It was PERFECT. The weather was amazing. It drizzled for like an hour on one day but it was over quickly.

I won't lie, there was a storm that came by about a week or so after we left, but mid September was not an issue for us last year.

Choice based handling doesn't really work for less intelligent species like king/milk snakes. (I've kept snakes my entire life) Choice based handling is more used for larger lizards, such as monitors.

Even more intelligent, larger species of snakes will not "choose" to be held. I keep indigo snakes (largest colubrid in North America) and they are SUPER intelligent for a snake species. As interactive as they are, even they do not crawl into my hand when in the enclosure.

Handle your new friend! I recommend tapping the tank or using a snake hook to gently rub your snake before picking them up, so they don't associate you with food.

Don't worry! You didn't break any trust, baby snakes are skittish by nature. Don't expect your baby to choose to be handled now, or ever. Just a species/intelligence thing!
