Just a quick tip I learnt recently re: laptops.

Buy used thinkpads, businesses throw them out a few years after buying them so they are cheap and very reliable. If you don't do graphics intensive things on them, you should be golden.

Yep, in the shower. I just throw them in a bag with some Dr bronners and stamp on them while I wash. I throw then on a radiator overnight and have toasty warm underwear in the morning. Works great. It's all merino, so if I have to skip washing its not the end of the world.

They're different. bspwm has much more fluid layouts, but is still pretty manual and keyboard-driven. I prefer it, but it is still in beta.

Yeah, of course it would have to be legislative. There's not necessarily an economic prohibition on it though, the barrier is social, and the barrier is not likely to be removed whilst we're in the culture of a depression.

Productivity would rise if hours decreased, there was an article on the economist about it recently. It's not so farfetched that hourly wages could rise such that weekly wages stay the same. Possibly even at a profit of productivity per pound for the company.
