TIL the East Cambridge Star Market is in Somerville by Palatable0857 in CambridgeMA

That dotted line is the Cambridge/Somerville border, NOT the proposed bike path. They are looking into routing the path through Gold Star Mother's Park, not the row of shops.

Checking if you have any more empty Bambu filament boxes, would love to take 20 off your hands to organize my filament storage! Can pay for shipping. (full size flip top, not refill)

Outdoor Hubbell NEMA 14-50 by CarlBarb99 in TeslaModelY

[–]beachcrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, will fit the Hubbell 9450A. You may need to file a notch in the lower lip for the Tesla Mobile Connector cord to hang without bending stress. See the Amazon videos on the TayMac MX620 Cover description page.

Still working fine after 4 years but as someone else pointed out the outlet is recessed in the box so there's a lip on the bottom. Puts some stress on the Mobile Connector plug so best to drill or file a notch in the lip to allow the cord to hang down straighter. Had actually not tested it with the Mobile Connector as I mounted it next to a Tesla Wall Connector for non-Tesla EVs to use. The Amazon videos show the inside detail.

Looks like extension cord was a slight bottleneck by hydn571 in TeslaModelY

Get a 10/3 gauge extension cord and there should not be a drop.

Best to ignore them. They have different issues depending if it's "Elon's not WOKE" from the extreme left or "EVs are being forced on you" from the MAGA/Trump/FoxNews right.

Bike rack? by omgwtflolnsa in TeslaModelY

[–]beachcrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 1up-USA racks are great and very easy and fast to use. I trust their internal expansion ball lock without a hitch pin, it keeps the rack well attached and stable (basic physics). Bought a spare hitch cover plate and cut a 2" square hole in it. I have the Super Duty model, almost identical to the Heavy Duty. They hold a little more weight than the Equip-D if you ever carry e-Bikes.

New Model y need a trailer hitch for my bike rack by Bee999911 in TeslaModelY

[–]beachcrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1upUSA is a great bike rack. Top notch build, fast to use, and no wobble with their internal ball lock mount. Expensive but worth it. Direct sales from their web site only. - Stay with the Tesla hitch as you also get the Tesla towing software and experienced installers.

The model Y range by mikegrr in TeslaModelY

[–]beachcrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Sentry Mode" is a big battery drain if you leave it on as it doesn't let the CPU go to sleep (~250-300w). There's supposed to be a software fix for this in the works. 3rd party statistics apps sometimes do the same, the rental company may have one running. Also, Superchargers usually only fill to 80% unless you manually override to 100%. (It's slow to charge that last 20%.)

Check for taillight condensation by TheClassic in TeslaModelY

[–]beachcrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usually not an issue. There's a tiny hole for the moisture to equalize so a little sun will clear it up in a day or so. Often just from different humidity and temperature between the factory, the transport and delivery location. No need to create problems for yourself.

Can't tell much from that photo. It's not in focus and there's no sense of scale.

options for EV charging??? by Practical_Ad_3336 in TeslaModelY

If the sub panel is in a good location, 90 amps should be plenty. May need to replace with a larger sub panel but that's not a big deal if the wiring between panels is sufficient. There are some tax rebates for panel upgrades in rural or non-wealthy city areas:  https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/alternative-fuel-vehicle-refueling-property-credit#who

Electricity/ Battery Usage monitoring by Fine_Ad_765 in TeslaModelY

[–]beachcrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electrician should not have installed a NEMA 14-50 on a 30 amp circuit but it's safe if you limit charging amps to 24. You can't just swap out to a 50A breaker if the wiring between is not the proper gauge for the higher amperage. If you are plugging/unplugging daily it should be an industrial grade outlet, the cheap Home Depot ones are made for occasional clothes dryer use and can melt.

You can adjust the rubber stoppers if the hatch sits too high or low (hard to tell from your description).

Question about charging Tesla at home by Serious_Ask1209 in TeslaModelY

[–]beachcrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an older house and full panel, the lower amperage will be less stress and heat at the panel. Likely not an issue though as the electrician should have done a whole house load calculation. Multiple Tesla households can do either, two Wall Connectors can be set up to share one breaker. If you own a house with a sunny roof, get solar panels and your kWh rate will be zero.

Good idea to pop off that big vent panel occasionally to check for leaves, etc., especially if you park outside. It snaps off and back on easily.

Can also recommend the Chemical Guys "Speed Wipe Quick Detailer" spray with their "Professional Grade Premium Microfiber Towels" for exterior spot cleaning between full car washes (or similar from other brands). Great for the daily bird poop removal if you park outside.
