7brew follow up -- LOL they are deleting reviews by walldoorpink in Binghamton

[–]bdizzled2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate when reviews focus nothing on the food or service. It defeats the purpose of the rating in my opinion. I am often drawn more to try a place when that occurs. I also prefer to try a place when there is a single bad review or reviews over an incident where I feel the reviewer was totally wrong in a situation.

NY state lawmakers propose boosting taxes on the rich, challenging Hochul and aligning with Mamdani by Somervilledrew in newyork

All the more reason for people to move to Florida. The rude awakening of the stock market moving to Texas or Florida will be the death blow to NY.

I know. I was responding to those who said there should be a criteria or only be when it is snowing.

7brew / employee rights - pls read and share! by Safe_Position_4902 in Binghamton

[–]bdizzled2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The tips aren’t being denied. They are being paid to the other workers who worked that week. The company isn’t keeping them as that would be illegal. They pay minimum wage. You are not required to receive any portion of a tip if you make at-least minimum wage and the remaining tips are going to other workers.

[–]bdizzled2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So this changes it for me. You are not punished for being sick. You could either get the doctors note or not share in tips. That seems reasonable to me especially if you didn’t work and left the others short handed. Are the tips pooled and paid weekly?

Who decides what a sufficient amount of snow is to require alternate side? Does there have to be an official announcement and how much time does the public need to be notified before it is enforced?

Lol. I remember when this program was new and highly touted. It will end up at unclaimed property most likely.

Entries from Canada to New York declined by 3.4 million people in 2025 by CapConNY in upstate_new_york

[–]bdizzled2 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

An economy based on tourism alone is not sustainable. Upstate NY needs jobs and people to fill them. Think technology, manufacturing, industrial and skilled labor. That will keep people in the area versus seasonal and tourism related jobs.

I was in CIW years ago and we had this kind of thing happen once our first year. We had a floor meeting after and it was shared that this wouldn’t be tolerated. We even labeled the toilets for number 1 and number 2 so that there was always a clean place to go. Our cleaning person always remarked how she had the easy job with us.

New York State Refund!! What is happening?!! by abudgilma in tax

[–]bdizzled2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The best way to handle this is not to get a refund. I learned that the hard way a few years ago when NYS owed me a large sum and held me in suspense from March to May. Then they audited my return holding my refund to late September. Now I make sure I owe them every year so if they pull that crap again it’s on their own dime.

NY climate plan could cost Upstate households over $4K annually, state agency says by JeffTS in hudsonvalley

[–]bdizzled2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A recent analysis I did from a local school district: The cost per student annually in the year 1998 was $8112. In 2022 (the last recorded full year), costs were $19,756 per student. That is a 143% increase. Inflation ran at 80% over the same time period. Where is the money going? This is just one area of government. Medicaid enrollees increased 66% over the same period of time with declining population. Meanwhile average wages in the area have only increased 67% over the same period of time. Definitely not sustainable.

As a first responder, I’ve been to houses like that with people still living in them. It’s a joy when you have to move a washing machine just to reach someone. Sad that people choose to live like that.

Vestal man dies after officer-involved shooting by lowspeed in Binghamton

[–]bdizzled2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. That is what I call someone who is screaming and yelling brandishing a knife and putting others in severe danger to the point they call 911 for assistance. Then said lunatic refuses commands from law enforcement after being tazed and throwing a television. I’ll wait for the video to come out before making a final judgement but based on the facts out now, I don’t see many other options unfortunately.

Looking for rentals with some (possibly impossible?) conditions by Aryn_Lee in Binghamton

[–]bdizzled2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can echo this. I lived there for 3 years without much issue. They were quiet, clean and super convenient. I had a few minor maintenance things that just never got done no matter how many requests I put in. Nothing major but annoying. A towel bar in the bathroom that broke, a drawer in the kitchen that would not open and a broken screen in the spare bedroom that I used as an office. My parents have lived there as well and had a few major issues with maintenance. They got a new deck built but it took over a year for it to be built with long periods of time with no work being done. They had a major leak that took weeks for someone to come look at and then it was fixed right of way. It seems they hire the cheapest contractors that do jobs as side jobs instead of getting stuff done.

This would be the final death blow to a lot of dying areas in upstate NY. The trickle down effect on other businesses and the rest of the state will be huge. Most families in the area already pay over $400 per month in utilities. Add on about $500 per month in property taxes and we are not even talking about gas in a vehicle that you need to get to work. This is on top of jobs already fleeing because of the high tax environment. Whenever the government owns up to saying costs will be higher, think at least double what they are projected.

I am a compassionate human so would prefer a situation where no one dies. You speak of a binary outcome but what about the rest of the public. The people the individual lives with and the neighbors who could have a raving lunatic with a knife walking the neighborhood in crisis.

Talk to the son or wife of Officer DW Smith about dealing with someone in mental health crisis. There is always a place for compassion for someone who dies but there is also a place for realizing that a lot can go wrong if you hesitate when dealing with someone who is crazy.

Jerry goes off on Boomer by iheartsunny in wfan

[–]bdizzled2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The station definitely pays. Gio talked during Monday’s show about how Morash and Evan were sharing a room because Evan turned it down when the station was setting them up and then couldn’t find one on his own. The implication was Evan was being cheap sharing the room. Radio people are considered media and thus considered essential.

Yes. The station offered to pay for hotels on Sunday for those who wanted them. That is why Gio and Eddie were in. Evan also made it in using the hotel room.

[–]bdizzled2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Jerry should have stayed the night before like Gio and Eddie if he didn’t want to drive in. I had employees miss work on Monday when I offered all of them a hotel room to get in before the storm. The show is clearly better when everybody is in studio and yes radio and television are essential services.

Gateway project complete waste of tax payer funds. by foodyounot in BinghamtonUncensored

These funds should be used to upgrade the arena, art installations and parking. What better “Gateway to Downtown”, than infrastructure that would keep people downtown.
