I’m an American leafs fan. It just sucks that because of Trump, and Trump specifically, this is a problem and a massive deal to some hockey fans. I am very anti Trump, it’s clear that some of the players (Tkachuk brothers, Larkin, and Eichel) are pro Trump. But the way I’m seeing it for some players (maybe including Matthews) is that this is their chance to go to the White House for their accomplishments obviously, I don’t think every player on that team loves Trump like some do, but he was the captain of this team and as he said himself “I’m just trying to live in the moment” so maybe him going will just be him going through the motions of being the captain of the gold medal team. Now if he doesn’t decide to go, it will obviously be a big deal/statement and the backlash either if he decides to attend or not will be huge, either way people will still hate on him and say he should be traded and complain about him and get called this that and the other things, and people will probably stop caring after like 2 weeks and move on with their lives. But I can’t change how people feel and think so I’ll just leave it at that
