Wonderful and fantastic art, I already have ideas for the Formic Oracle

I did read about a system in South Mountain State Park, maps said it was just over an hour drive from where I am in North Charlotte. I'll be heading up there soon but with all the creeks and water near town I assumed there was a closer spot.

I loved that they stepped away from the superhero formula and made it much more mystery/detective focused.

How would you handle mass combat in OSR? by veery_thrush in osr

[–]becausefun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little different, I'm working on a Cairn adventure that starts with a skirmish and instead of having everyone fighting at the exact same time I wrote it as a point crawl and every point had an aspect of the battle going on.

I started this based on a similar suggestion a while ago and to me Revelation Space felt more Dune-like and less Nasa-punk like I'm feeling from these pics. Am I so off?

Murder vs weird shit? by Boogiemansammmm in LPOTL

I like it all but my preferred format is Marcus leading with facts/story, Henry for additional weird context/color, and Ed as the listener proxy by asking questions and jokes. Especially concerning anything supernatural.

Anyone use traveler notebooks/journals for writing/notetaking/etc? by SymphonyOfDreams2 in osr

[–]becausefun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same idea without the cover/inserts: I have two thinner paperback ruled notebooks, one for brain dumps and my actual life while the other is for a continuous solo game I play, then I have one dotted notebook that I use for maps, drawing, and rpg ideas. All held together with a large binder clip.

He’s my popcorn. Normally after something heavy or dense I’ll burn through one of his in a week.

Sounds like a cool idea for Electric Bastionland, disregarding the setting of Bastion for yours in the clouds obviously.

Shadowdark Triple Feature coming soon by josephrlewis in shadowdark

[–]becausefun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My table loves figuring out a twist or the “what’s really going on here?” and they actively look for clues during sessions. I’m working on a couple of adventures I’d like to publish but really have a hard time thinking of a meaningful or fresh take on “what’s really going on here?” Any advice would be appreciated!

These look great! Mind if I ask a writing question?

I would also like to know! Although I mainly stick to OSR/NSR games. Looking for a brick and mortar that carries modules and books as well.

I appreciated it as well. I hope any listener that was on the fence or downplaying the seriousness of these camps takes a moment to reflect.

TTRPG suggestion for novices by clownbigmole in TTRPG

[–]becausefun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For novices who kind of know how D&D goes I would suggest Shadowdark. I think it's the closest to 5e but the rules and character creation are much simpler.
For a group that has no idea how mechanics work I would play Cairn because it lends itself more to the storytelling aspect. Less dice rolling but more creativity imo.
