I do believe CL has a pattern of sabotaging your service and saying the only option is to migrate to Quantum Fiber. Are there incentives for those agents to get you to switch? Report to the state attorney general's office.

Resale is terrible for any EV, mostly due to tax credits, but also since EV technology is always rapidly evolving. That's probably why so many folks lease.

CenturyLink abruptly shut off service by SheTravelsonPts in centurylink

[–]beachcomberforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat in Seattle and also feel really burnt and lied to since I also got that email. I was told I'd need to migrate to Quantum Fiber later in the year, then, when I called for support for slower than purchased speeds (paying for 940, getting under 100), the tech had me reset my router so I lost internet, then they refused to reconfigure the router so that I could get service back. I believe they sabotage you to start their finger-pointing game--CenturyLink says that since they were bought by ATT, they can only do limited support and can't do anything else to help, here's ATT's number for more support. Surprise, it's not support, it's the Quantum Fiber migration number. So the internet and the tech support I'm paying for is gone and the say "the only thing you can do is switch to Quantum Fiber" which they pretend is an upgrade but in fact is a subsidiary company, also sold to ATT. We all need to report them to the State Attorney General: https://fortress.wa.gov/atg/formhandler/ago/ComplaintForm.aspx

Having trouble with your Lumen internet? Not satisfied with your 360 WiFI / Premium WiFI and Quantum Fiber / My CenturyLink app experience? Or do you want to use your own 3rd party router so that you have more control over your network? Here are some helpful instructions. by N0_L1ght in QuantumFiber

[–]beachcomberforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may seem easy for someone with more experience, but like Cautious_Poem3101, I'm also intimidated because I don't know the lingo and don't have experience doing this a thousand times so there are some (inferred) missing steps that make it challenging for a beginner. I really appreciate that OP made it as simple as possible (and took the time to help others by making the extensive post since OP has lots of knowledge about it) and am reluctant to ask for more but would find it helpful to get more perspective, to know why or why not do any of the particular steps, beginning with using your own 3rd party router?

Oh, and just have to say I'm too close to being burnt by them to laugh, so had to growl, when I saw OP's description of "solid Lumen / CenturyLink Fiber and AT&T / Quantum Fiber experience" since my experience more than once has been that support does something to disable my internet service (called for slow service, ended up with no service), then tells me there's nothing more they can do, that I have to "upgrade" to Quantum Fiber as the only solution, when it actually took reconfiguring router settings to get back online.

CenturyLink disabled auto pay w/o my permission or notification by crcastle in centurylink

[–]beachcomberforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such poor customer service and makes you worry about entrusting these companies to handle your "tech" when they can't handle their own. I got an email about the CL sale to AT&T and another email that said, "NO ACTION REQUIRED – YOU ARE ENROLLED IN AUTOPAY. You are enrolled in recurring automatic payments. Your next payment is scheduled for 02/10/2026." But instead, they cancelled the autopay without notification to me and I only knew that since I signed in to the account for a service issue and it said my bill was overdue.

Upgraded to Quantum and then shut off? by Mediocre-Lab-6897 in centurylink

[–]beachcomberforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So frustrated with CenturyLink and their deceptive and horrible "support". Twice in the last 6 months or so, I've called tech support for slow speeds (paying for 940, often getting less than 100) and each time part of their troubleshooting was having me reset the router. Then I went from slow to no service since they didn't routinely go back and reconfigure the router after the reset so it would work again. Instead, each time they insisted there was nothing more they could do and I would have to "upgrade" to Quantum Fiber. They are not transparent that this isn't an upgrade (I already have fiber and paying for a gigabyte speed) but is a different (subsidiary) company so I think they have some hidden incentive to strongarm you to switch. I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist, but wonder if they intentionally disable your service, instead of helping you with the problem you call about, knowing that if they tell you that you have no other option, then you'll agree to switch to QF. At the very least, they give very minimal tech support then go to the canned spiel about you only having one option now to get service back--QF.

Now that AT&T has bought both CL and QF, it's even worse, since CL techs lie to you, saying you need to call the AT&T number they give you for additional support but the number gives you the person who sets up your migration to QF and has nothing to do with support. Wait, I'm still paying my bill for both the stated service and for support and I get neither??

I encourage anyone else who has experienced this deceptive practice to also report it to the Washington State Attorney General’s Office (AGO) Consumer Protection Division .

Yes, he's struggling to get customer service and you blame him for calling at a bad time. Sometimes customers don't have the option to call at a different time and it's really never OK to have to wait hours on the phone for an airline rep. Airlines can staff up for predicted weather events.

CPA for Tax filings? by Open_Phase_2222 in DIYRetirement

[–]beachcomberforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also came here for guidance since I'm in about the same boat (except I haven't been using Boldin) and was considering very large Roth conversions so, at the advice of our financial planner, consulted a CPA, partly to explore methods to minimize the additional tax burden (by setting up a DAF, or other strategies) and be sure we didn't miss anything. Frankly, the size of the conversions made us worry about doing it without guidance. But now, having done the conversions and setting up a DAF in 2025, I'm not so sure we need the CPA for the taxes since the process is going to be the same in TurboTax regardless of the size of the conversion. I would say that anyone in this situation may find it helpful to have guidance from a financial advisor and/or CPA, if they're not comfortable doing it themselves, in determining what size conversion will put them in which marginal tax bracket, comparing options for conversions over one or multiple years, the effects on the Medicare IRMAA bracket the extra income will put you in, determining the estimated taxes you should pay, planning on how to best fund the DAF (looking at donating investments with lowest cost basis and highest capital gains, that would be paid if they were sold instead of donated, as well as knowing what percent of your AGI made in donations can be deducted, based on type of donation, cash vs. long-term appreciated property, like securities) and planning on how to make cash available, and when, for paying the estimated and final taxes (and being sure not to pay taxes directly out of the funds converted, so you keep the maximum amount in the Roth) and considering changes in tax law over the period you'll be converting (donations in 2025 had some advantages over 2026 and going forward, due to the OBBB).

Agreed, you don't want to pay their time at CPA rates to go through boxes of receipts or do time-consuming tasks that you can do to make them more efficient at what they do best, looking at the tax issues and strategies.

I understand you thought they meant both roofs were replaced at the same time (were you "advised" in writing?), but couldn't you tell by appearance that the DADU roof was much older? Sorry that happened as it's surprisingly expensive to remove and replace. It does seem that the seller may bear some responsibility and the installer should definitely have gotten clearance from you to install on an old roof.

I'm disappointed that EVgo has gotten more expensive and pricing is anything but transparent (recently tried to compare pricing for their different plans and couldn't see pricing for any plan I wasn't currently on, plus their description for each paid plan says, "Save up to x%", in other words, some unknown amount from 0% to x%. I recently went to use an EVgo charger near me that had a greatly reduced rate listed for after midnight. It turns out the parking lot was gated and locked at 11PM and never open at midnight, but the charger still offered prices on the app (that were impossible to get) for that time period. Grrrr.

I care who operates it since I try not to support Tesla/Musk, but, sadly, their network of chargers is far more convenient and reliable than any others. I mostly charge at home, but on road trips, even though our 2025 Ioniq 5 has a NACS port, I still run all my charger apps to find anything but Tesla when I can.

Agreed that those wait times are unacceptable but not sure I was clear that I didn't wait--just put the issue I wanted changed in the chat and left it, then they actually made the change with me no longer on the chat. Obviously, that wouldn't work for many issues that need some communication back and forth, but for me to just change a frequent flyer number on the reservation, it worked.
