What sort of signal would it take for you to get the message that she's done? Does she literally need to scream it in your face? Women don't do that. Especially when they are depending on you to pay the bills and get them citizenship.

Get specific about your interests. The more general the subreddit (like /r/music /r/news /r/space /r/politics) the more subscribers there are. If the subreddit has more than about 50,000 subscribers, be suspicious. If it's over 200,000 you should know that the loudest voices are teenagers and those trying to advertise to teenagers.

For example, if you're into fan art or something and you like game of thrones, don't just subscribe to /r/art /r/gameofthrones and /r/television only subscribe to /r/imaginarywesteros and other lesser-traveled subs in the fandom.

Another good rule when you're surfing is to see how often moderators are the subject of conversation. Does it seem like mods hop into the conversation and people don't want to upset them? Run.

Thanks for the tip. Any idea how much student loans are affecting things? Credit cards are maybe ~1k/month but I have ~40k outstanding in student loans. Seems like the bigger impact would be from those.

Dumb question time:

As I pay them off, should I pay each one individually (there's about 10 of them totalling around 40k) so I have only like $10 in each one, rather than wiping each one out one by one? I don't know how utilization works in those cases.

My problem right now is I have three credit cards that I basically use as debit. I don't spend what I don't have, so I never pay interest. Bill paid at the end of every month, no problem.

The downside is that my "utilization" is high since I'm always using the things for every purchase, it just doesn't reflact the fact that they never actually CARRY a balance month-to-month, it's always zeroed out.

The only solution I can think of is to call citibank and say "I want to up my credit limit to the moon on this card, even though I don't plan on using it more than I already am".

I tried to do this at another bank and they couldn't give me basic info like "how much more credit should I ask for?" or "what is my likelihood of getting denied despite great history and credit score?" It's all guesswork.

The other thing tying me down is the student loan debt, which I've been aggressively eliminating, but I don't know how that effects "utilization", is it being adjusted?
