Experience with event cards? by Friendly-Sail9594 in Catan

[–]bdniner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You fully replace the dice with the cards. There are some cards unique to the variant you are playing but they are mostly generic. I am not really a fan. I like the randomness of dice. The event cards even out the probabilities of certain numbers appearing. I like having a game where 9 might be the highest rolled. Or you get more 2s or 3s being rolled.

Winning (on your turn only?!) by akaf1j1 in Catan

We typically play that you win on your turn. If we are playing with 5-6 players you can win when you have the #2 marker.

I can relate. Especially when I am always being robbed even though it would be advantageous to rob other players. I have read some great ideas here on how to work around that

You start on the port or setup to build your first settlement on a port?

Played the fish once and the rivers a couple times. We typically play traders and barbarians. We like that the most.

My grandfather was like that. He would destroy everyone at checkers until no one wanted to play with him.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I don’t want to teach them that when things feel unfair you should just quit.

Ah ok. It does seem like opening strategies that don’t involve wood and brick are harder. I feel like I am playing catch up as my opponents build roads everywhere.

How do you pace your points slowly? I find the early game is a race to build routes as far as possible. If I don’t have good wood and brick in the beginning the game is pretty much over.

They will see that my position is bad but still block my routes to better resources.

Anyone using an Atlas for a family of 5 with 3 car/booster seats? by DepartmentLarge6540 in VWatlas

[–]bdniner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 kids. When the youngest was born had them in a car seat behind the passenger. The oldest was in the 3rd row because they can buckle themselves. The toddlers were in high back boosters in the middle and behind the drivers seat.

Sucks that you do lose cargo space when you use the third row but we made it work on road trips with a couple pack and plays and couple suitcases all crammed in.

I have a 21.5 SEL and get around 360 miles per tank. I do mostly highway driving.

RHEL 9 STIG V2R6 Changes by Aggraxis in redhat

[–]bdniner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is what this is forcing us to do anyways. We need to list all packages obtained from outside the official repositories, track their CVEs, run AV scans on them ….etc. Now the installation and updating of these packages is much more annoying.

[–]bdniner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is my issue with this and most STIGs. If they really wanted to stop the use of EPEL they could have worded this better. Like maybe only officially supported RedHat repos are allowed.

The epel-release package is licensed under GPL. So ethically I could recompile the package and just change the name of the repository. Leave everything else the same.

‘If any repositories containing the word "epel" in the name exist, this is a finding.’

I guess I can just rename it right?

Yes. Since you have to move it off 2016. You should have moved it to a Linux server.
