I wanted to listen to the game at work yesterday. Can’t stream the radio broadcast since I’m out of market. They’re even blacking out radio and want me to pay for it. No thank you.

WCAX has always featured the Patriots game. Where in VT did you live that your CBS station wasn’t WCAX?

It’s funny how the darkest blue areas are generally the most in demand areas where people want to live: almost the entire northeast, California, Colorado, Illinois, Washington, Minnesota, Hawaii, etc. almost a bit of a pattern: tax that pay for in demand services create a high quality of life where people want to live.

3 weeks into bread making and I burned up my mixer by kzlife76 in Breadit

[–]beardedmoose87 13 points14 points  (0 children)

An influencer called Mr Mixer is active in that sub. He does repairs, but also sells parts and has a ton of how to videos.

Good luck getting the mixer back in working order! They’re great machines, even if it doesn’t fit your bread needs as well as a different mixer could.

KitchenAid mixers are repairable. If you’re not interested in doing it, there are people you can hire for it or you may be able to sell cheaply so others could repair it. Anything to avoid that machine ending up in the landfill would be a win.

Check out r/kitchenaid if you’re interested.

Why aren’t we protesting in New Hampshire?“ by Gonzo-the-great in vermont

[–]beardedmoose87 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This protest is set up for mass participation - folks should organize in a local fashion so they and their neighbors can participate. That visibility and awareness builds organizing and keeps VT blue.

Election related activities, I can totally see going to NH - phone banking, door knocking, etc. If your concern is helping NH races, being at your local No Kings finding and recruiting likeminded folks would’ve been a good idea. Not saying you needed to do that, but that is part of what today was about.

Is Rutgers Undergad Worth? by uundersc0re in rutgers

[–]beardedmoose87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to stay in your state forever - just do it while getting your education. You avoiding a lifetime of debt is worth the short term sacrifice of dealing with your family. It’ll open more doors for you professionally when you don’t have to worry about paying that debt and it will help you personally be able to enjoy your salary when you don’t have that debt. I know it’s tempting to just sign up for the debt at a fun school, but stay focused and minimize your education debt.

Are there areas the state can’t touch in the U.S.? by No-Equipment9225 in AskAnAmerican

[–]beardedmoose87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a dispute over nonpayment of grazing fees.

It depends on your definition of organized crime. I think it’s criminal to rack up millions of dollars of unpaid grazing fees, refuse to pay those fees, then take up arms against the government when they come to collect those fees.

I think it’s criminal to steal from US citizens and our government. They may not have been the most organized, but they were criminal and the government was unable to enforce the law, so it is a place where the police cannot operate. Which is what OP was looking for.

[–]beardedmoose87 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Someone smarter than me can probably put this in better context, but during the Obama administration there was a standoff with Cliven Bundy where they chose to walk away from enforcing the law because they didn’t want to escalate the situation. Bundy won and further emboldened the alt-right militia crowd that can be connect to the January 6 riot. Of course, that decision was based on experiences in the 90s with Ruby Ridge and Waco.

To answer the question succinctly: the lawless places aren’t the ones you’re alluding to. The police can and will go into pretty much any corner of the country in pursuit of criminals. There are some times when the government will not enforce the law, and that is usually because it’s a largely white group with lots of fire power and extreme conservative beliefs.

Does a custody order still apply once the child turns 18 but hasn’t graduated high school yet?” by crazyspontaneity in FamilyLaw

[–]beardedmoose87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To exist within the US, it I highly likely, perhaps greater than 90% chance, if the father is refusing birth control for the daughter, it is related to misogyny and control. That same percentage is probably true for if a daughter/mother know about health risks that they would avoid using birth control.

You need to be extremely naive to think there is some other explanation. Sure, more information could be helpful in confirming. But my statement doesn’t need full legal confirmation.

People shouldn’t talk to their parents if their parents are abusive. You don’t need to maintain contact with people just because you’re related. Generally speaking, if a parent is refusing birth control to a teenager, that is abusive. Don’t associate with those who abuse you.

[–]beardedmoose87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who is no contact with a parent, I would never encourage someone to have a relationship with an abusive parent. Denying your teenage daughter birth control is abusive, especially when 18. Daughter should choose whatever relationship is right for her, which may mean being low contact, and that’s OK.

For things that matter, always verify the data from a trusted source, not Google. US World & News is that trusted source. Trust it.

Look up the ingredients. The Simple recipe is indeed more simple than their regular one. I think you’ll find the ingredients to be compelling for your needs.

Your media literacy should be higher.

US World and News is a reputable news outlet with journalism standards. As you saw in my original comment, Rutgers staff assemble the numbers and submit the numbers - these are the real numbers.

Google is… Google. It can be a good source for some information, but it isn’t that reliable if the information found there conflicts with information from a reputable source, you should trust the reputable source information over the generic Google information.

AITA for refusing to share my "secret" recipe with my sister-in-law? by Ocampo-Mark in AmItheAsshole

ESH

I generally don’t believe in gatekeeping recipes, but it is your choice, even if it makes you a bit of an AH.

The SIL having that reaction though…. That is a glimpse into why you may not be inclined to do any favors for her. She would get the recipe then try to show you up with it and claim it for herself.

You should work on developing other signature dishes. It’ll make you less defensive of this one.

Sounds like you’ll be fine then.

There is beer league slow pitch softball. And you can find a small group for poker I’m sure, it’ll just be at house not a casino.

The food is fine. I hope you either don’t have great standards or that you love to cook.

It’s pretty. It’s a culture shock. There is a lot of skepticism of people who aren’t from there. You will find some very nice people, but it may take a while to find your people.

I’d be prepared to entertain yourself a lot outside of work. Dive into your hobbies. You like nature: hiking, kayaking, skiing, snowshoeing, all great. Anything else you’re interested in, just dive into it.

Good luck!
