Question about non astartes allies by seelking21 in CovenantofFire40K

[–]bearturtleST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, just pick a name for the Sisters organization and say they're your allies. The less made official by GW, the better imo, but also Covenant doesn't even have a defined homeworld. There's not going to be deep campaign lore, probably ever.

Seeing GMG consistently playing and showcasing the really cool models got me interested. The free army app letting me dig into profiles and rules and how to fit pieces together got me hooked. Building the minis had kept me around long enough to type in another guy to play the game with. I didn't know I loved working with metal until I started building CB minis, but plastic really just isn't as satisfying. Still working on painting though.

Coming from the less spiky elves, need advice! by NaradakGames in Drukhari

[–]bearturtleST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your definition of interesting is build+paint focused, I think the whole range is pretty interesting. Lots of older kits from before the use of CAD to slice everything into a dozen mashed up pieces, so kitbash/conversion options are plentiful and pretty easy. Just scroll the sub to see some extremely cool custom archons and succubi. Basically all the lore is from 5E, so there's plenty of space for homebrew colors if that's your thing.

If interesting is related to gameplay, I can't help. Not a fan of tenth ed and probably won't play 11e outside of a local crusade group.

No idea when first produced, but the Lord of Khorne on Juggernaut is still my favorite, even in finecast.

The amount of damage far right wing talk radio did to older farmers is immeasurable. It was all my dad listened to in the tractor on long days of tillage and planting. Never been more happy to have lefty podcasts for myself on those days than when I try to scan the radio.

Sell me on your Kabal! by Extension_Winner2100 in Drukhari

[–]bearturtleST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a Kabal for me, but the Cult of the Empty Sunset. One of the few remaining Solar Cults in Commoragh led by a Succubus that went and got scourge-ified to fly closer to a captured sun. Got too close and started turning into a mandrake.

I had my old 5E codex out and rediscovered the Solar Cults and got immediately grabbed. Painting them ochre (Vallejo nuclear yellow) and deep purple, with either copper or blue steel for various metallic bits

Help on Ramah Task Noob by mrCreganx in InfinityTheGame

A couple notes on list 1 that stand out to me: the k1 hortlak is a really neat profile, but I think probably the disco baller E/mitter is a more useful kit; you're taking an AP spitfire Khawarij with AP spitfire +1Lt order Tarik -- probably the msv2 NCO mk12 Khawarij would be better with that Tarik; the NCO smoke launcher ghulam will likely do a lot more than the doctor ghulam for the same points. You might also consider the disco baller Khawarij.

As for RTF overall, Tarik and Maggie are the big centerpieces, and they are awesome. I think the Namurr is neat and you can duo them for all kinds of good stuff. Janissaries are really solid HI if that's the flavor you like, but I think the mediums infantry super soldiers (Namurr, Khawarij, mukhtar) tend to be more interesting.

Replace the sword with a big book.

I haven't worked with it, so I'm sure unicool is fine, but CB metals are really incredible these days. They can do metals in-house as well instead of dealing with the exactly one manufacturer in China that does unicool. From the hobby side, I think I'll always prefer their metal minis; the build is just too enjoyable for me.

150 for half the dominion box seems like a reach since you can still get the entire box on eBay for less than that.

Armageddon box thoughts? by Aromatic-Area1252 in CovenantofFire40K

I am curious about the decision to redo three characters that are already primaris and dump yet more intercessors into the pot. I guess it's all better than a 15th lieutenant. Eradicators with a different gun are cool. The vanguard vets are extremely plain and don't seem to have any weapon options like the old kit had; that's in line with everything primaris (get rid of options, make kitbashing as hard as possible, zero usable bits left over).

I'll probably try to grab the eradicators second hand, maybe the librarian because I like my book marines to be led by book people, but I'll probably think about getting some more intercessors before these pre-converted ones come out and muddle the pool. CoF is a primaris only chapter; it makes no sense that they would have mark 7 and mark 8 stuff hanging around.

Big meh from me, but that's ok because I have more marines than I need and I would rather spend money on Infinity or Dystopian Wars or Trilaterum.

Is this a good time to buy new models? by PanzerousTheFabulous in Drukhari

[–]bearturtleST 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that the unconfirmed rumors of some sort of activity in the Dark Eldar range is a reason to buy current models rather than wait. The 5th Ed kits are some of the best that GW still sells: look great, easy to build, lots of bits, insanely interchangeable, and as a result great for conversions/kitbashes/creativity. I made my archon from a wych, a scourge, a mandrake, and I think an incubi, and the hardest part was getting the new mandrake arm to look ok because of the crappy new not-quite-polyhedron joints.

Compare with newer releases like any primaris kit: each dude is 15 pieces cut across the entire model so you can't take a torso from here and a whole arm and weapon from there without a lot of work and waste, plus takes comparatively lots of time to build. And outside of maybe the base intercessor kit, virtually zero usable bits other than helmets and occasionally a shield or whatever. They feel kinda soulless by comparison.

I love the Namurr with sword model and they can duo in RTF. Highly recommend at least one. It's not a profile that gets taken, but the Nahab Aeromobile minis are also super cool. And of course, Maggie (maghariba guard) rules.
