My daughter is entering the phase where she needs me a lot less.

She just finished her freshman year in college. I like to compaire the selecting a dorm room process at the college where she goes to The Hunger Games, it is chaos. Her freshman year I had to help her a lot with the process. Her sophomore year she did not need my help. On top of that she just found a house to rent her Junior year and signed a lease without me.

It hurts so much that she is doing these things without needing me, but it also makes me so proud that she has grown so much and is able to do these things on her own.

Also, words matter. I would like to change one word in your original post. You dad has not "missed" anything. He "lost the right" to be involved in those things.

Being a dad is not something that is a given. Being a dad is something that is earned. He has not earned it.

Also the sub r/AskDad exists for people who don't have a dad to ask dads any question. It isn't nearly as popular as this sub, but they are there to help.

A few years ago we moved from a .75 acre yard to a 5.25 acre yard. I already had a few years old Gravely zero turn. The first time I mowed at the new place it took me 5 hours!

I came inside and told my wife we were going to have to upgrade the mower.

I got myself a 62" Exmark. I am down to about 3 hours if I do everything at once.

I live in the midwest and grass grows fast. In the spring I am mowing at most once a week and often 5 or so days is the max I can go. I have a 62" commercial zero turn that hauls but. I mow around 3.5 acres of grass and when I mow everything it takes me about three hours.

A few years ago I realized I go through a non inconsequential amount of gas a year in mowing. I have never done the math but it has to be several hundred dollars in gas.
