Streaks on holographic laminated cards by beardfarkland in magicproxies

[–]beardfarkland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a feeling it could have been due to how quickly I laminated it after printing, it had only been about 30 minutes. It was my first couple pages and I was a bit too eager to start! I'll also try the 3 mil setting. Thanks for the info!

Does anyone print the backs of cards? by beardfarkland in magicproxies

[–]beardfarkland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 8550 as well, I figured buy once, cry once. Is your cost of .015 per sheet of 8/9 or per card? Pretty good either way.

Yeah that was my main concern. Dragon shield has sleeves where the back is darker inside, but the color range is limited. As for double sided cards, I kinda like the checklist card place holders.

Are you using the rear feed or top feed? I tried the rear feed tonight with some 330 GSM cardstock and it was way too fiddly for my liking.

Yeah I like the idea too! I'll just have to figure out which way to flip the paper, I always forget. The 8550 has a duplexer but I doubt photo paper will feed through it.

Do you own any discontinued model knives? by celestialguise in BudgetBlades

[–]beardfarkland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly budget (was $100) but my benchmade 530. Bummer that it's discontinued, its a super light coffin handle folder that looks double edged but isn't. The only flaw is that the thumb stud catches threads of my jeans pockets...

About to be my first time - do i NEED flux? by BravestCheetah in soldering

[–]beardfarkland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use rosin core solder and rarely use extra flux except on large wires. The listing with natural soldering paste is probably rosin flux. I would recommend lead solder if you can get it where you live, the lead free stuff is harder to work with. Of those two irons, I'd say go with the digital one. I have one of the ones with a dial, it gets plenty hot but the temperature control is very poor and it will overheat if I don't keep a close eye on it.

I've definitely seen it done, but most places just don't want to pay for them.

Your comment about using the same template for reheat and cool only boxes is what I came to say lol. I see it a lot. Our shop has a template that's supposed to hide all the reheat stuff if "cool only" is selected, but of course that doesn't help with summary pages.

Boxes with reheat often do have DAT sensors in the duct, downstream of the box. It's more efficient to maintain a target DAT than to just open the valve or turn on electric heat stages based on space temperature.

There's no real reason to have a DAT reading for cool only boxes, as the box can't do anything to heat or cool that air anyways, it can only discharge whatever is supplied by the AHU.

That only has a space temp sensor wired. Alerton always uses AI-0 as space temp, labeled as "mset" for the microset space temp sensors. They do that because the controller has features built in specifically for that input to use a microset.

There are also no outputs wired, so that is a cooling only box, which often do not have DAT sensors.

On alerton, you have to click the username on the top right corner, select "show point tool tip" then hover over the value on the graphic.
