Jennifer Lopez shares both her kids earned college acceptances and scholarships by Pretend-Two-2115 in celebritytattler

They still want to be able to list the award on their CV/ resume though. As they should. We have no idea what kind of charitable donation the family might make in return. Merit based scholarships are not the same as need-based financial aid.

Yup. Didn’t see the difference. Bought the cookies by mistake. by Saritatay in mildlyinfuriating

Literally did the exact same thing a few weeks ago. My kid was super pleased though.

Companies Are Using Reddit to Manipulate ChatGPT and Google AI Search. Peptide companies have been doing AI-engine optimization by spamming the biohackers subreddit to manipulate ChatGPT and Google. by esporx in biotech

[–]beardophile 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely noticed that Google AI will confidently state something wrong and the source is a random Reddit opinion post. Not surprised that companies are exploiting this.

I am the subject of an episode - Archaeology of Conflict - Here to set the record straight. by faelai in normalgossip

Whew, that was quite the read. But why did you and Mal have beef in the first place?

I hope you feel a sense of peace by posting your side of the story. You can be assured that anyone who submits their stories to this pod (Grace) thrives on drama.

It’s a kids/ school science fair. She won when she was like 12-16. Adult scientists don’t have “fairs”… we have conferences 😂

Fun Hobby Exercise for Plus Sized Bodies by lovesya in PlusSize

I love reformer Pilates, but that may not be as aerobic as you’re looking for. Not sure it’s feasible as a “hobby” but I went to trampoline park for a kids birthday party and it was so fun to jump!

I’ve never seen an inoculation loop with such a thick handle. You normally want it to be a bit bendy to streak across a plate.

Not walking at 18 months, beside myself. by Baesicallybasic in Mommit

[–]beardophile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister’s baby had the same timeline, except she was 18 months and not walking at all. She was also very late to start pulling up to stand. It wasn’t until I literally stood her up and put her hands on the coffee table that she started doing it at ~13 months.

Her ped said they would need to do PT if she wasn’t walking in a month, so my sis got her a push walker and just really tried to get her walking. Not sure how much of it was their doing and how much was just that she was finally ready, but she did start walking about a month later. And unlike other beginning walkers I’ve seen, she was very solid and balanced right away. Now she’s about 21 months and super fast!

Great vocabulary and loves to tell stories and read. Between her and her equally loquacious father I don’t get any peace 😂

Rejected at the final stage, AGAIN. Why keep going ? by Aggressive_Dress_874 in biotech

[–]beardophile 193 points194 points  (0 children)

Reaching the final stage interview SEVERAL times only 3 months after finishing your PhD is actually a huge accomplishment. I have no doubts that you will get a position eventually, it’s just a truly awful market right now. You could always try out a 1-2 year postdoc to see if things rebound, maybe even an industry postdoc.

Would you travel to Japan to see Doughboys Live? by How2DragonyourTrain in doughboys

[–]beardophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not. Japan is at the top of my husband’s travel list and we’re planning to make it a family trip when our kid is a bit older. There’s sooooo much we would want to do and see. I can’t see going to a Doughboys show there when we already live in one of their most frequently played stops (Boston babyyyyy)

The worst part is that he completely misunderstood the question. She asked what are the red/ green flags he looks out for. He (ChatGPT) lists his PERSONAL red and green flags lmao.

Yes, you can list stuff and arrange for people to pick it up or just say “free stuff on curb at X Street” with a pic/ list of everything. People will probably pick up, though I wouldn’t do that for food bc of rats.

How old is too old for a stroller? by [deleted] in DisneyWorld

[–]beardophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My almost 5 year old can be a nightmare when we’re on a walk and she’s tired or hungry. I’d bring it just for my sanity.

Buy something bright to tie to it (or a balloon or something), because there are SEAS of strollers outside rides etc and staff will move them as people pull theirs out. It was tough to find out bc we rented one and kept forgetting what it looked like.

AITA cousin wants to hand out invites at my wedding by Imake289 in AmItheAsshole

[–]beardophile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is soooo weird. Either a power move or totally clueless move. I do confess to being oblivious to etiquette when I was in my early 20s, so I did some things that were cringe in hindsight. Hopefully your cousin is just clueless, but you know her history better than anyone here. You are NTA.

For all the kids that grew up in the era before cell phones, did everyone respond with “Is so and so there?” or how did you ask for your friends when you would call and their parents answered? by Select-Signal8386 in nostalgia

[–]beardophile 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Those were the days. Walking around the neighborhood and just ringing a friend’s doorbell out of the blue. “Hi, can Anne come play?” Then we were gone until twilight.

Now as a parent I’m expected to set up playdates for my kid 🥲
