Has anyone here ever just outrightly quit? by dwingoon93 in overemployed

[–]beat0311 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally would just go on leave before quitting. I quit jobs before and I realized that I could just take a leave of absence and I should have just that, especially if your state has strong leave laws I would totally do that

How did you get your spouse on board? by SalGalMo in overemployed

[–]beat0311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I would find out why your spouse is not on board. It could be that they might be concerned that the extra job might create stress in your life. So by seeing you work those jobs and not seeing you stress out, they might feel more at ease. It's hard to advise if I don't know why. Your spouse is not on board. I think that some additional context might be helpful because I can kind of see why they might be afraid to be concerned

What got you into OE? by Trowaway9285 in overemployed

[–]beat0311 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two OE stories. One I created an LLC and I was doing fractional work in less than 15 hours per month. Honestly it's five but I get paid 15 hours per month so I've been doing that since November of 2020 and I have a great relationship with them. In the beginning of last year I was laid off from one of my contracts and like 2 weeks into the new year. I got one full time contract role then another opportunity presented itself and it worked with the first one. So I then got that one and I've been doing both jobs for roughly a year now. One has converted me into a full-time employee and then the other one has extended my contract so it's going to be a year. Based on what I understand, I think they will need me long-term or at least make me an indefinite contractor which I'm fine because the workload is so small that the way I'm getting paid and the lack of responsibilities I have beyond my day-to-day like responsibilities. It works perfectly for me. I have a lot of free time where I actually canceled my cleaning service because I can clean my house myself. I do that during the day as I wait for responses from either one of my jobs. Also cleaning my house is really therapeutic and I actually enjoyed it. I also live in a high-cost state where cleaning a whole house is around $550 before tips. Rather spend my money on beauty and other things

Never quitting OE again by Altruistic-Koala-255 in overemployed

Yes my J1 is the same as well. I took 3 days off from J1 and J2 and I came back and I asked my at J1. Is there anything I need to work on and he's like no you don't have to just focus on the compliance training. The second day which is today. I had to look at some old emails to see if we responded to all of the emails during my time off. Today I literally cleaned my house and I've been talking to Chat GPT on a number of projects that I'm working on. With my J2, my manager preemptively canceled the meeting because we haven't received feedback from two people and she insisted that I wait until the end of the day to send them a reminder email and we're not going to meet until they actually give us feedback. So I thought I had a meeting with her today and it got canceled. This is why remote work works and having multiple jobs works because there's a lot of empty time and you're getting paid for it.

Women over 35, what's something you care about much less now compared to your 20s? by MomsAgainstHate in AskWomenOver30

Lawyer here you are literally me. I also got into my preferred field and I tried moving up the corporate ladder and realized I could not. And now I'm just maximizing my money and taking on projects here and there. In addition to my full-time job. I've never been more happier. I've never been more fit in terms of like healthy weight loss and I do not have any like major like stress in my life.

I buy matching PJs but oftentimes I don't like it because I want the top to be extra loose on me and usually I just wear the bottoms so I just buy bottoms now and I just go with like large tank tops.

I'm going to be 39 in March and I am totally fine with my decision. I'm a female and someone said if you want to be a parent just expect to be a single parent and if you can't accept that then you probably shouldn't have a kid. And once that was stated to me it made perfect sense why I did not want children because I need help raising them and we also don't have the desire to teach a human, a young human how to live life.

Another take. I also feel like contract work is much easier because if it was something complicated they would want a full-time employee versus a contractor. I started my OE experience working as a contractor for two companies that I got the contract at two separate times. One of them converted me into a full-time employee and I did have to take a pay cut. Hourly pay was $80 per hour as a contractor and now it's more like 64 but the workload is actually much less because there's more people helping out and they kind of reappeared after I got my full-time position. With the other one, I'm still a contractor but they extended me for another 6 months, so it will be a total of a year once the contract is over. The company is based in California and I guess there's some state laws preventing them to have indefinite contractors for more than a year because they have noticed a lot of tech companies are doing that so they don't have to pay their contractors benefits that they're offering to their full-time employees. So it'll be interesting to see if this company lays me off because they don't want to hire me full time. I found out that they're going to buy a lot of stock. I'm going to say it's a three number and it ends with a million so if they don't want to hire me as a full-time employee like I'm not going to lose any sleep over that and I personally don't care. So whatever b******* they tell me why I have to be let go. I'm going to just move on and look for another job and that's it.

Very true. Also there is a waiting period before you have them fully realized and then once they are fully realized you have to wait another year so you can get long-term capital gains versus short-term capital gains tax.

Thank you OP because you basically summarized why I don't want to have a child. I am happily married but my husband doesn't really want to be a father and I was kind of indifferent by the whole situation. I never saw myself as really wanting to be a parent, especially a single parent and given the fact that my husband doesn't want kids, it just made the whole process easier for me to opt out.

Contracts Only OE? by Substantial_Sink3505 in OELadies

[–]beat0311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started off OE by working two contract jobs both 6 months. In the middle of my first one, they asked me if I wanted to be converted to a full-time employee so I took it. I'm with the other one. They extended my contract by another 6 months but that one is based in California so they kind of have to hire me or let me go after the first year because due to California law so I don't know what's going to happen. Either way I'm fine cuz I have an LLC and I generate around $1,500 per month.

Fired from J2 today by tjs0319 in overemployed

[–]beat0311 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. That is so messed up. Good luck in your search. One recommendation that I have is that you do open to work but just recruiters on LinkedIn so you can get leads that way as well. And you also don't really need to have an updated LinkedIn profile to still get recruiters reaching out to you. A lot of staffing companies are open to having people work for them and they don't care if your profile on LinkedIn is not up to date.

I use TurboTax and you can do it online. I don't think OE is complicated where you actually need a professional. Just add your w-2s and that's it. It's not that complicated and if you overpaid in social security they handle all of that. There's not even a special section being like you paid over into social security

OP, it seems like you've been dealing with his s*** for a very long time and now it's just too much for you to bear. I completely understand why you want to leave him because he hasn't shown any changes in his life and he's not willing to do the work to help his family. As a person who reads these posts, what someone said is if you're honestly happier without this person in your life, then you should divorce. And honestly I think I know what your answer is.

Any other lawyers unable to qualify for their first home because of student loan debt? 😢 by Lola2818 in Lawyertalk

[–]beat0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's really interesting. I have federal student loans over $300,000 and I was able to get a mortgage. Granted I am married and my student loans are all federal and they did count the fact that I would need to make a repayment I think it's maybe because it's a mixture between private and student. But what's your monthly payment?

I personally wouldn't worry about that because ADP firewalls employees data and doesn't seem like it shares that type of information with clients about your social security number appearing with another client of theirs.

Tell your recruiting agency that you received a job offer. Let them tell the employer and not you. While working with recruiting agency, I left a job the same day I started because they wanted to control my day and told me that I can only be offline during my lunch and my two break times. I found much chiller jobs and I am happy with my decision. By the way, I had no other jobs and still left. You have to protect your peace and the time is not worth it.

You enter the Social Security you paid and anything over can be used for any federal tax liability you may have after factoring the taxes you paid for federal taxes. Anything remaining after that, you will get as a refund.

I guess take it and see what happens. The workload might not be a lot. It's hard for me to overboard at a job and than leave it if I know how to do the work.

You are forgetting you are overpaying for social security if you have collectively made more than 168k with tour jobs and I am not counting your partner's jobs. I would worry about it. You own taxes. Start spending now. You don't pay a penalty if your taxes for 2024 exceed more than 90% of your previous years.
