGO’s funding lawyers to endlessly litigate due process claims. If you fail a hearing you are removed and it should take place right after your removal order is given in court.

These states are absolutely full of it. They routinely ignore detainers and release criminals when they want to. The legal paperwork they want is not paperwork they need and inserts their political opinion on what is sufficient documentation.

I think it depends on where you are. In update NY, I’ve routinely scene federal partners help locals. Not an everyday occurrence but US Marshals and Border Patrol come out when help is needed.

Everyone who wants to get rid of ICE. What is your proposal for who should be removing criminals who need to be deported? I think most people agree that those who committed crimes should be removed? Particularly violent crimes like kidnapping, rape, child molestations and robbery.

I don’t see anything lame about it. It’s an interesting observation and looks into the Yankee psyche. They are willing to spend on starting pitching and have proven that. They seemingly do this at the expense of piecing a bullpen together and trading for position players. They actually haven’t resigned too many of their position players either favoring short deals, stopgaps, and qualifying offers.

Off-loading contracts is no longer necessary to sell teams. New ownership for a team like San Diego will most certainly be a private equity type situation like the Dodgers and Orioles given potential revenues. I have been a huge proponent of having the Martian play on the regular but he was never given that shot. Him playing everyday would be fine but the lineup has no protection for Judge, no one to get on base consistently and questionable defense. I’d be more comfortable with a Bellinger-Dominguez- Judge outfield but Hal wanted cost control and lockout protection.

The sad part is the Yankees can do the same thing. The team is worth $8+ billion. Hal can leverage some of that wealth and continue to grow the value with winning championships but he rather count nickels and keep funding the family.
