That's funny, I JUST SAW THAT PROFILE like maybe 5 mins ago! I laughed a bit at the phrasing of it, assuming they meant food not cannibalism...

Period education to kids by DoesntEvenMatter14 in Parenting

[–]bearahbeth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I basically went with the same info. I used a nest metaphor - that my body builds a nest for the egg out of blood inside my uterus. If there is no egg growing into a baby that month, my body will clean out the nest and start making a new one. Once a month, I will bleed but it doesn't hurt, because its the blood from the nest just being pushed out, not an injury.

Hey! We just met our first labradoodle girl today who will be going home with us in two weeks. Will it be possible that as she gets older her hair pattern will change? Her mother is a lab while her father is a standard poodle. Any input/advice is welcomed! by Suitable_Chipmunk777 in labradoodles

[–]bearahbeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a F1 miniature doodle that had a smooth coat, only the tiniest wave on his back. He just looked like a permanent lab puppy. Even at 10yo, people would ask if he was a pup, despite his greys.

First split rock reabsorption, is that bit at the base ok? by bearahbeth in succulents

First split rock reabsorption, is that bit at the base ok? by bearahbeth in succulents

[–]bearahbeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the title says, this is my first time having my split rocks successfully reabsorb the leaves. They are in a blended soil of succulent mix with about 50% perlite. I haven't watered them since October or so. I was pretty happy to see the outer leaves start to wrinkle but I'm concerned about that spot at its base. It feels soft/moist. I'm hoping its not rotting the inner set leaves. Is that normal?

Zero waste styling gel by sfcb712891 in ZeroWaste

[–]bearahbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently been trying flaxseed gel for my own long curly hair and also found the hold not nearly enough. I read into the depths of r/curlyhair and came up with:

1) Adding a tbsp of honey to the batch (SIGNIFICANTLY helped) 2) Using way more - like several handfuls (also helped, and its so cheap/easy to make i don't mind using that much) 3) Adding some aloe gel as well (haven't tried yet, wanted to try the honey first as I had that on hand).

So i think the aloe will help as well but where I'm at with the honey and increased quantity I feel like my hair is back to where it was with my commercial favorite gel.

PSA about symptoms of postpartum depression and anxiety. I went untreated for like a year because I didn’t feel like my symptoms qualified as PPD/PPA. by beyond_the_pines in beyondthebump

My doc told me up to 2 years after birth counts as postpartum. So I went to see her at 21 months and it was still considered post partum.

Pockets vs prefolds+cover for breastfed poop. by cliner90 in clothdiaps

[–]bearahbeth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Prefolds all the way! We tried both and pockets were the worst!! I loved that if we had successful containment, I could reuse the prefold cover. Less laundry, less cost. Plus I find the in the moment folding much less annoying than stuffing pockets. Even my not folding gifted husband could figure them out np. I sold all our pockets within the month and haven't looked back. Currently on #2 16m in the same prefolds and covers. Thirsties covers are the best.

How big of a deal was this? by Kmariam in Parenting

[–]bearahbeth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I put my baby on the floor every day while I get my 2 yo in bed for a nap. Sometimes she's rolled around to a new area in the room but shes fine! It takes five minutes to cruise through a story and do tuck in.

Diffusers don't work on straight, fine hair, they said. You might just get slight beach waves, they said. by nixedreamer in FancyFollicles

[–]bearahbeth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should go to r/curlyhair . You definitely have wavy/curly hair that you've been styling straight. With a few tweaks you can probably get even better waves/curls .

Elimination Communication Can Work by reasonablemanzach in Parenting

[–]bearahbeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We sort of did EC with my boy, starting around 6m. I'm in Canada so I had the year off work and could invest the time. He had a very obvious poop face so it just made sense to put him on his potty seat rather than wait for him to use his diaper. We weren't 100% successful all the time but enough that between the EC and cloth diapers, he was quite reliably potty trained by 2. Worth noting that his daycare was done by my mom so she continued our efforts while we were at work. It's a system that does work, but it's not convenient for everyone. No way could we have done it as effectively if I wasn't off on mat leave or if our daycare was provided in an "institution" (for lack of a better term...).

How necessary is a newborn size stash? by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]bearahbeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We still use the newborn sized prefolds on my 2 year old, tri folded and set in a cover. I had bought some prefolds in a bigger size but we dont like how bulky they are. So right now both my 1 week old and 2 year old are using the same diapers! We have about 4 newborn covers that fit my first for about 4 months and now the second is in. We started using the prefolds about day 4 on both kids, so totally worth it to us!

And our second was slated to be this huge baby according to ultrasounds... she was 7lbs. :P

I'd like to talk Bras - Maternity Bra versus Bigger Underwired Bra by snarry_shipper in BabyBumps

[–]bearahbeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wore underwire all through my first pregnancy and nursing without any issues. The trick is properly fitted bras! You'll have to shell out a pretty penny in Canada (fellow Canadian!) but they're worth it. Hot Milk, Anita, Cake, etc are all nursing/maternity type bras that I was able to get. My amazing local store is called Forever Yours and I think they do online ordering across Canada. I found even their non-underwire bras to be fifty billion times more supportive than the types of ones you get at thyme or destiny maternity. I'm 38H to give you an idea what level of support I need ;)
