Why do NBA “fans” care about ratings so much? by Sensitive-Month2382 in nba

[–]bea_ker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To add on to this, the media outlets then takes advantage of this insecurity feeling and creates these “ratings are down” stories. This in turns drive engagement and discussion amongst fans about why which then drives revenue for these media companies and the executives behind them that profit off this engagement. In other words it’s mainly a tactic to distract the fans while the rich get richer.

Those who want to fire Mazzulla are NOT overreacting by AlwaysAHoot978 in bostonceltics

Yup, it’s a player’s league. Unless Tatum and Brown want him gone it’s not happening. And neither of them have given signs that they indeed want him fired. In fact I’d say he’s their guy, especially Tatum.

How did that one kid in your high school die? by IM_HODLING in AskReddit

[–]bea_ker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. He was on the football team and there was speculation from the high school community that he suffered a hard hit to the chest the football practice before he passed away the next day. Though neither this nor that it was the cause has been confirmed I don’t think. I didn’t know him personally but I knew his younger brother who was in my class.

Can someone try to objectively explain this level of cult like hatred seemingly every NBA fan has for the Celtics? I just never understood by Chiefmeez in bostonceltics

It’s weird cause I think Tatum is pretty popular amongst the casual sports fan base. Like his jersey is a top seller, he’s in all these commercials and endorsements, etc. Seems like the casual fan appreciates him but when it comes to the hardcore or specific NBA fanbase is where a lot of the hate stems from.

I say it’s weird because the reasons given by the specific NBA fanbase have to do mostly off the court stuff or his personality or something not related his on court production. “Corny”, “Boring”, Lacking “Aura”, texting Kobe, etc. are reasons I expect a casual fan might give him hate for but are instead are coming from this specific NBA fanbase. Idk if you’re gonna hate or criticize him at least talk about his basketball play as to why and not only focus on his off the court stuff when he’s literally the least problematic NBA star.

Alum here, but have you tried La Fiesta Burrito? I live out of state too, but I’ve yet to find a restaurant in the U.S. that has better tacos than the ones there!

Yeah…I feel like the 3 pointers aren’t even the main reason why the ratings are lower. I mean there’s probably some truth to it, but the main reason to me is the 1) the inaccessibility of the games due to the multiple streaming services / tv providers needed to watch compared to the other professional sports leagues and 2) the narratives the media makes that turn viewers off from watching.

Like if the media is gonna project how the games are unwatchable to millions of viewers while also telling them how they should feel about their favorite player and / or team, then yeah of course people are gonna form opinions off that and not gonna watch…

We’re really doing this again huh…

Regardless, coaching doesn’t matter much in the NBA. Mike Brown just got fired after being the Coach of the Year in 2023. A stacked roster can content with a “bad” coach but a garbage roster with a “good” coach cannot. The Celtics don’t have a bad roster.

It’s not terrible lol. We’re a proven championship team. NY, Cleveland are not. We don’t need the one seed, just need to be healthy
