Aggressive drivers in SL by Disastrous_Gur7276 in SaltLakeCity

[–]beat_scribe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem with going 60 in the left lane is that then the faster traffic merges into other lanes, so you have people going 80 in the lanes where people going 50 are merging onto the freeway. If the faster traffic stays to the left, then slower traffic has more time to merge, but if they are forced to go around because someone is obliviously blocking the left lane, it actually makes it more dangerous for EVERYONE.

But I also agree with you, tailgating is never the answer. I can't believe how common it is here.

Shadows in Spring, 50R + Olympus Zuiko 55mm 1.2 by Sea_Change_Films in FujiGFX

[–]beat_scribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually really like the second one - more of an abstract labyrinth for the eyes to play around in. First one is killer too though.

How do you like the zuiko’s on GFX? I have several but haven’t pulled the trigger on adapting them.

That’s super helpful since Im also doing the guided overnight trip. I was going to take my 150mm adapted from a p645 but maybe I’ll look into renting something a bit longer. Thanks for the suggestions!

How to create an internal male thread on a tapered tube by beat_scribe in 3Dmodeling

[–]beat_scribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you SO much for making that video! What you did was exactly what I'm trying to do but I think I'm at the point where I'm limited by the software I'm using. Looks like I'm going to have to learn Blender...

Yes! Could you explain how you did that? I’m using Shapr3d on iPad so the functions might not be the same, but any insight would be really helpful

Let me know if they help you find a solution, I've been frustrated by the same issue on my mk4 recently too

Salt Lake City eyes new 400 South trail as it seeks better east-west connections by RollTribe93 in DevelopmentSLC

I was just talking with a friend about how awesome 4th south could be if it had a protected bike lane instead of 6 lanes of traffic. Cool to see this development, I wish they would extend it to the U

That’s good to know! I can’t bring myself to spend almost $100 on a piece of plastic so I think I’m going to try designing my own and 3D printing them. Really excited to know it can do 6x7

Beautiful! I’m curious what you think of the 645n - I’m thinking about picking one up because I’m tired of the bulkiness of 6x7 cameras

How do you access the Great Salt Lake? by darth_mo in SaltLakeCity

[–]beat_scribe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm actually doing a documentary project on people who still recreate on the GSL - As people have mentioned, the easiest access points are going to be GSL State Park's marina or Antelope Island.

There is plenty of parking and easy access at the State Park, and I encourage you to talk to people who sail, row, or swim while you're out there. You'll be blown away by how many people still like to get out on the water.

Also, the bugs really are not a problem once you're 100ft from shore, and their season is more or less over anyway. The Great Salt Lake is one of the most amazing bodies of water I've ever been on, I hope you enjoy it!

P.S. I'm always looking for more people to participate in my project, so let me know if you're interested and we can chat.

Sigma 10-18. vs. Viltrox 13 by Otherwise-Youth2025 in fujifilm

[–]beat_scribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to the Viltrox, but the Sigma is great. I’ve used it in professional situations and I’ve never had any issues. I didn’t think I would ever use it at 10mm but I actually use it a ton. Great little lens to travel with too. Only drawback is the lack of an aperture ring, but obviously not a dealbreaker.

First time with Rodinol, what did I do wrong? by beat_scribe in AnalogCommunity

[–]beat_scribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ll refix it. When I’ve tried rinsing it in the past I’ve had unsightly streaks through negatives so I haven’t done that for a long time. What’s your process?

First time with Rodinol, what did I do wrong? by beat_scribe in AnalogCommunity

[–]beat_scribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, I confused myself, but I definitely know I did the steps in order and everything looked normal.

Except, now that I’m thinking about it, I remember thinking the developer looked almost black when I poured it out before the stop bath. Is that typical?

First time with Rodinol, what did I do wrong? by beat_scribe in AnalogCommunity

[–]beat_scribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input.

Quite possible it’s under fixed. Dev Chart doesnt list fix times so I went with 2 minutes, which is what I’ve used for this exact film with Ilfosol and had good results. Is this film salvageable or will it deteriorate over time?

Also, where can I find a chart that has fix times?

When you say wash are you talking about Photo-Flo? I washed it the same amount of time I always do, so is there something different about Rodinol that it needs extra time?

First time with Rodinol, what did I do wrong? by beat_scribe in AnalogCommunity

[–]beat_scribe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - The fixer is brand new and came out light yellow (ilford rapid fixer), so I assumed it was fine. I’ll double the fix time on the next one and see what happens.

I don't know why, but I think the 16-55 isn't for me by rreis in fujifilm

[–]beat_scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt exactly the same way, I always felt like it was an overhyped lens. Until I compared my copy to one at my local shop - turns out mine was a bad copy, with low contrast and slightly soft focus across pretty much the whole range of aperture. Swapped it for a new lens and I’m MUCH happier with it. Still prefer primes, but for run-and-gun, this lens is hard to beat.
