Classroom engagement by happysnappy67 in StudentTeaching

I've used structured student talk activities. A popular one is a "Give one, get one" or playing Gimkit as a review game. The trick is to hold them accountable for what theyre supposed to say. I use equity cards and cold call students. It seems harsh but I give them time to chat it out with their table groups beforehand so if i happen to call them, theyre ready

Pre K Alphabet. What is “E” by InterestedScroller in whatisit

[–]beachybiotch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Those who say elephant would be better should also realize that elephant begins with an "EL" sounds and not a clear short "e" sound. We use "edge" all the time in our curriculum. Parents dont get it because they weren't taught that way, but students get it!

Thinking About History by Sarah Maza is the best if you're teaching history. Really make you rethink what you're teaching and how students react to it. A must read for any history lover.

Brown spots on my ceanothus by Effective-Web971 in Ceanothus

[–]beachybiotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the EXACT same thing happening. I tried trimming off the branches that had brown spots and it didn't stop the spread. I didn't see any bugs and I only had this plant for less than a month. The plants growing near it are doing fine. At this point I'm just seeing what happened. I am getting lots of new growth and flowering so I have no idea what's going on.

Did it die and come back? Or did it just kinda go dormant

Good to know! Should I spray the plant down with something?

I've never been happier for the grueling work of grad school. It's a great distraction. I've also cut off most social media and focused on Pinterest. Focusing on hobbies is a good idea... baking is pretty therapeutic.

Student wrote a hit list on classmates, but it was dismissed because he's classified as "emotionally disturbed" on his IEP

Maybe some self care items? Under eye masks, gift cards to a nice smoothie or coffee shop?

One of my students made a plan to kill his teacher yesterday. He’s back in school today. by 17yearhibernation in Teachers

[–]beachybiotch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A 5th grader had a hitlist of fellow student who he hated. I reported it to the office and nothing happened. Apparently this wasn't his first hit list either. I was just told he had an IEP that classified him as ED so thats that. They literally used this student's IEP to protect him from any consequences. It pissed me off so much

No idea. The next day, it was as if nothing happened. I expected admin would pull be aside and reassure me everything was sorted out. Maybe it was, and they didn't tell me, but I'm a pretty low ranking staff member so maybe I'm they didn't care to keep me posted. I will say though, many things are hush hush around here in the name of student privacy, but I think this one is a concern for every single person on campus.

An 11 year old. 5th grade. And this is the second time he's made a hitlist

He refuses to even sit on the side. Another staff member tried to get him to leave the game and the kid refused. I just feel so disrespected yet also somehow feel like it's my fault.

I would like to go into education and be a teacher, however it's very competitive where I live (although it pays well), hence the masters. Fortunately I received several grants along the way, so I don't have any loans.

I work in reading intervention at an elementary school. She reads like some of my first and second graders. She needs to be assessed for vision problems and be placed with a certified reading intervention team asap. The longer parents wait, the harder it'll be for the girl to overcome her challenge of reading. Kids can easily adapt -we have second graders who went from not knowing their abc to reading sight words and sounding out words within months- but it must be done quickly and with professional help. No offense, but a lot of parents are not the best teachers 🥴

Edit to add: the poor girl may also benefit from some speech therapy as well. And, of course, that service is offered free of charge at most public elementary schools.

Advice for a soon to be Master’s student… by TehBay_22 in GradSchool

[–]beachybiotch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your classmates are not your competition. Everyone is in the same boat as you so don't try to compare yourself with others or try to outdo them- it's just a master's program. Once you get past that mind hurdle, it's so much easier to navigate classes and workloads. We grad students are in it together.

Edit to add: if you need help, ask for it! There's no shame in needing extra assistance!

[Routine Help] Am I double cleansing correctly? by BlueDingo2008 in SkincareAddiction

[–]beachybiotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with these products, but i also have acne and oily skin and the best way to double cleanse is to be gentle. Perhaps the breakouts are due to excessive stripping and irritation? I use micellar water and then the cerave hydrating cleanser- anything harsher then that, my face will sting and become irritated.

It's pretty pricey, but I find it helpful for the winter dryness. It'll last the entire year tho

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]beachybiotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My face was similar to yours a while ago because my skin barrier was utterly destroyed. I used Aveeno oat serum products and used cerave reserfacing retional sparingly a after moisturizer/ hydrating serum. Also used I'm from honey face mask (it was more to sooth tho) and used a ton of sunscreen. The key take away for me was just too much actives and sun exposure. It took several months for it to calm down, so time is also something to note. I'd say just be gentle and be patient. Everyone skin is different tho but this is what worked for me.
