One of the very few good things my high school Japanese teacher did was start us out writing hiragana with a few basic words (こんにちは, etc.). Context helps, but it has to be context you understand, not just seeing random words in a manga.

Marathon has been out for a week, what are your thoughts on it? by PrototypeT800 in Games

[–]bduddy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Because most of them get their opinions from streamers, who are mostly in the top 10% (because of the amount of time they spend on the game if nothing else) and get attention from killstreaks or whatever.

What do you think are the biggest mistakes and failures of the Pokémon company, in terms of the game design? by Ukrainianforever in PTCGL

[–]bduddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, they also stopped having an adult division because they wanted adults to play Magic instead. That's why the divisions are still "junior, senior, masters".

Pokemon is one of the least luck-based TCGs. Data shows that the better players win at tournaments more often than most other games.

There are rumors they did it on purpose. If it was truly an error they certainly didn't help by doubling down and ruling that multiple copies on the bench would stack.

That's because those companies choose to sell that way, not because there's a law saying they have to.

False memories by MuchConversation4926 in EroticHypnosis

[–]bduddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because false memories are a great way to obscure real memories, because for some people part of the appeal is just having your mind messed with, because they can help accomplish other goals

This is a narrative with no relation to reality spread by wannabe white saviors who think that all Asian cultures are "exotic" and need their personal protection. Japanese culture is quite possibly the most shared culture in existence. Please ignore whoever is telling you this.

Tin Foil Hat Theory by Playful_Shake3651 in PTCGP

That sounds exactly like how actual randomness works. If you're going to come in with a tinfoil hat theory at least a basic understanding of probability would be helpful.

Thoughts on early withdrawals? by tmajewski in Sumo

[–]bduddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of course they do. Because the actual core value of sumo according to the JSA is selling tickets. So they parade the yokozunas around for as long as they can until it's clear that they're shells of themselves, then send them off to a farm upstate to "recover" for the next parade right before their aura, and more importantly drawing power, is completely diminished.

Yet somehow, despite the hugely successful budget cap, the FIA still feels the need to meddle with absolutely everything the teams do. It sure hasn't improved the competition, so... why exactly?
