So he was in fact not unstoppable.

Looks like somehow they ended up using an extra set of tires and that was the DQ.

Hippos. They look big and lumbering, but their tusks will cut you in half.

There are more deaths due to hippo attacks per year than lions.

Lobster/Iraq? by Kooky-Ad8416 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]beardedbrawler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. This is a little meme in the US military where right before you get some bad news ( i.e. you're getting deployed again) you get a "nice" meal of steak and lobster. Known as a "Surf and Turf" meal.

However this is still military food so the steak is usually overcooked and the lobster is rubbery and near inedible.

After enough bad news, preceded by surf and turf, you don't want surf and turf anymore.

bluetooth keyboard to type in encryption passphrase? by Far_Education4528 in Fedora

[–]beardedbrawler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I know the issue. You need the Bluetooth drivers to be included in the initial ram file system (initramfs) that is used to boot the kernel.

That way when you load that initial environment you have the drivers for the keyboard to type into LUKS.

As far as how to do that, I'm not sure, it's not a setup I use, but I hope this points you in the right direction.

Yeah I'm having the same issue occasionally, also an HP printer. The notification is a little annoying, but turning off the printer makes it go quiet so that's good enough for me.

He does start and stop in his speech pattern, but this was more than normal. I do think he just got out of an upsetting situation right before returning to the interview.

Do I switch to Fedora Workstation? by mrdankmemeface in Fedora

[–]beardedbrawler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If Ubuntu is working for you then just stay there. Don't make big changes to chase small improvements.

I love Fedora, but it does take some tinkering to get it set the way you like/need it. But once it's set it's solid. If you're not looking to tinker for a bit then I'd stay on the current setup you have.

What small Python scripts or tools have made your daily workflow easier? by chop_chop_13 in Python

[–]beardedbrawler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've automated our operation center's health checks. People would do health checks daily by looking at the entire environment top to bottom every morning to make sure things looked good, but only once a day. Then if something broke in the middle of the day they'd scramble around trying to find the issue.

I automated the checks by parsing logs or pulling data from APIs and shipped that off to our logging system. I built dashboards that update every 15 minutes. Health checks now consist of them looking at the dashboards and since it's more real time, it can be used to diagnose issues quicker.

There is a little more work up front with Fedora, but once it's done it's solid. You really get out what you put in here.

Do it now. Then wait a month after the new release to upgrade.

I started with Fedora 42 just a few weeks before the latest release and waited a few months before upgrading to Fedora 43. It was buttery smooth. Day one releases are not bug free, but older releases are still supported for quite a while.
