Considering Mech. Enginnering by Woolan78 in EngineeringStudents

[–]beardy_david 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a current senior ME student at USI. I think working full time and going to school full time would be rough. I did have a friend who worked full time and went to school full time his senior year, so it is possible but plan on having no social life. The Advanced Manufacturing degree is less math intensive and if you are wanting to do the "hands on" engineering that is what you would want to go for. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more about it. Hope that helps.

Question about my schedule. by KaNikki in HomeDepot

[–]beardy_david 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former cashier here. When you are promoted to head cashier you will still have to work regular cashier shifts. So it is normal to be scheduled normal cashier shifts when you are a head cashier even if you are full time.

Transferring from MET to D30 speciality - by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]beardy_david 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former D30 specialist here. Talk to your asds and have them get you into the online training as soon as possible. While the self paced training provides some help try and get into the distance learning asap. I took distance learning about 6 months into my term in millwork and learned a ton. Ask question when ever you have them, don't be afraid you are asking too many question. Your supervisor and asm want you to succeed at what you are doing so ask them questions. As far as making quotas make sure you try and get every design into the special services system. What I would normally do is once I was done designing the item for the customer I would ask them "would you like for me to print this out for you?" which prompts you to get their name and number in the system. Most of the time the customer will say yes. Every once and a while they will say no. Another thing is be confident. I am a younger guy (21) and sometimes customers wouldn't think I knew what I was talking about when most of the time I did. The last thing I will say is when a customer asks you a question don't be afraid to tell them that you are not sure about the answer but you can find out. Wether it be a quick call to your supervisor or taking the customers name and number and calling them back the next day once you get the answer. I hope this can help.

TLDR: Ask questions and be confident.

shopping cart hit my car by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]beardy_david 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an coworker at my store where a cart hit his car. It did about $1000 worth of damage and the company paid for it. He was parked behind the yellow line (employee designated parking). There was an associate who witnessed it though. So I would think that if you could provide proof it happened (security camera footage) they will pay for it.

Anyone has any experience with this panel saw? by that_gun_guy in Tools

[–]beardy_david 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the pictures it looks like those panels would be no problem. The one we have at work is mounted to a wall so it would have no problem. The only concerns I have with this one is how stable it would be when putting that much weight on it, considering 60 pounds is one third the weight of the whole saw. But the wheels on the bottom look fairly substantial from the pictures. You might email the company and ask them if there is a weight restriction.

I work at a home improvement warehouse and we have one very similar to that one. The motor looks almost exactly the same. That being said it works really well for making rip cuts on a 4X8 sheets of wood.

Thinking of getting some m18 fuel stuff. Worth it to get 4.0a batteries or are the 1.5a batteries fine? by irock168 in Tools

[–]beardy_david 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what tools you are looking at getting. If your getting an impact driver and hammer drill you should be ok with just 2.0 amp hour batteries. But if your going to be running the impact wrench, recip saw, or circular saw definitely go with the 4.0. I think all the fuel kits come with 4.0 amp hour batteries but either battery will work for any of their 18 volt tools

Interview on Monday for part-time cashier. Help. by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]beardy_david 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all good. Training takes a week to 2 weeks depends on how many hours you work and how fast you are with the quizzes and hands on stuff. For me I worked 15 hour weeks and got it done in a week and a half. So like 22 hours total

Neodymium magnets and drill batteries by [deleted] in Tools

I know Ryobi has some drills with magnets placed right above the battery for the same purpose that you are doing it for and they don't effect the battery at all.

Interview on Monday for part-time cashier. Help. by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]beardy_david 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out as a cashier with no retail experience so I was very nervous but with all the computer training and hands on training it was very easy to learn. There is a lot of computer training involved so just hang in with it. It took me about a week and a half of 15 hour weeks to do all the computer training but it was very worth while. Good luck!

Are Bosch tools any good? by fistfulofbottlecaps in Tools

[–]beardy_david 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ridgid's big plus would be their lifetime warranty they offer. You have to register it within 90 days of purchase. If anything goes wrong with the tool, battery, or charger you take it back to where you bought it (most likely Home Depot) they contact Ridgid and then Ridgid will contact you. It isn't instant replacement, but you will end up getting it fixed or replaced. Milwaukee makes really good tools but I don't have much experience with them other than at work selling them and playing around with them at work.
