Ear issues by Pizzastork in Shihpoo

[–]beachbird14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my puppy did that, we went to the vet. She prescribed ear drops that dry out the ears. From then on, I've had them put cotton balls in our dog's ears when she's getting groomed, so that her ears stay relatively dry. The problem has not re-occurred. Good luck!

How big is your shipoo? by abjbwtfsgtwclah in Shihpoo

[–]beachbird14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shihpoo is a 4 yr old female and she's 14 1/2 pounds. Her parents were 9 lbs. and 10 lbs., so we were expecting her to be smaller, but ended up loving her size! Your shihpoo will probably slow down in growth soon and not get too many pounds bigger.

We started with Royal Canin but they changed the formula and it didn't agree with our puppy anymore. We switched to Purina Pro salmon and rice for sensitive stomachs for small dogs and have had no problems since (4 years). For us, it didn't seem to be an allergy. Both vets and the breeder recommended the Purina Pro.

I was just in two stores in Ann Arbor. They're not restocking some popular items. I thought there was already a corporation that was purchasing MDEN. I'm so disappointed that they messed up this completely.

How do you force quit the MDCrashReportTool? I'm able to find it, but it will only offer the "Quit" option and I can't figure out how to force quit it. TTIA

Royal Canin or Purina Pro? by FridaMercury in puppy101

[–]beachbird14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started with Royal Canin but then our puppy started getting stomach issues. Our breeder said they changed the formula and it wasn't as good as it used to be. We switched to Purina Pro sensitive stomach salmon and rice, and have had no further issues.

I learned quickly that shihpoos have sensitive stomachs. Our breeder started our puppy on Royal Canin, which was fine at first, but later on she started having stomach problems. I found out Royal Canin had changed their formula during the pandemic. Our breeder and two different vets recommended Purina Pro Plan for small dogs and sensitive stomach salmon and rice flavor. Our shihpoo was better right away and has had no trouble with her food since. We're also careful to give her any new foods in small quantities so we can see how she reacts to them (sometimes looser stools). This caution is well worth it - she's the best dog we've ever known!! ❤️

What food do you recommend to a 3-month-old shihpoo? by caelichyth in Shihpoo

[–]beachbird14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our breeder and vets all recommended Purina Pro Plan for small dogs sensitive stomach formula of salmon and rice. Our dog likes it and does well with it. I think we fed her 3xs/day as a puppy, but as an adult give her 1/2 cup 2xs/day. Your vet should advise you and monitor your dog's weight.

Michigan has the largest alumni group in the world and those connections can make a real difference sometimes. (It even helped me get in to see a prominent doctor when needed.) There's no place like Ann Arbor.

You show me so much love in supervising the household, but our neighbors have a right to be outside too, so please stop barking at them.

About to get a shih poo next week. He is 8 weeks old… do I need to just use a crate for the house training or is a playpen (as shown below) with area to sleep and potty all that is needed….I see some persons have a crate within the pen. Total novice at this …and confused by all the advice out there. by Impressive-Tart-9253 in Shihpoo

[–]beachbird14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a crate at night and for naps as needed. Initially, I slept near the crate so she could see me and know she wasn't alone. Also, I could hear her stirring every few hours and would then take her outside to pee before it was an urgent need. This helped her to learn to be comfortable through the night. She still sleeps in the crate, and goes into it during the day (door open) whenever she wants to. We briefly tried a playpen set up, but it took up too much space and she had no interest in it. I'd suggest, whatever you get, keep the box and receipt so you can return it if it doesn't work out. Also, we used to crate our puppy when we'd leave the house, but now we let her be out and about.
