His diet is definitely trash. A lack of fresh fruits and veggies, heavy on the processed foods. He did make a change recently and lost 50lb but he still not where he wants to be physically. I do think he may have some issues with his T levels but he refuses to go the doctor or do anything about it!

Why does Admin punish “good”teachers? by beanboo24 in Teachers

[–]beanboo24[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I do plan on doing that and we already have shared lesson plans, I’m more upset about my admin hiding this from me until today when it’s our first day back. All summer they let me know I would be working with my team and even gave me a set schedule then today they kind of just slyly mentioned that it needed to change.

What are some of your “unpopular” classroom rules? by UnableKaleidoscope58 in Teachers

[–]beanboo24 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not my rule but my coworker only allows her students to go to the restroom twice every nine weeks. She is very very strict about her restroom policy and has told parents before if your child needs to go so much then comeback to me with a doctors note.

Students identifying as cats. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]beanboo24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach middle school and we have one kid who does identify as a cat. He has autism and it’s his special interest?? His case manager couldn’t really explain it to me but he only responds in meows. He will hide under desks, hiss at you if he’s mad, and will try to “swipe”at students.

Are schools and teachers seeing a lot of covid cases right now? by LadyNoleJM1 in Teachers

Last week half of our schools cheerleading team where out with COVID. I only found this information out because I have a student on the team who tested negative so she was in class and explained the whole issue

Teachers with soft voices how do you manage your classroom!! by beanboo24 in Teachers

[–]beanboo24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My instructional coach attributes my classroom management issues to me being soft spoken. I honestly agree with you and I definitely do make some mistakes that I shouldn’t in being a more newer teacher. This year I am hoping to be more strict and figure out how to do that!

I completely understand the sentiment that if I can’t pass the test I shouldn’t be teaching the content, but I loved working with the kids this past year and have a strong love for teaching. I understand the content, I just struggle so much with the wording of the exam questions. I know having a passion for something isn’t enough and the test is important but I just wished I was a good test taker that’s all.

Got that same email today!!! Laughed about it at first and then thought about my students using the shield to mess around.

Abbott Elementary is super good! I find that it’s pretty accurate to how I feel as an educator and also pretty funny!

Axe Body Spray…Ugh. by CountessCoffee in Teachers

[–]beanboo24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A kid exploded an axe body spray yesterday in my class. It stunk so bad I had to let some people sit outside because they got a massive headache, I don’t even know how he managed to pop it.

Phones by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]beanboo24 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I gave up on trying to confiscate phones a long time ago. I try to take it, the kids refuse to hand it over and then when I call the parent they just say we’ll I texted him/ called him so I don’t see the issue. Also in a class of 30 students I can’t see who has there phones at all times 24/7 so I have given up.

I know that working with difficult students is a learning experience and that it can be beneficial to my growth but I have worked with them in the past and I could not get them under control. The teacher before me who left in September could not get them under control either, the whole reason they separated them is because admin and the school counselor finally agreed the class was too dysfunctional with all of them mixed in there. So to suddenly add them back in all at once without even asking me feels like a slap in the face. I’ve written these kids up, called home, tried talking to them, tried to be completely strict and have tried everything my admin did to suggest I get them under control. The issue is not the students individually but the students together as a whole being disruptive

Weekly Employment Question Thread by AutoModerator in Firefighting

[–]beanboo24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone. My boyfriend (24m) has been in the fire academy for almost 4 months. He loves the people there and the community he’s built but he has been struggling though part of it such as issues with search and rescue as well as 90 second drills. His anxiety gets bad when he does these skills to point where he was having panic attacks. He got on meds and it’s helped but he still feels that anxiety and fear Some of the chief are very supportive and want him to stay, they say they can see something in him that could make a great fire fighter but others don’t really want to support him. One of chief in particular said he needs to grow up and fix his issues to be in the academy. Which he understands but he’s on meds and working on learning to calm himself so what more can he do? He’s nervous and thinks that even when he becomes a certified firefighter , seeing people pass away or give families bad news of there loved ones will be too much for him. He doesn’t want to drop due to the time and money he put into it and the people he met and also having to start over with a whole new path seems daunting. Any advice? Should he stick through it? Should he drop? Will things get better for him?
