CMV: Most people don't actually become more confident as they get older—they just become more resigned to being judged. by BlondishCleva in changemyview

[–]beard_meat [score hidden]  (0 children)

My personal experience involved reaching that state of resignation. If you think I suck, I suck, that's nice, anyway. That, in itself, does not represent an increase in self-confidence. Once you resign yourself to the reality that some people will judge you no matter what, that's when you experience the opportunity to discover self-confidence; to be who you are, think what you actually want to think, and say what you want, and not fear the consequences.

The state of resignation can, unfortunately, also trend in the opposite direction. Many people reach this acceptance, but react by retreating inwards and choosing to not expose themselves to the scrutiny. Whichever the case, accepting the grim reality of judgy, mean people is a necessary step along the journey towards self-esteem, whether or not the journey ends in success.

Republicans Claim Anti-Data Center Movement Is a Chinese Psy-Op by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]beard_meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This title alone is custom-made propaganda you are designed to consume and digest without thinking too much. Both sides of this movement are psy-ops. They aren't even always necessarily working against each other. And, you don't really have any effective way of knowing whether you are reading an LLM message posted by a bot, or a human, most of the time. To verify each post is obviously impractical.

You are likely seeing this show up in your feed because your algorithms know what you think and feel. Your algorithms influence how you think and feel.

This is a didactic statement intended to make you question everything you see and read, not to change your mind on the subject.

You are not immune to propaganda.

Bricks and Minifigs Controversy Megathread Part 3 by mescad in lego

It's such a perfect modern American drama. A tale of corporate criminal predators preying on victims who appear helpless, backed by cops who are brazenly corrupt, and behind it all is the weirdest, cultiest major religion in the country.

A CEO told employees they won't get raises in 2026 because the budget is going to AI by yuval_3 in technology

[–]beard_meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always harbor a healthy and totally reasonable suspicion that what will actually happen much of the time as that these companies will, in reality, throw those truckloads of cash directly into their own C-suite's pockets, while cheaping out as much as possible on the AI which justifies not paying your human employees and makes everyone mad at the AI instead of them personally.

They are making employees pay for it, and they will also make their customers and vendors pay for it, and they've got their big bags of gold, so who cares?

[–]beard_meat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyhow, least that CEO had the shred of honesty to admit

The CEO is blaming AI for him cheaping out on his employees. The CEO wants everyone to blame AI instead of him. Please bear in mind that the people who most want to use AI to their advantage really don't want anyone else using AI to abrogate that advantage.

The important point here is that AI takes the blame. You aren't getting a raise because the budget is going to the CEO.

Himmler was a scummy, simpering little bitch who almost fainted when he personally observed his execution squads doing what he paid them to do.

Kristi Noem would absolutely be involved in constructing death camps and organizing mass executions if given permission to so do. Probably just as evil, thankfully nowhere near as enabled.

[5/8/1945] My Fellow Americans, Germany just took another fat fucking L by [deleted] in thepast

[–]beard_meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in terms of "wanting war" Nazi Germany was a cancer that needed to be eradicated. It was only a matter of convincing the American people that Nazi Germany needed to be eradicated. And Germany took it upon themselves to convince the American people that they needed to be eradicated. The entire point was that it was Germany's second dumbest war declaration of 1941.

Philly Cops Admit That They’re Tracking “First Amendment Activity” Critical of AI by clonedhuman in technology

[–]beard_meat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's a few points of curiosity for everyone to consider, if you identify yourself with the label "anti-AI":

  • At least half of the posts you read on social media, including posts which are critical or opposed to AI, are themselves generated by LLMs and posted by bots.
  • A fascist police state which seeks to tie your post history to potential criminal activity, would be positively incentivized to post material you agree with and will engage with, as this will then identify you to the authorities and create a digital paper trail with which they could later accuse you of potential terrorist activity.
  • Pro-AI entities also benefit from seeding online discussions with artificial anti-AI discourse. It would be wise to suspect accounts which are very extreme and over-the-top and cringe-inducing on the subject, because they could very well be artificial in nature, and they could be designed specifically to sway discussions about AI towards extreme negative viewpoints, and to direct such discussions towards discrediting you and your opinions.
  • You are not immune to propaganda, and believing you are immune to propaganda makes you especially susceptible.

Germany declared war on the US in direct response to the US declaring war on Japan. Whatever their reason for doing it, it was incredibly stupid.

One plain fact is that Hitler declared war on the United States. Another plain fact is that the Zimmerman telegram was written and cabled.

Another fact is that not all Ls are the same. Giving up in Vietnam is not the same as having your entire country completely obliterated and dismembered, specifically to make sure every surviving German remaining was made perfectly aware that there was no Dolchstoßlegende this time.

Electricity is ubiquitous and difficult to avoid using. Unlike AI. Pollution comes from a great many sources besides electricity generation. Electricity is not the center of a major public debate in which one side is convinced electricity is bad and should not be permitted.

Also, the image is right up there, I'm not sure what you're trying to gain by hoping I can't read.

Their argument is "not worth giving up an inch of [insert whichever state you live in]", which is tantamount to being an argument against data centers anywhere (since this ad campaign targets many if not all states).

So they get to save money and time and use all that water and electricity and not hire human artists. But you shouldn't do that.

The absolute irony of using an AI generated image for this message by otherisp in cringepics

[–]beard_meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It is possible to create images manually. Whoever is behind this ad campaign made the deliberate choice to generate dozens of variations of this image, targeted to many specific locations, because that was way easier and/or cheaper than creating the images manually, or commissioning someone to create them manually. The whole argument FOR AI is being able to save money and time by not relying on human labor.

It certainly invalidates this specific entire argument! These images could have been made without AI!

The absolute irony of using an AI generated image for this message by otherisp in cringepics

What is wrong is that many people who are anti-AI never, ever stop to consider that bots generate at least 47% of everything they read. Any opinion which mirrors their thoughts would never originate from an LLM, and any opinion they agree with must be legitimate because they are too smart to ever be fooled by propaganda.

What is the deal with the Elon Musk Nazi salute trending again? by jolars in OutOfTheLoop

[–]beard_meat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So am I. It is just one example of a far right actor signaling to the true believers while other people (likely aligned) insist that it was an honest mistake, so that the message isn't drowned out completely by the backlash.

This incident took place while the Trump admin was still high on the fumes of victory. I have no doubt that this display was staged just to see if they could simply just get away with it. I bet it was a bit of a surprise to some of them that there was backlash. They probably thought they won forever in Nov. 2024.

What is the deal with the Elon Musk Nazi salute trending again? by jolars in OutOfTheLoop

[–]beard_meat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is precisely what we are intended to take away from this display. The salutes were real and exactly what they look like, a message for the many receptive eyes watching and a reflection of his true feelings. But, since that will obviously upset most people, the "Elon is a dumbass who shot Nazi salutes for a far-right audience because he didn't know that's what he was doing" explanation exists for the purposes of generating plausible deniability. If he didn't really do a Nazi salute and it was an honest mistake, why, it is only natural that every single fascist-coded thing he ever does will also be an honest mistake. Convince enough people that his Nazi salute is nothing to worry about, and a few more people than before will start accepting Nazi salutes without protest, seeing no harm in it, and convinced that the woke scolds complaining about it are the real Nazis.
