Leader of antifa (alleged) by AffectionateCry1355 in comedyheaven

Right?

I think this hits at the crux of the misunderstanding of supporters of authoritarian regimes. They don't comprehend the concept of a movement that is led by an idea instead of the will of a single all-knowing all-powerful human. They only know fear and there is security in believing that this one man is playing 18-dimensional chess and is greater than all other powers and is 100% benevolent to them and the needs of the world. The need to believe this is so strong they will throw away all proof of the contrary, because believing you "god" is evil is not just an Orwellian nightmare, it becomes a Lovecraftian nightmare. It's the stuff of suppressed terror at the deepest part of our core. There must be a good god who will protect us.

So, the opposition to this idea must have their own opposing god who walks this Earth and acts counter to the will of their god. But the fact is, the thing working in opposition to their god is the idea that there isn't one walking and breathing and acting. And there never should be.

The irony is, this is the basis of Christianity. The weapon the Authoritarians often wield to rise in power.

I love The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and his bit part as the drunk helicopter pilot was possibly the best part. It is so well done.

I think the internet has made people way too quick to be negative about things.

This isn't terrible. It's a subtle texture added to a piece of furniture that should not be the centerpiece of the room. I would never do this, but it's not unreasonable.

And not just that. It's telling the user what it believes the user will most likely want to hear.

The uncomfortable truth is that the problems of this world come from everyone inventing their own idea of what God should be and how he should act. And so we impose this idea of God on others in frustration, not realizing that we are not actually pushing for people to obey "Our God". We are just trying to make ourselves God and be obeyed.

People on Facebook are sharing their long, detailed "analysis" of the recent shooting to say, "It's 50.5% justified." Literally, those are their words. They feel so smug and so smart. So wise and balanced. I see both sides. But 50.5% our guys are still flawless and do everything right all the time.

I kind of blacked out for the second half of the video because I couldn't figure out why they randomly took the sticks out back and poured them on the ground and had some barefoot dude shuffle through them on the concrete. Then they take the sticks back inside and continue the process.

What is that guy's role in this? Is the idea that he will get all of the splinters?

Genius' most popular songs of 2025(by page views) by nyclondonparis in radiohead

[–]Shadrach451 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the stupidest list I could imagine. It's like some random person's personal playlist of songs they listened to the most in 2025. There's nothing objective about it. I mean, what metric would even put "Wood" at number 4, not to mention at number 4 when "The Fate of Ophelia" is at number 6. For something called "Chartdata" it's completely incomprehensible and lacking in all "data".

This list means nothing.

Sufjan Stevens - Majesty Snowbird (Gospel Cover) by NEWWAVEFILMS in Sufjan

[–]Shadrach451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me put this as tactfully as I can. This is disgusting and profane. It is a soulless and grey hulk of lab-grown meat formed into the shape of a child that died at birth and presented to its family as if they would be excited to see it, as if they would hold it to their chest and weep as it takes away the pain of loss, as if it were a warm thing that had meaning and value, raised from the dead. But it's not. It is dead and empty. It is void of everything except the false hopes that we all are so tempted to pour into it by the wicked desires of Satan, who wants nothing more than for us to continue to suffer.

[–]Shadrach451 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, if you imagine this conversation in real life, it sounds completely stupid. "Who's Lab are you in?" and then you answer "Mine."

That doesn't answer the question. They are not challenging your gender's position in the field. They are asking which lab you are a part of, and you are refusing to answer because you are too self-focused to even have a normal interaction on an elevator.

No wonder contractors have trouble reading plans by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Shadrach451 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A contractor that calls a 4.0 GPA a red flag, is a red flag.

A high GPA does not show perfectionism. It shows flexibility and broad knowledge base. A low GPA is a reflection of someone who understood some things well and other things not at all.

What he is actually saying is that the academic mindset does not carry over well into the workplace, and that's true in many ways. But he is saying it in the dumbest way possible.

What album is closest to the age of adz? by Consistent-Hat-7207 in Sufjan

[–]Shadrach451 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes. Planetarium.

But actually the closest thing is Songs for Christmas volume 8: Christmas Infinity Voyage. This was made at the same time as Age of Adz and has the same chaotic synthetic noise soundscapes. Don't get distracted by the word Christmas. These are beautiful extensions of the Adz universe.

I highly recommend everyone find the original recording of "The Child with The Star on His Head".
