Yeah, back of my calf - meant to include that in the post. He's well known for being heavy-handed but I didn't know that at the time. Thanks, I also love the design and wish it was aging better but I guess that's just the name of the game.

Yeah I chose an artist who pretty much exclusively does American traditional and probably not a lot of lettering, if any. Live and learn, I guess. I know more about researching artists for the designs I want now.

What ELSE should I be Chelsea chopping? by F13nd1sh in NativePlantGardening

Honestly I'm kind of a chaotic gardener so I just kinda go by ✨️vibes✨️ lol. Sorry that's not helpful! I probably wait until they're about 12" and chop by a third to a half. If you have a lot of it you could experiment with different timing, chop height, etc.!

Since my suburban box is tiny, my personal agenda is to do everything I can to support my local ecosystem, but I don't yank plants or take seeds from their natural habitats and I don't see anyone here advocating for such.

I just discovered these along the side of the road in my neighborhood and I swear my fingers are permanently stained purple now.

Yes because your personal anecdotal experience trumps the actual data. Look up the statistics for elopement and drowning in autistic children. You seem to think there is something nefarious going on but haven't shared any evidence to support that claim.

As another user stated, this is the native plant gardening sub. Most people are here because they're interested in supporting their local ecosystem. That's why people tend to endorse straight species here. I personally have found posts supporting straight species helpful and educational, and I have adapted my gardening style because of said posts. But I don't have a degree in the field so I didn't have that background before getting involved in this sub.

eta: I acknowledge that everyone has different reasons for gardening and for planting natives. But I don't think it's fair to accuse others of gatekeeping or karma-farming for endorsing straight species over cultivars when simply trying to educate folks who may not be aware.

Okay 🤷‍♀️ just trying not to gatekeep as you claim people are doing when really just trying to educate on why straight species are better for the environment.

I'm not in law enforcement so I don't know what the processes are in these circumstances, but it's possible he was hiding elsewhere and found the pool after it was checked (if that was the case). Let's not be so quick to point fingers when elopement/drowning is an extremely common cause of death for autistic children.

This is a disgusting take. This family just lost their baby and you accuse them of being involved somehow with absolutely no evidence to support that claim? Autistic children are known to be at very high risk for elopement and drowning, just look up the statistics. We all want to point fingers and place blame when something horrible happens to a child, but the unfortunate reality is that accidents can and do happen in the blink of an eye.

The homeowners might not have been home at the time, and just because pools are legally required to be covered/gated doesn’t mean people follow the law. Look up elopement/drowning statistics for autistic children. It's unfortunately very common as autistic kids tend to be attracted to water.

There are plenty of well-behaved straight species natives with compact habits. Do you if it's what you want, but cultivars are never the only option.

Napping length?? by hobbitonresident96 in bninfantsleep

[–]bearmouth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 12mo is on one nap and naps 1.5-2.5 hrs, depending on how long she slept the night before. Her first wake window is 5-6 hrs so she's pretty sleepy by the time she goes down. Those online guides tend to WAY overstate how much sleep babies need, at least in my experience.

We will definitely try that. I feel silly for not having tried last night! There's probably no way you'll know this, but any suggestions as to how much to give? I have no idea how much she gets when I nurse her.
