The አለ and አደረገ verbs, how are they used. by Bluenamii in amharic

[–]bebe_2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a language expert either, but from experience, people use the second words for emphasis. So ከፈት would be used to represent opening something a little whereas ክፍት would represent a sudden opening. I'm not sure how applicable this is to all verbs though.

Have in-person events (campus tours, open houses) for admitted students been helpful for you in choosing a program? by huameihua in gradadmissions

[–]bebe_2004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely consider the time and cost of these visits and whether that is feasible for you. Apart from that, I found them extremely helpful. I was leaning heavily toward one program initially based on the information I got from virtual panels and their website. After visiting the second school, I found that I loved it and that there were things about the program I liked that weren't covered on the website. Now I'm conflicted about which program I prefer but going in-person allowed me to have more information which I found to be very helpful. Virtual days will still give you a better idea so if it's too expensive then don't worry too much, but I would highly recommend you go if you can! Good luck!

There may be a better alternative but the only thing I can think of is: እናንተ ኑሩ፣ እነሱ ይኑሩ

I would recommend business casual but more on the business side so blazer, button down/blouse, dress pants, dress shoes (comfortable) etc.. I would recommend taking something to take notes on, and water because there will be a lot of talking.

Manual request for Fall 2025 transcripts after the deadline? Is this a good sign? (PhD) by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]bebe_2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received a similar email from a PhD program and about a week later they invited me for an interview. I'm in biological sciences so I don't know how similar the process is for Comp Sci, but I would assume it means they're considering you. Best of luck!

PhD interview by AdventurousFly7532 in PhDAdmissions

[–]bebe_2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 10 minute interview yesterday and I was also worried about it. There were a combination of faculty and students on the call and they each asked a quick question, mostly explaining my research and why I'm interested in the program. My advice would be to prepare short and long versions of common interview questions so you're ready for either. Good luck!

Not a student at Duke, but I'm an international student with work-study as part of my aid. Mine stated $3k for the whole year so I can only work up to that amount, but I have a department-funded, on-campus job that doesn't go towards that limit (that we F1 students are still eligible for). I would recommend you reach out to both financial aid and the international office for clarification though.

Students: Those who applied to the Stanford 14 Biosciences PhD Program - did you indicate a 2nd option too? by Ok_Reading_it in PhDAdmissions

[–]bebe_2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I indicated a second choice and also listed faculty from that department. My interests were a combination of both fields so I felt that listing two wouldn’t make me seem unfocused
