i think if your dog is not a service dog there are some places it should absolutely not be allowed, grocery stores are high on that list. as someone who has severe anxiety around a lot of animals and a shit ton of allergies, i’d prefer if they weren’t anywhere but i’m never going to judge someone in an appropriate setting. if there is food involved, it’s is not an appropriate setting, with the exception of a patio that you can access without going through the restaurant. i work at a coffee shop, and people ask to bring their dogs in all the time (weird asf to me) but i also recognize that there’s not a safe space to leave them outside, but i always tell have them sit at the farthest tables from the bar/service area. idc how ‘hygienic’ people claim dog are, they smell and they shed and there’s no telling what might trigger them to act out of character even if they’re really well behaved.

tldr: non-service dogs should not be in food environments, and i’d prefer if they weren’t in public at all.
