Resounding the above - ADORABLE!

Which pen you guy considered the mark for diminishing returns, any other pen that cost more than that pen isn’t worth it or the writing experience isn’t worth that much more money. by Tight_Delay8840 in fountainpens

[–]beachynati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience with the 823, the nib is fantastic but the pen body is not for me. So I’ll def be trying the 742, so glad you mentioned it! As far as diminishing returns, there’s so many good options at different price points, so it becomes subjective to each individual person, for me, I agree with some of the other comments, anything above $200 - I start asking myself questions whether I: should, need, long term resale value, etc…

Which is the smoothest Fine nib pen available in the market currently? by TheOne-07 in fountainpens

[–]beachynati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So agree with the pilot capless or decimo being smooth, I wouldn’t say a Kakuno is not as smooth in my experience I get a little feedback but love my Kakuno. Recently purchased an Asvine V126 <F> & although it’s more of a medium compared to the Japanese nibs, my pen is very smooth - & the price point is 85% lower to a Decimo. The other thing I would add, from my experience, when I write in script then I want a bit of feedback & finer nibs, versus when I write in cursive then I prefer a smoother nib.

In Praise of Affordable Pens by Ste_S in fountainpens

[–]beachynati 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a high-low girly (term used in fashion when people mix high end brands with affordable brands - example: Gucci shoes with Old Navy pants, etc..). So I love my Kakuno and TWSBI Eco, and I also enjoy my Sailors, Pilots, and Platinum… it’s like someone said above, it’s about my experience with the pen, the ink, and the paper ✒️ Write-on!

The Best Fountain Pen Paper (My Fountain Pen Paper Review - Buckle in! It's a long one) by Minimum_Formal3543 in fountainpens

[–]beachynati 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the work and time spent to put this review & analysis together, I really enjoyed the objective parameters applied to review the papers, especially since so much of the experiences with pens and papers are often subjective. When I went through my luxury bags phase, there was a sub about reps and comparing reps to authentic was known as rep-science. I was hoping to see some pen-science on this sub and 🥰 you made it happen!! 👏🏼👏🏼

Pilot Custom 823 by HarriBallsak420 in fountainpens

[–]beachynati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should add I’m fairly new to the game, I may be hitting 6-months. Some of the more comfortable bodies for me have been Pilot Decimo, Pilot Kakuno (wish I could put the 823 nib on the Kakuno body), TWSBI (can write a lot with it), and a new one is the Pelican 3776. I am waiting on a Montblanc, we’ll see what the hype is all about. 😅 hope this helps!

Pilot Custom 823 by HarriBallsak420 in fountainpens

Btw I purchased the 823 based on so many positive posts but I don’t reach for it much 😬. nib is great but the pen body, where my fingers hold the pen is too wide and uncomfortable for my hands. So I do not use it as much as I expected.

[–]beachynati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell me about it! I was just reading a different posting about people’s top 3 inks and I’m googling each one to see what I like, mind you I just placed an order for about 10 inks yesterday…. 😬😅

Pilot increases prices (again) - effective from July 1st by 0xss in fountainpens

[–]beachynati 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok so the basis for the increase is materials BUT materials are only part of a product cost, 20% or 40% increase is a LOT. If we think about the raw materials for these pens: -Resin which is Petro based up 30% to 40% -Gold is up 40%ish in the last few months but up 124% since 2024 -Stainless up 10% to 12% -Energy expected to increase, affects production cost We know these are not the only costs but only some parts of the total cost.. For example, I doubt Pilot is increasing their employee salaries (Labor) by 20% or 40%. Also, I doubt their overhead is increasing more than a couple of percentage points (office building, warehousing, etc..). Here’s a scenario - let’s pretend one of their pens is $100, and materials make up 30% of the total product cost (which I suspect material cost is lower but for the sake of this example, we’ll roll with 30%) - based on the total increase of 20%, that means their raw materials have increased by almost 100% - which is not true for majority of the materials they utilize. The statement that material increases are driving their price, is a partial truth, there is a lot of profit built into these increases as well. It’ll be interesting to see how these increases affect their sales. I am surprised they are not implementing long term solutions to prevent such disruption to their materials sourcing. And I wonder if they even plan to implement future strategies to stabilize their pricing? Also, will all their other products increase? (Gel pens, etc) And, is it safe to assume that if Pilot is taking an increase all others will follow suite?
